I recall that the Brookshire Royal lineup this year was similar to that, and the Silsbee Tigers took care of them in the playoffs. Isn't it true that the bigger they are, the harder they fall?

There is limited structure with these team's (most of them). I've observed kids who were not very good in a structured offense excel in AAU. I've also witnessed the opposite. There is too much individual play IMO. Most colleges run a structured offense, no? Just bc a kid can 'get to the hole' does not make him a great player, IMO. Not sure why hundreds of recruiters go to these live periods, but you don't hear about them (as much) attending a structured High School game. I think (the real) Dickie V. nailed this one!
Not true Abe :D Go to the EYBL Nike  sponsored league. All these teams run different offenses, but primarily a motion offense. Go watch the top teams....Defenders Select an Under Armour team.....watch their offense. Go watch  Seattle Rotary 15u team. Their offense is a very patient offense. They pass the ball at least 6-10 times unless there is an open shot or layup. The average high school kid could not flourish in top/elite competition. Just a different [s]devil.[/s]..errr monster. Roy Williams ain' t travelling to Beaumont to see not one kid in this area. Too much money spent for travel even if he wanted to see one kid. He can go to Augusta, SC and see 20 kids all in one place, whose on his interest list. Our Dickie V is now learning to sleep with the devil. He's beginning to see why that monster is growing.
BTW-I'm sure Roy Williams would love to come to Beaumont, he just doesn't know it!  ;D On a serious note, I believe AAU is a necessary evil as Walter said last month after attending an event. I just don't think it should be the primary method college coaches find their talent. And I have watched the Defenders, Houston Hoops and many others. They are much more patient, but their is still too much individual play IMO.
I believe you, and that may be true at the elite tourneys, but for the majority of teams, there is no structure. I've attended many of these events, and MOST of them DO NOT have a set offense. Yes, there are some, but not many. I've observed many teams pass the ball 10-12 times, but the offense is very simple. Pass and go through...down screen pop out... The most common offense I've seen (even with the really good teams) is high pick and roll. It's effective, no doubt. Just not what a majority of college programs run.

Just like there are high schools out there running not-so-clean programs.
I'll take Vitale's word (one that comes from a man with far more experience and knowledge of the subject).
Vitale stuck in the 90's and early 2000's. Times have changed. He's listening to the same coaches who along with their schools have helped promote and sustain  the "live periods" which in turn continues to keep the power away from high school coaches. Here is a great idea:  Tell the NCAA and their board of college presidents to stop having the live periods  :o  No "live period" and now guess who the college coaches will start contacting .....hmmmmm?  Now back to Vitale. For every rogue so-called AAU or summer ball program, I can personally give you five teams who run their programs correctly and by the rules. Most of the bad programs stem from the fact that anybody can start a summer team. Usually by a dad who needs to find a way for his son to get some playing time, then tries to package deal his son and and  :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X. Well, thats a whole another topic!!!
There will always be someone, somewhere, who will bend/break the rules. And the examples you mentioned, though true in some cases, are not the rule. Sure SOME HS coaches would get dirty with the 'package deal' you mentioned, but it's an exception, not the norm. I could be naive, that's just what my opinion.

 6. Should be another hard nosed battle to determine the Black and Gold champs of SETX: Dawgs 22 Pirates 20
 7. Kenny Harrison from TJ. Not saying he was THE best, but his height, speed, and big frame made him very difficult to cover.
 8. Michael Ardmore-Central Leeland McElroy-Central Troy Sumrall-Ned Micah Mosley-Ned Ron McGill-PN-G Jamal Charles-PAM
 9. In defense of the Nederland basketball program, we have now won district three straight years now with 4 starters returning. History would suggest that normally, but Nederland basketball is no longer a joke. Having said that, I would not be surprised if the Ned basketball team is not ranked in the preseason top 25.
TVC....... I guess by your scientific theory that means that Nederland Basketball will not be ranked next year? Seeing how they have been terrible for years in basketball and have only recently had success under Coach English, I guess they will be in the same boat as Vidor football! I know you will get on here and say that its not the same thing...blah..blah...blah! The truth about it is guys like you get on here and bash other schools, namely Vidor because it makes you somehow feel better about yourself. You cant stand Vidor getting a little credit, so what do you do?... you bash them. Everybody in the area knows that Vidor has not had the best football tradition, just like Nederland does not have the best basketball tradition, but I bet you anything Coach Mathews and Coach English have heard plenty from guys like you, im just glad they are smart enough to not listen. ;) ;) ;)
11.
It's not the Memorial varsity. Travis said he was trying to get a second team together for Silsbee.
All of Nederland's starters will be in Dallas this weekend.
 12. I think we will get Howard, but not tonight. I think the Rockets will choose players with their picks in order to help their team. I believe the trade will happen shortly after the draft is finalized. Hopefully we keep one of our 1st Round picks, bc Youth is always good...
 13.
Drummond from uconn maybe?
Who knows? I'm just happy that the organization is NOT okay with being average. I think they are finally listening to what the fans want, and that's a playoff team with Championship potential. The Houston market is too big to expect anything less, even though we've had to settle for it for over 15 years now.
 14.
Dalembert got traded with 14th pick to bucks for 12th pick 12 16 & 18th pick
Why would they trade him for a pick? Bc another Post player is coming to town! Or maybe they want to trade those picks for a #1 pick?

I'm looking for the Dove Bros. from Ozen to do some special things, but Ozen will miss Trey Green's versitility.  I'm looking for Central's young talent to mature greatly from those 3 starting freshmen last year.  Wilridge, the 6'5" post will be a force. Central will miss K. Smith's scoring, but we'll find a way.  I see Ozen and Central fighting for the district title.
Are those the only two team's you see fighting for the district title? I think a team just South of Beaumont (who has won/shared the previous 3 District Titles) may have something to say about that!  8) Returning 4 Starters, including two first-teamers and one 2nd-team All-District selections, Nederland will definitely be in the hunt!  ;)
But they lose the big 6'6" rebounder.  I admit, they do return Wiesbrod, Young English, and the defensive stoper (forgot his name).I guess it that I'm not sure nederland will have good size.
Yes. We did Lose the 6'5" Lubera kid to graduation. He will be missed. However, returning 4 starters and 9 Lettermen from a 28-7 'Co-District' Champs, I suspect their expectations are very high this season. Jamiere Rodgers is the defender in which you speak. Jared Lormier is the swing man who made 2nd team this past season. Though only 6'2", he high jumps over 6'10"! Additionally, 2 FB players who lettered last year are both about 6'4" and are big bodies. They will all make up for Lubera's absence in the rebounding department.

I predict another 30 win season with less than 5 loses, but Yates plays teams all over the country like Findley Prep. 3A will be like JV games to them.
As well as 4-A which they dominated too.
Hey dove do me a huge favor man. I kinda forgot who was the 4A boy state champions. Can you please remind me?
Kimball won by a few points. Surely you are not comparing the 3-A teams to Kimball?  ::)
No comparison at all. Just asking a simple question.  8) And just to put some more of my "two cents" in dominating the 4A ranks would mean they would be the best. 2 place = 1st place loser.  8)
Has Vidor won state or even BEEN to state in ANY sport? (serious question.....kinda.... ;))
Yes we have been to state. Next question.
In what? Marbles??  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D....Seriously...when and in what sport, because I don't think that they have....ever.
football i think and i would have to look up the date to find out when... and i'm too tired and inebriated to do so now lol.
Football? Uhhh, NO SIR!! The ONLY teams in this area that have ever been to the state game in football is West Orange Stark, Westbrook, Kirbyville, Newton, Jasper, and PA Jefferson...Vidor? NO SIR! 8)
Uh, DV, I think you need to stick to what you know and that's basketball. Those teams you listed are not the ONLY teams from this area that have played for or won a state championship in football. PNG, Nederland, Bridge City, Hull-Daisetta, High Island, Beaumont French, Beaumont Hebert, Dayton and Beaumont Kelly have all played in the state title game, with some of those winning.
OK well AAW you are much older than me!!  8) ;D....some of those schools I forgot even existed! Nederland never won state in football have they? I remember PNG's run with Dustin Long at QB...I missed them...Hull Daisetta, High Island? had no idea....Learned something tonight! 8)
He was probably referring to 1977 for PNG when they lost in the state finals. They also won state in 1953, lost in 54, then won in '55. Nederland lost the state title game in 1956, then won it in 1957.
Rodeo is not a uil sport so the uil rules do not apply to them. It's the same thing as an AG student selling thier animal or an art student winning prize money for thier work.
You are absolutely correct. And the AG example was right on time ;) Make you wonder why some things are the way they are  ;)
Seriously BD? You do know that the school district does NOT supply/purchase the animals, right? The kids (parents) purchase the animals, buy food, medicine, provide land, etc while they grow. Then they present the animals. Some animals are purchased in which the top animals make a small profit. Most, however don't get purchased, and most kids barely break even when their animal is purchased. It's a way for these kids understand the trade in which they plan to make a career. It shows them that just bc you try does not mean you will make a profit. Only the best are recognized and awarded. These animals then produce more animals for us to consume.
 21.
Guys!  Are you kidding me?  Back home, the school who recruited the best ran the table but it never guaranteed a championship.  Despite all of the recruiting that Yates supposedly did, THEY DID NOT WIN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP this year...The other team that recruited won the state championship (LOL)...'Quite Frankly' real ball players that do not shy away from competition, want to be on teams that Win.  There is a simple recruiting philosophy for all of this rhetoric that the University of Missouri alum believe:  Just Win and They Will Come.  Successful programs (i.e. Katy Tigers football), will have families that move in from out of state just to be a part of the winning tradition.  The days of neighborhood talent winning big in the upper classification levels (4A-5A) are over.  Most teams that win a championship will have a transfer, a move-in, or have their AAU team all enroll at the same school.  Transfers usually happen at the basketball tradition schools because ball players/parents want to be a part of winning programs.  The other transfer scenario is having a ball player who doesn't play at one school and wants to move to another school where he can get some playing time.
Well, then maybe we should allow HS recruiting, and give them a HS scholarship to attend the HS who recruits them the most and whichever program they feel can win. Oh wait, that sounds like college. Since that's what college is for, then we should allow College kids to receive a salary and sign contracts with agents for 4 years with signing bonuses (for the elite players) while they play for a University. Since that's what professional athletes do, then....  :-\

You want us to believe that he left an inferior team (Central) so he could get more PT at a superior school?? Hmmm??
SUPERIOR? Man you sound crazy! :o...I am not going to discuss in detail or call out kids by name, but if you are trying to convince me that ANY kid would leave a Beaumont school and play for HJ just for the sake of "academics" you can stop right now.
Didn't HJ beat Central last year? You claim that he transferred to HJ bc he was not getting enough PT, right? So he goes to a school with a better basketball team? How does that make sense? 25. HOWEVER they were made to sit (play JV) due to the residency establishment rule. They did that. Its over. End of discussion. Kids are eligible to play varsity next season. No questions asked. Question: Has ANY kid moved to HJ for athletic purposes in the last FIVE years? Yes, I already know the answer to that one. Unless you want to continue to say that kids come for the scenery and academics only.... ::)..Yes unhappy about playing JV ball and moving means that he moved strictly for athletic purposes.
Come on DV, stop diverting and answer the question! Wosgrad's question wasn't towards Nash about HJ. It was directed towards you regarding Yates. Anyway, Funny how you assume ONE transfer to HJ was for athletic purposes, yet you defend all of the transfers to Yates?  ???
