Abe if you would have throughly read the post, that wasn't a JAB a Nederland by no means, but since you want to stick your Chest out.... I said there is no way they should be within 15pts with the caliber of players @ Central & Ozen. Again, not a knock on Coach English at all. He truly is Amazing, but let's not kid ourselves Abe. Trying to keep the gloves on Buddy. Mighty Bumblebees!!!!
Haha. If you knew me, you would know that I AM a fighter! I didn't see your post as knocking Coach E. I saw it as you don't think that kids in Nederland should be within 15 points of Bmt schools bc they are less talented or gifted. I did not see any supporting evidence in your post (or any from previous posts) which allude to your assessment. You have made many posts stating that the district crown is back in Bmt where it should be, etc. Nobody acknowledged Dogs1218 question the other day with any substance. The basketball talent in Nederland is no better than it was 10, 15, 20 years ago. The reason Bmt schools use to beat Nederland by 20, 30, 40 points easily is bc the kids didn't care enough to reach their potential. Kids in Bmt played bball year round while kids in Nederland only played for 4 months of the year. During the offseason, MANY kids never picked up a basketball more than once a month. That has now changed bc the bball kids in Nederland now play year round. JMHO
2-3 zone?
Because of Central's size, a 2-3 SHOULD work best. But if the guards are able to penetrate it, go to a 1-2-2. However, if the kids don't rotate properly help, and block out, it could be a disaster. English rarely plays zone though. He prefers to play man.

Central killed Ned on the boards. Their inability to shoot well probably led to their early departure in the playoffs.
The information that I was given from a very reliable contact is that Central was severely outcoached in that game... Also, if I'm not mistaken, the team, Georgetown, made it pretty far in last years playoffs. Didn't they make it to the regional simi's?
I think they did make it that far. Georgetown beat Central leaving them wondering how that happened. Then the next wk they beat Ned leaving us wondering how that happened. They were well coached and very disciplined. Played good defense. Georgetown proved you don't have to be the tallest or most athletic to win big games. They were VERY similar I thought to Ned with their players and coach.
They were well coached bc they had 4 assistant coaches! I think that's what made them so good.

Good for Central's playoff run! They should be very good again this year! Ozen should also be very good and balanced with good ball handlers, shooters and deapth on the blocks! It's funny how now-a-days there would be a conversation of whether these schools could beat Nederland for a District Title? They have some good players and a good head Coach but has Central & Ozen kids/coaches fallin' off that much? When I played it was an automatic 20 to 30 point victory because we played hard, smart, did what we were told to do and simply refused to loose! Oh, I get it the rolls have reversed, it's not all about atheleticism because Central & Ozen definetly have that! Seriosly though, if these players mindset and work-ethic change the only conversation for 20-4a District would be who will be the 3rd & 4th playoff teams after Central & Ozen! Jumping doesn't assure rebounds as much as blocking-out!
If Toe-Toe stays, I predict that Central will run the table in district. If not, it's anybody's crown to win. Don't want it give ALL of the credit to Coach English, BUT he did the same thing in Vidor that he has done here in Nederland. Vidor never had a winning record before E arrived, and I don't believe they've had one since he left. Nederland's Bball program use to last 4-5 months. Now it's a 12 month program. The kids are motivated by him to practice/play year round. I don't think the kids are THAT much different/better/more talented than they use to be. They just believe they can win through his guidance, motivation, coaching, and leadership. Another strong class of kids (Sophomore group) will hopefully continue that competitiveness. They have the ability, but I'm not sure if they have the focus or drive, YET! It's too early to tell.
I'm not sure that I really understand your focus and drive comment. The core of that group has played together almost year round for at least the past three to four years. To call them gym rats would be an understatement. Most of them don't even play other sports. Plus this is the same group that routinely played and beat quality JV teams last season as freshmen. Question their experience on varsity all you want, but I think it's misplaced to question their focus and drive. And no, I do not have a kid in the program - I just don't understand your analysis. And I would give all of the credit for the current state of the program to Coach English. The kids can take credit for their individual play, but Brian English is that program. Ned basketball was an afterthought before he arrived. He has cultivated and grown the talent base. If / when he leaves it will likely wither to next to nothing again, just like Vidor did.
I'm aware of their accolades from last season. I'm aware that they have worked hard (up to this point). I've watched plenty of kids who were good ball players during their Freshman/Soph seasons, but they fizzled out. My point being, they must continue to stay focus and work hard throughout their time in HS. They have received a lot of praise in the community AND on this message board (I'm one of the praisers). In order for them to reach their maximum potential, they must stay hungry. They must continue working hard. Some kids have that drive, determination, and focus, but others don't. A lot can happen in the next 3 years. We will only find out when their HS days are behind them. Hope that is more clear. 8)

Here are the facts: HJ beat Ned last year. Ned went 2-0 against WOS. Ned went 2-0 against Silsbee. ;) Back on topic: HJ (as always) will be fine next year. They will definitely make the playoffs, and I don't think anyone would be surprised if they finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. An OLD friend (BD3) once said-it doesn't matter where you finish in district, it's what happens in THE REAL SEASON (playoffs)!
Nederland guys...your world's greatest coach had the ball with 2 seconds left, calls timeout, draws up a play, and manages to lose in regulation? That would NEVER happen to Coach Lee at Central.
You're right PaBees. It's his fault that a bad pass was made, and Jakobi stole the pass, and was falling out of bounds when he threw up a prayer that was answered. Completely the coach's fault. ::)
