Its okay! I know the truth. You guys are barely beating the teams the same 8th graders win over in Houston. Houston Defenders Select and Houston Hoops (8th graders-going to 9th) beat these teams. ::)
Again Dove, U have NO clue what ur talking about! They've never played Houston Defenders Select or Houston Hoops or ANY 14U teams. ONE time they played a 15U team (3T), and they beat them by more than 20. Before U make another ignorant comment regarding the competition, maybe U should contact Terell Henderson and ask him about the teams they r playing. Remember, U have about 2 weeks to move your boys to Nederland. ::)

Hahahahahahahaha!! Are U serious Dove?? Get a clue man. If U truley believe that, then name 'several'-heck, just name ONE- 8th grade teams who can come within 20 points of MC Flight. You know Dove, I use to actually think U knew a little bit about HS basketball. Lately, however, U have been proving me wrong in that department b/c you are just full of IT, and U clearly have nothing of value to add to this thread (or this forum) except hot air... Franchise 3T 15U is not very good. And it's not jealousy. It's great to see the kids putting work to get better. Beat who you should easily handle is fine. It's good competition. Thanks for the updates (s) NHS1990. Looking forward to another exciting season in Big Ned. Hey Dove-It's not too late to move your boys to Nederland. I'm sure they would excel under Coach English and his program. I have a rent house which is move-in ready! ;)
Okay, maybe I didn't make myself very clear. When Franchize 3T were 8th graders (last year), our 7th graders beat them by 20. As 8th graders this year, our team can still beat (3T) them in 15u. It's good you're getting the work in but you're still not playing the top tier summer teams. Keep working!
Breaking News there Dove!! U must be a basketball genius.

I'll update scores. Will be great exposure for them.
What tournament are they playing in?
I believe it's called Invitational 12? Lost by one (again) to Houston Franchize. Then beat Franchize 3T (their 15U team) by 18. Next game at 7:30
My sons 7th grade team beat the same 14u (8th grade)Franchize 3T last year by 20+. The top Franchize teams are/were in the Adidas 64 Tourney on West Coast. I'm not giving yall any slack :P
I am very aware that their Top players were not present today. However, this was not a 14U team. This was their 15U team. Mostly incoming Sophomores. We were up by as many as 26 points at one time. Not a close game at all. Keep in mind that over 1/2 of MC Flight consists of incoming Juniors and Sophomores. Next game should be some better competition.
Thanks for the insight!

Ya, I knew he has previous success, and I'm sure he's a great coach and asset to the team. The fact that he is not a US citizen really threw me off... I don't see their men's basketball team hiring Phil Jackson to be the coach for their National B-ball team. U know what I mean?

It's not like Nederland and HF have any bad blood between them. In fact, I don't know if Nederland has ever played HF in basketball??
-
Can someone please explain why the USA would hire a non-USA citizen to coach the men's USA soccer team? The new coach is named Jurgen Klinsmann (from Deutschland). He's probably a great coach, etc, etc. Just confused about a non-US citizen coaching our National Team??? Is this common in Soccer?

There will be 1 starting QB and he will have the full support of the coaches, team and fans.
Great post. Thats the problem with threads like this. . Its a competition not a controversy.
I didn't say it was a controversy. I think it becomes a controversy IF a coach elects to PLAY two QB's. It USUALLY means that the coach doesn't have faith in either one. Speaking of a competition there's nothing like one- I love to watch two QB's battle it out. I think it only makes both players that much better when there is someone there to push the other. Some kids become complacent when they find out too early that the job is their's to lose.
-
Not a fan of the 2-QB system. I've not seen a lot of success when using this approach. The QB is the leader of the offense. Having 2 players share that role will reduce the effectiveness of leadership- which is essential for an offense to be effective-IMO.
Nederland will have a good team for a few years. Great coach too. Weren't most of the top high school AAU teams in either Orlando or Vegas this past weekend, playing in Nationals, Showcases or getting there for the Super 64?
Ya, but Nederland played in this tourney the week before this past weekend on a Wednesday/Thursday, (July 13th & 14th).

Playing against the best select teams in Texas and beyond will continue making them better. Tons of College scouts and Ex NBA players in attendance. Their future looks bright! Could Silsbee lose Williams and Brooks?

She has played college basketball at LSU and is from Port Arthur. To my knowledge Brooks has never coached girls before.
There are a lot of good coaches who didnt play college basketball. If you understand the game and get along well with students, it shouldnt matter if the team is male or female. If I understand things correctly, Hamshire Fannet just hired a girls coach for the boys team.
There are plenty of instances where a "less than successful" program became a successful one with the right coach. What I am suggesting to you is that Mr. Brooks is a very good coach and can handle a boys or girls job. I have personal knowledge of a situation where a new coach (without prior head coaching experience) took a program from 2-26 to two consecutive district championships and a regional appearance in his first two years. One year after that, the team played in the state final. The school had an outstanding football reputation and was laughed at in basketball. Yeah, at Hamshire-Fannett. The basketball Mecca of the world.
There are plenty of instances where a "less than successful" program became a successful one with the right coach.
Sterling is the guy. Just has to have board approval. One returning starter and a total of 2 lettermen. One of those plays football, so he wont be practicing basketball for some time once football kicks off. It will be a very young, small team. In order for this years team to have any chance at a good record, the staff will have to find a way to motivate kids to work way harder to improve their skills and then learn to play as a team. It wont be easy to do that in Vidor. No community support for basketball. No Little Dribblers to help get the little kids learning fundamentals. Heck, Vidor doesnt even have a rec center or outdoor basketball court any longer. Pretty sad, really.
That is very sad to hear. You think there is someone in Vidor who is passionate about kids and basketball. Implementing a Little Dribblers program is the 1st step to succes, but it will not happen overnight. Nederland began a LD program about 7-8 years ago (I believe?). It wasn't until a few years ago that their program became competitive. Without fundamentals, any team has a steep hill to climb. Sounds like it's gonna be a rough season for the Pirates.
You are correct Dogs 1218. I should have clarified last yrs team will be the best English will ever coach in Nederland. After coach's 8th grader graduates he will be looking for something much bigger than Nederland and a district champion. Keeping it real, I just don't see a state appearance in the next 5 yrs for Ned. Unless we draw some fabulous transfers to go with the group we already have.
Last years team may be the most ATHLETIC team which English will coach, but definitely NOT the best TEAM. I do agree that their maturity and Varsity experience will be their biggest obstacle, but they will be ready by seasons end to make a deep run in the playoffs. There will b inconsistency for the 1st 1/2 of the season, but they will be the best TEAM in the district by seasons end. They may not finish in 1st, but they will be the best team by the end of district. As far as English going on to bigger and better things after his youngest graduates, I believe Ur wrong there. He's invested way too much time to pack up and leave for more money, or a better chance to win a state championship. He's a Nederland guy who bleeds black and gold. Money doesn't motivate him. That's what makes him so special.
