I don't think Ned has a 'problem' just yet. consider this: I mentioned a few days ago that Ned was suppose to beat WB the past 2 seasons, but we didn't. Ned was up and coming while WB was on the decline. They beat us both years by 9-12 points, I think. This year WB seems to have a much better team, and we have a very similar team to last year. We had another bad shooting night, yet took WB to OT. We missed an open layup with 1 min to go which would have put us up by 4. I know that's part of the game, but missing these type of shots is not normal for these kids. They will learn from these mistakes bc English won't allow it to happen all season. He likes his kids to 'figure it out' themselves early in the year, which apparently has worked for his teams. I wouldn't call it a problem at this point, but if others want to panic, that is your prerogative. I also mentioned a few days ago that every team has to find it's identity, and that's why we have preseason and tournaments. While I do agree with most of Husker's analysis, this was our same downfall as last year: 'Soft' players who don't bang, and no true ball handler. The FB kids will change that, and I hope Coach E utilizes them when we play teams who have more than one BIG. Shaw's speed is desperately needed, but I haven't seen him play Bball in a few years. If he can handle the ball with his speed, English will be forced to utilize him. Go Dogs!

[/quote] [/quote]Good assessment. As BD3 has said many times, close HS Bball games are won/lost from the FT line AND easy buckets. Sure the 2-13 from 3 Land is NEVER good, but we had plenty of other opportunities to win this game. On another note, our kids played hard throughout the game, unlike the HJ game last week when we seemed to give up. Keep your heads up Dawgs, we'll be fine.

Notre Dame's FB team was not even ranked in the top 25 in preseason, now they are #1. Lots of Bball to be played between now and March. Central and Ozen will have at least two chances this year to prove they deserve a high ranking. I believe Nederland would be happy not being ranked bc it puts a target on them. Other teams are more inspired to beat a ranked team and usually play harder when they know they are facing a 'ranked team'. The start of this season has me scratching my head: -HJ beat Kountze, who beat Silsbee, who beat Central, who beat HJ. Just shows us that these early games have little meaning other than bragging rights. [/quote]Nederland returns 4 starters from last year as well, plus 5 other Lettermen (3 who are still playing FB). Silsbee is in a complete different discussion, IMO. The current team which Silsbee has on the court is definitely trying to find their identity since so many kids are still playing FB. It is beyond impressive what Silsbee has accomplished with a Varsity/JV team thus far. It's scary to think how scary the Tigers will be once FB season is over.  ;)
