We’ve always encouraged our athletes to pursue more than one sport. Sometimes, it’s difficult to do, but our coaches are all great at supporting that and helping our crossover athletes. “We discourage specialization. We want them to do all that they can do. That’s a key ingredient to our success. If our players weren’t competing in so many sports, if they were specialized more, I don’t know that we’d have as much success as we have had.”
Should I put this on the baseball and basketball threads?  Maybe it's not the football people who need to read it.
Haha. Maybe the other head coaches should have been asked this same question. Do you think their perception is the same? I don't need to read their quotes in an article, bc most people already know each (soccer, basketball, and baseball) of their opinions on this matter an it will only cause more tension between the programs.

Beaumont Trail Blazers played both HJ & Kountze very well. Had a chance to win both games. The big guard for HJ is the truth, the kid scores at will. Kountze is a very balanced & athletic Team. We really enjoyed the competition. Good luck to both programs. Mighty Bumblebees
Did Nederland have a team in the tournment?
Ned entered a JV team, and they won all 3 games they played. The team was comprised of mostly Freshmen kids who will be Sophs next year.
Make I make a suggestion?  Let your 2016 class play varsity  ;D
I'll leave that decision to the coach. ;) One will for sure, two or three others have an opportunity if they put in the work and dedication that it takes.

 10.
It would have also been different if a certain BB coach would not have ran off the better athletes. Katy would have been a lock. At least some of you would have been able to sleep better. Even though many thought the last 42 seconds was hilarious. I wouldn't have wished that nightmare on my worst enemy. I won't say Coach got what he deserved, but he did get the team he wanted. We will all remember that game the rest of our lives.  :-[ :)
Are you suggesting 'better athletes' would have led to a victory over Georgetown? ::) Athletic ability (or lack there of) was NOT the difference in the outcome of that game. Please enlighten us with these 'better athletes' who were 'run off'... Who exactly was forced to leave the team? I don't recall that happening to any kids on the team.
Seems that way. GTown defeated Nederland in football playoffs, defeated Beaumont Central in basketball playoffs, and now eliminates PN-G in baseball playoffs.
Georgetown also eliminated Nederland in Basketball too...Still gives me nightmares!

 15.
Downslope?? Wow. Name any team that can beat the number two seed in round one after loosing three starters, one of them being Kobe Bryant and two very important bench players.
I'm not referring to a 7 seed losing to a 2 seed. Nobody expected them to beat the Spurs. My point is the fact that the Lakers struggled all year, and they finished as the 7th seed. They are a mature team with lots of experience, and they were expected to finish much better than a 7 seed. After acquiring D. Howard, many believed they were a 'contender'. Anytime a team has that many injuries, it usually means their team is old. Hard to deny that. They are not a young team who has a lot of upside to their future (like the Rockets). Rockets average age of NBA experience is 1.9 years. The average experience for the Lakers starting five is 12.8 years. When players get older, they are more prone to injury, hence 5 injured players.
 16.
All they did was prolong the inevitable.
Rockets made it at least one game further than the Lakers! ;)
 17. Houston is the likely place he will land. Not sure if we want him though. Such a head case. I agree King, Lakers are on the downslope.
 18. Wasn't able to watch the game last night, but I recorded it and watched it early this morning. Rockets did not give up after being down 15. Very impressive for such a young team. Gotta love the fight and perseverance they demonstrated. I agree King; I don't see them winning the series, but they will definitely make the Thunder earn it. Sometimes I think Harden tries to force too many things, but then his creativity makes those around him better. Can't believe the hold on Parsons from Perkins wasn't called. That's about as cheap and dirty as it gets, IMO. If he will hold someone so intently, what won't he do to get an advantage? I've always liked Perk, but I don't like cheaters. After watching the replay though, I don't think Parsons would have been able to make a play anyway.
 19.
Brandon Jennings said they will beat the Heat in 6 :o
That ain't gonna happen!!
 20. *Nobody executes the 'screen n roll' better than John Stockton and Karl Malone! ??? ??? Doesn't quite sound right, does it? That's why setting a 'pick' is definitely the term commonly used on the ball, hence 'pick n roll'. *Kevin Garnett sets a 'pick' on the block which freed up Ray Allen in the corner. ??? Uh, NO!! KG sets a 'screen' on the block... is the correct term. In some instances, the terms are interchangeable.
 21. Rooting for the Rockets, but OKC too much fire power. Thunder in 6.
 22.

Have to agree with Skip on this one in regards to the complaining about how Yates builds a roster, Silsbee and Kountze have been swapping personnel forever. Yates will continue to be the bully on the block because they rebound, press and shoot the ball fairly decent from the outside and until the Tigers, Hawks and Mustangs become more proficient in areas other than the press Yates will own this neck of the woods for some time to come.....
Agreed! Somebody better stay off the track less and in the gym.  :D
Disagree- no African players in Silsbee , HJ, and Kountze and nobody from New Jersey either
Apples to oranges when comparing Yates to Silsbee/Kountze. Trying to compare these two small towns who swap players back and forth compared to Yates who 'attracts' players from Houston, a city of 4-6M plus other countries is laughable. Same when trying to compare transfers to any other SETX school. Back on topic: How far will Silsbee advance next year? Depends on their matchups in the playoffs.
 23. Only in the NBA! Unfortunately, I agree with you. NBA is all about the ratings, and they have no shame. I realize all professional sports are about the ratings, but the NBA has manipulated games/series in the past more so than other professional sports.
 24. I hope the Rockets beat the Lakers Wednesday. I have never liked the Lakers, but I don't like seeing ANY player ever getting hurt. A reason many people 'hate' teams like The Lakers, Yankees, Cowboys, Tiger Woods, Lebron, Kobe, etc has nothing to do with the actual professionals who play the game, IMO. IMO, ESPN is to blame for hyper exposure. As I turned on Sports Center this morning, the first person discussed was Tiger Woods, then Adam Scott and The Masters. Next story: Lakers. Next story: Yankees. Nederland's Clay Buchholz's one hitter was the next story, then LeBron. The reason I don't watch SC as much is bc their stories are too predictable. There are lots of great athletes who are NOT household names bc of ESPN. Anyone wonder why the NBA's ratings are so low? Maybe bc they plaster The Lakers and Heat on every headline story. It's nauseating to say the least...
