It just sounded like this manager dude has a personal axe to grind with Coach L and has nothing to do with who should be COY.
I don't know what his personal issue is with him. I'll give Coach L respect if he does something more than one season. Not sure if his kids had lots of talent or what. I just know he did NOTHING for the Nederland program when he was there. Hardwood-he did NOT prepare any of these kids to get where they are today. Coach E is the one who coached them during little dribblers, etc and implemented a winning attitude, along with their work ethic and dedication to the program...
I usually agree with you but not on this. Coach Williams did a great job with Jacob, Chris, and Dionte, when they were at Central MS. He did teach them a thing or two about basketball. Finally, there has not been a coach that both my boys played for, that cared more or treated them more fairly than Coach Williams and that includes Coach E. Coach E. should be COY but Coach Williams deserves more respect than he is being given. Steven Pitts Sorry Steven- Maybe I should have been more clear. I never claimed he didn't care or didn't treat them fairly. I don't know him on that level. When I stated he did nothing for the program, I was more referring to winning, the desire to be the best, and the belief that anything is possible. Maybe I was not fair to him in some of my statements, because I only watched his program from a distance while I lived out of the country. All I ever heard from others during that time was that Nederland had plenty of talent, but didn't know how to win. Respectfully.
-
Y'all leave Soulja alone. Let's not go down the gramatically correct road; if we do, we'll never get a point across. Peace.

U can say and believe what U want, I'm not going to change my opinion on his coaching while at Nederland. -
I guess running basketball camp, hosting winter and summer league(when no other school would) and helping get the little dribblers program started through the Nederland Parks and Rec Department doesn't count. He also paid out of his own pocket players camp fee's to be able to go off to summer basketball camp. And let's take it a step further...in your mind every other basketball coach in Nederland's history was a failure if your looking at win's and losses. Lot's of really good coaches have come through Nederland, no question Coach English has accomplished the most.
No, he did NOT get Little Dribblers started. You need to get YOUR facts straight. Coach English did while he was still at Vidor. And, IF he helped pay for a summer camp out of his own pocket, then (I believe) that is against UIL violations. As far as other Nederland basketball coaches go, I don't think they have had many good ones. Lots of losses, not many Ws. Williams had nowhere near the commitment that it takes (while he was in Nederland) to be an elite program-IMO. He may be great for Evadale, but he accomplished nothing while he coached at Nederland. -
There is no question that Coach English has done great things for the NHS basketball program. But Abe, you need to get some facts straight. Coach Williams was never the head coach at Vidor, he was the varsity assistant 17 years ago, when Vidor was playing 5A. As far as his time in Nederland 1995-2006, there was no one who worked as hard as he did. My son had the opportunity to play 4 years for him. No one questions the fact that Coach English has had a tremendous run of success for a program that was never known for basketball, but don't dismiss the effort of another coach that you don't have a clue about.
Oh sorry about that, I thought he coached at Vidor too. I'll remove that from my earlier post. However, I DO know he did not put in the effort to make a difference in Nederland. He had plenty of talent to make the playoffs at least once. He did not encourage the boys like (has shown) can be done. -
Also, in regards to "all 1A's" having to face the same thing, Hull-Daisetta was the only school in Evadale's basketball district that went to the football playoffs, and they lost in first round. Big Sandy, who is in Evadale's basketball district, doesn't even play football.
Gotcha-thanks for the EDU! -
To me, comparing Evadale to Nederland is apples and oranges. Nederland did start practicing basketball on the first day of practice and did not have to delay their start to the season. Evadale could not start basketball practice because every single player for them played football and their football season did not end till December. Evadale did not get to play their first game till the 2nd weekend of December and that was only after 1 day of practice.
Educate me here, but don't most 1a schools (who have a FB program) go through similar scenarios? I'm guessing MOST 1a kids play both sports?? -

He seems to believe that Coach L should get recognition (which I think he did within his district, no?). Although he says that he didn't want to take anything from Coach E, he actually was trying to IMO. He doesn't realize that 3 of his players played football too, and Forney broke his leg at the beginning of FB season and his hand at the end of FB season. -
Manager 1 Did Coach L cut you from 7th grade basketball? Don't you think it’s time for YOU to let go? Now let’s take 12 random students from any 4A high school, suit them up for football and coach them to the third round of playoffs. Next day, suit them up for hoops, run a one hour practice and hit the boards. You grind out a season, unranked by any publication, height and all. The unranked Rebs beat Yorktown, ranked Milano, ranked. I know it’s hard for someone of your caliber to understand what it takes to take a 1A team to state otherwise you would not make such a ridiculous statement. Let’s not overlook the fact that Coach L contributed to the success of Nederland’s run by preparing many of the players from Nederland’s roster that appear on the Gold List in middle school, which you did not make that cut. The Gold List really has no value when they don't include Evadale's player who will be representing all of Southeast Texas in TABC All Star Game. Did we see any Gold List Mangers? I would take Coach E ANY DAY OF THE YEAR (during any year) over Coach L. -
Will Pat Knight make LU basketball relevant again or will LU remain mediocre?
HJ may have lost 8 of 11 to Silsbee, but what has that proved?
After careful analysis and after consulting with several experts in the basketball area, I can truthfully and accurately tell you what it means. It means that in the last 11 games, Silsbee has been the better team 8 times. And I don't want anyone asking for my secret as to how I came to this complicated conclusion.
Genius Nash...simply genius I say!!
If Silsbee ever goes 2A then HJ will be 1A!!!! HJ's numbers are around 600 now.
But are the numbers in HJ dropping like they r in Silsbee? It wasn't too long ago that Silsbee was 4A, now 3A, and falling fast. I see AAW's concern...
I wont know until after the summer ;)
Well, as soon as summer is over, I will be inquiring.
Since the game will be played early in the year, I predict HJ wins in a close one. HJ's experience will be the difference. Nederland will keep it close, but come up a bit short. HJ by 3.
I actually think the younger players will play better and looser with a little less pressure (not expected to win district, not expected to go undefeated in district, etc) and it will be exciting to watch as this new group grows and develops and it becomes "their team".
Very true. Nobody intimidates them, and they have won so much, that they expect it from themselves. Once they reach their mid season stride, they'll be battling for their 3rd straight district title. They KNOW how to win!
-
It's possible-mainly b/c they've won back-to-back district titles. I agree w/Dogs1218 though. A lot of good young talent, but will take time to get to a top 20 ranking. I DO think they will battle for the district title again, but replacing 5 starters is NEVER an easy task.
Not my angle at all. Had we made the inbounds play, those fouls would not have occurred.
I watched that inbounds play about 5 times. He clearly called TO before the Ref made his call. Those refs are done for the tourney.

TABC has adjusted their Final Rankings for class 4A. Nederland is now #12 as they so deserved!
Patrick Moore for Dodd City makes all state as a junior. He was the best player on the #4 team in state in Dodd City that went undefeated in the regular season. I saw him play once and he was pretty legit. Yet he's not good enough to make it this year. Although there is a player on this list whos team didnt even make the playoffs. Can anyone take a wild guess at who the 1A-II region 3 all state coordinator was??
That's ludicrous! I'm convinced the people who make these selections/rankings, do not actually watch any basketball games.
-
Just a note, the all region teams are not based solely on how a player performed in playoffs. It's a total season award. With that said, I personally would have Cunningham on the list and had I had to make a choice between the two, would have him there instead of Smith.
I agree.
-
Anyone surprised Chris Cunningham from Nederland didn't make it? He made game-winning '3' against Huntsville, and scored final 4 pts (at FT line) against Humble. Leading scorer in 2 of 4 playoff games.
