Do they have much coming back?
the freshman guard will be back. got a couple of Jrs coming back but i dont expect much next season from what was told to me. (meaning playoffs yet again but no deep run)
What happened to all of the PA talent that use to dominate SETX year after year after year? (and don't say they transferred to Nederland.) I miss the days of The Lincoln Bumblebees! :-\

But I just don't think Nederland will be wining either... ;)
I'm guessing U didn't think they would win district two years ago or last year either, correct? Something to consider...This Sophomore group has only lost 4 games in 4 years, while winning more than 90 games...not too shabby! I wouldn't count them out until you see them play.

[
color=red]I'm sorry, but I haven't seen one person blame Nederland's loss to Ball on anything other than that Ball was the better team. Can someone
point to any of these alleged posts that claim otherwise. The gripes about the assistant coaches all seemed to claim "Nederland would be even better if...."; Not "Nederland would have beat Ball if....".

Then you obviously did not read the pages of the Final Nederland game where the Assistant Coach was blamed for the loss because he did not tell Coach the Smith had 3 fouls. My posting was meant to say that Coach Kilchrist knows basketball and works hard for the program. I too would like to see coaches that are hired just for basketball. Our Varsity football program has 13 coaches, as many as college teams have. It is outrageous the amount of money and emphasis that is placed on football. But, my point of the post was to say that Coach Kilchrist is a great man, and he does a great job. Also, how do we have a STACKED freshmen team. You have boys that have played basketball for years, and work great together. How does that become a stacked team? You can not win unless you have a Coach that teaches them to respect one another, not to be ball hogs, and how to run the plays, and that is what Coach Kilchrist did. Plus he helped coach Varsity, while teaching and Coaching at the Middle School as well.
With all respect to Kilchrist, That freshman team was the best in area before he started coaching them ;) Not saying he isnt a good coach, but he could have sat in his chair the whole game and told them to play 5-on-5 and man-to-man defense at the start, then not a another word except for subs when they got tired :D They still would win about as many games
Not true at all. Come on man, give credit where it is due! Did U forget the best Freshman player (Weisbrod) was on Varsity. Losing only one game to Ozen w/Ur best player on Varsity means the coach obviously did his job.

Who will be SETX player of the year
Honest Abe replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Isn't this post about 'PLAYER OF THE YEAR'? This is not about the 'Team of theYear' or 'MVP' of a team or district. There may be (as someone said) 20 players from the area who are better than any Evadale player. Doesn't mean that a player from Evadale can't be 'The Player of the Year'. I honestly don't know how 'Player of the Year' is defined. I don't know who deserves it, b/c I don't know what it means. -
Player of the years team had a 30-3 record and a 1st round bye. He averaged a double double. Who else did that?
Kelvin Smith-Nederland -

Coach Neumann hired Coach English, but he doesn't want him to be successful? That makes no sense. And since he's been around, the baseball team has turned into a powerhouse (how long, btw, has he been AD.... I honestly don't know). And the comment about dictatorship, you will always ruffle feathers when you call the shots. You got to come up with something more solid than "he's raised some hackles because of his dictatorship". I'm sure Patton and Eisenhower managed to piss people off.......
Neumann hired English because had to. English was a hometown kid, lived in Nederland, his wife and mother were employed by NISD, and English was the best young coach in the area. English's success at Vidor and Nederland's complete lack of success in basketball was making Neumann look bad. Everyone knew English wanted to come to Nederland and Neumann finally had to hire him. But yes, even though he hired him, Neumann wanted English to fail. Neumann does not want any other Nederland athletic team to outshine his football team. The Nederland Athletic Dept succeeds in spite of Neumann not because of him.
U nailed it!
If you havn't noticed baseball has been making a name for itself since the mid ninety's when they where regular's in the region finals and had state tournament appearances, basketball is starting to because of Coach English who I believe was hired by our current AD. While we may disagree on some of the smaller issues I think our athletic department as a whole is in better shape than most of our district and is in the top tier of the region over all, but nothing is ever perfect and let's be glad Brian English is in charge of our basketball program, I know I am. I also know that our football program was in the toilet when Coach Neumann got here and it is now one of the more respected programs in region 3, as is our AD.
I'm glad he's our coach too! Without him, Nederland would NOT have made the playoffs two years ago, they prob would have finished 3rd/4th last season in district, and prob 3rd this year-IMO. Since he IS the coach, we actually have a chance at district next year too-and that's with 0 returning starters and (most likely) only one senior starting next year. I know Nederland has been successful in baseball, soccer, track as well, but coaches from every sport (boys and girls) have constant issues with our AD. He may be respected in the region (from the outside), but he is a constant thorn in the side for the Nederland faithful. There seems to always be a contraversy, and I always hear people complain about his dictatorship.
-
We'll have a young (but talented) team for sure. Fontenot will probably be the only senior starting next year. English and Weisbrod will start too, leaving two positions up for grabs. IMO-Jameer and Jared are prob the other two who are likely to win the other two spots. Of course it also depends on who grows and develops between now and then-and who WANTS it! My biggest concern for the future is lack of height. Hopefully one of these kids will grow a few inches over the summer.
-
With so many seniors graduating, will Nederland still be the team to beat in district 20-4A for the 3rd year in a row?
-
Is this the official coaches' All-District team?
That was a shot at bulldogbacker for saying our assistant coach was mindless and stareing into space and another one at you abe for saying our AD was insecure and didn't want any other sports at Nederland to do good, I disagree with both statements, however I do agree we didn't play our best and Ball was better.
U can disagree w/me all day, but I'm not the only person who has this opinion. Not many peoplein Nederland are very fond of our AD mostly b/c he does what's best for football, not what's best for the overall athletic program. This has been obvious with just about every sport.
-
The assistant coaches do NOT stare into space, come on now. You are trying to compare them to coach E, and that is just not fair. Coach E is one of very few who dedicates his entire life to the game. Just b/c they don't eat, sleep, drink b-ball 24/7 doesn't mean they don't care. OF COURSE they care, and they know their role on the team. Yes, Pill was a GREAT asset and will be hard to replace. At this point in his life he is more dedicated than the assistant coaches, but he has chose to make Nederland basketball his life too, 24/7. Bottom line is: we did NOT play our best game, and Ball was the better team.
-
I'm not condoning him pushing the Ball player, I'm just acknowledging that I see where the kid would be frustrated and do that. He prob did not mean him harm, just caught up in the embarrassing moment, so he pushed him. Again, NO reason to put him back in the game. By doing that, he disrespected coach English, who does not deserve that.
-
Temple put him back in to spread the floor and help ice the game. It's not as if they stayed in the full court run and jump. Furthermore, you can't blame the kid for wanting to dunk on a breakaway. How about you question the kid who pushed him in the back? I understand and somewhat commend the toughness of not wanting to get dunked on, but in a twenty point game you don't risk injuring someone.
Temple had PLENTY of players to spread the floor and 'ice' the 20 pt lead-Is that really your interpretation?? The Nederland kids were tired of being pushed and slapped without getting calls. There is only so much one can take of that w/o getting frustrated. There was absolutely NO reason for him to be put back in the game except to show off.
I was really amazed last night when the Ball coach put #2 back in the game at the end just to get a slam on a team they already had beat! Thought he should have been resting for the next game and instead took a really hard foul... from that perspective, doesn't surprise me they got out coached tonight...
It was rather class-less of the Ball coach to leave his starters in for so long. Coach English pulled his starters a five minutes before the Ball coach did. It appeared that he just wanted to run up the score, and for that reason, I understand other people wanting them to lose. Just what was he trying to accomplish?
