If I understand u correctly, even of Ozen was dropped from 1st place to 2nd place in that relay, would it have been enough points to propel Nederland into 1st place? If my memory is still decent, relays are worth more points than individual events. 20 pts for 1st, right? Not sure of what the next 'place' earns? 16? 15pts?
Yep...and from what I here they have a pretty decent basketball program over there too... ;)
Are they really going to do away with the 3-a tourney and award the title by default to Yates in perpetuity? 3.
pretty strong allegation there abe calling a coach a cheater and he needs to be fired.
Ur right. I was a tad upset when I found out this news. I withdraw my statement regarding him being fired. Fact remains that he did cheat by allowing a runner to participate illegally. All track coaches know the rules, and they should be held accountable for their actions. They are role models and leaders for these young kids who are easily influenced. Showing them its ok to cheat shows that they don't have to play by the rules. Every sport I played while growing up taught me life lessons which helped me through life. Leading these kids to cheat so they can get ahead is not what our young kids need.
 4.
I would like to apologize to Honest Abe for what I said about him in a previous post. I misunderstood what he was trying to say, and said something that I should not have said. Being he is not the man that I thought he was, I respect him enough to hope my apology is accepted.
No problem. Good luck to Ur nephew and the HJ basketball program!
 5.
Thanks for the information Honest Abe of the tournament results but 'Quite Frankly' my friends, if you win at the park or at the YMCA by 1 point or you win by 50 points, a win is a win.  However, these are ball games played outside of the regular season...none of these games will be put in the record books.
I agree. Don't get too caught up in results from Spring Tournaments or Summer Leagues. These games do not have coaching involved, and these kids are looking to improve their skills/game. After losing Seniors, it's interesting to see who will step up and lead their respective teams.
And you consider this exciting or big news?  No doubt you are making this assumption based upon Ozen winning without the presence of the little dove?  Are you sure that HJ had most of its people there?
Don't think anyone had ALL of their team play. Ned played with only 7, HJ had only 6, and Ozen played w/o 'Little Dove'. Nobody should get too excited or somber due to this tournament. This is a time for these kids to grow, and that's about it.
 7.
Nash, and with all the rumors Blue Dove claims are going on, and the absense of many HJ players ( Ozen clearly had more than 6 players there, including Little Dove), Ozen only won by 2 points. Wow! Amazing! ::)
Not sure where u get your information. Were you at the tourney? This is about the 4th comment you have made (regarding this tourney) in which you were wrong. Are u just making things up or do you really not know the facts?  ???
 8.
So what were the final results of the tournament this weekend? Did HJ play Ozen?  If so, who won?  Which ball players played well?
In group 'I': HJ beat Ned in sudden death triple OT HJ beat Friendswood Nederland beat Friendswood Group II: Ozen beat Silsbee Ozen beat PAM PAM beat Silsbee -Ozen beat HJ in OT in one 'Final' -Nederland defeated PAM in their 'Finally' Friendswood beat Silsbee Not sure of games played in the other division.

Don't know if they even won one game (unless they beat Friendswood)...
Didn't see Chris Elam . Maybe thats why.
I thought he played earlier, but maybe not since he was the recipient of an award last night. However, the other nominees and winners who attended the awards ceremony played in the tourney. Who knows??  :-\

 11. There is no way the Ozen coach did not know this rule. Nobody wants to win by default, but rules are rules. Had Nederland played by the same rules, Coach Dial would have entered their long distance runners in all 3 events (limit is 2), and Nederland would have won the District Title. The Ozen coach should be reprimanded and fired for cheating.  >:( >:(
 12.
usually all complaints must be taken care of within 30 minutes of the end of each race.  Its been 4 days i doubt anything will change.
I believe it was discovered the next day (but I could be wrong) after the results were posted. An Ozen participant who faulted during the start of his race was entered in an additional relay, which is clearly illegal, since he already was entered (and participated) in 2 other relay races. Additionally, another Ozen participant raced in 3 of the distance races, when 2 is the limit. If Nederland was able to have a participant in all 3 distance races, the Ned participant who won the 800 and mile would have also won the 2 mile. Either way you look at, Ozen participated illegally. Every coach knows the rules, so it makes one wonder why a coach would knowingly attempt to cheat. I don't know the BY-laws of the district, but I'm sure it will be figured out.
 13. [Hidden Content] Congratulations to the winners and to those nominated and recognized.
 14. Just heard today that Nederland may be the District Champs bc Ozen had a runner in too many events. Anyone else hear this?
 15.
I better stay mum for right now. COACH English let me in the tournament for $5.00.  :o
How does Ozen look?

 17. Strong list. Congrats to these young men on this post-season recognition.

I think the Ned players aren't well conditioned.
LCM & Lumberton same type of team...suprised the score was that bad...They are both in great shape...LMAO
I'm glad you amuse yourself so easily.  Don't LO too much, I'd hate to see you disappear completely as I find your posts so entertaining. Actually, I thought you were a much more informed baseball fan than I give you credit for but apparently I was wrong. So, a little reminder. The only thing LCM and Lumberton have much in common as far a baseball goes is that the names of both schools start with the letter "L" and that their enrollment makes them two of the smaller, if not the smallest, schools in the district. Beyond that, LCM has been to the playoffs for 9 straight years and 15 of the last 16 years.  LCM has been district champs 8-10 times (others may have the more definitive count) to which Nederland has just recently caught up (and maybe have +1 on us) thanks to a three year run (congratulations to those players and the coaches).  I'm not sure that Lumberton has quite the same history but feel free to correct me with a witty and insightful comment.
Knowing 'Basebow' for a while now, I can guarantee u that he is a very humorous guy who enjoys a good time and a good laugh. He not a serious guy, so if U try to understand his humor, U will appreciate his comments  ;D He likes to poke fun, and he can take it when others joke with him. His son was a great FB and Baseball player for Nederland, so it would be safe to say he is knowledgable about baseball (both sports actually).  8)

In game situations, da sweet mid range jumper (SMRJ) is the shot of choice and the most available in game situations. And looking at kids today, the SMRJ is the hardest shot to make ;) But I do feel the "3" is like a dunk in a game, its what I call the "wow" factor. I know a kid who gets a lot of hype and plays at a major powerhouse high school in the Houston area. Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, and I heard a couple of ACC schools. He'll shoot 10-15 3's in a game on his summer team and in an average game, will hit 2 maybe 3 of those shots. But guess what! Those 2-3 shots makes him look like a shooter. Yates' players are the same way. Can't shoot but dunking is such a "wow" factor that their poor shooting is overlooked.
I agree that the SMRJ is more difficult for kids today bc there is more value in a dunk or a 3-pointer. When you and I played, no 3-point line existed, so a 14' jump shot was just as valuable as a 20' shot, and the 14' shot was a higher percentage shot. These days, most guards in HS either score (from the field) by making 3's and lay-ups. No surprise that the SMRJ is all but extinct, it's value has diminished.
Now Abe, you know you have me by  :-X years  ;D
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
 21. U are correct! Nederland finished 2nd in 1999, which was the first year 4A soccer had it's own State Championship. Before that, i believe all HS teams in TX competed on the 5A level. That team was led by (Senior) Davy Arnaud, who now plays professionally for Montreal Impact! He previously played for Sporting Kansas City before getting traded a couple of months ago. Any other SETX players playing professionally?

 23.
1999 Nederland lost in the State Final to Granbury I believe.
Really? Guess I missed that year!  :-[ U sure it was the Finals and not Semi-Finals? Either way, when a team (remember I played on 2 of those team's, so I'm not a 'Hater') wins District 21/23 years, there is usually more 'hardware' to show for it. Whether it be State Titles, Regional Titles, etc.
 24. A great example of hard work and dedication was shown this past year when the PG from Lewisville Marcus (Phil Forte) MADE 600 '3s' after practice every day before hitting the showers. Most kids today have too many other 'options' for entertainment that MOST of us didn't have growing up. [Hidden Content]
 25.

I don't know what "ever young" means, but tonight Nederland started 2 seniors, 2 juniors, and 7 sophmores. While I don't dispute the outcome, the number 1 team from district 37-4A squeaked by the number 4 team from district 38-4A.  I wish you luck in the next round.
Every year Nederland is said to be a 'powerhouse' because they have such good players, but every year when they lose any game, especially i n the playoffs, the excuse is always 'Nederland is a young team, they will be better next year'! Been hearing it for years!
Before this year, Nederland WAS a 'Powerhouse' in SETX for 20+ years by winning 21/23 District Titles dating back to 1989. However, put those Nederland team's in areas of Houston, and they finish 2nd or 3rd in MOST of those District Title Years. I played on 2 of those District Title Teams, and only won 3 Playoff games in 2 years. Most of our district games were over by halftime. A 4-1 Victory was considered a close one. The truth is that soccer is played much differently in SETX than it is played in Houston. Much more skill is involved to win in Houston. This is not an opinion, but a fact. If it were not true, then why hasn't any team from SETX (other than Kelly) ever made (or won) the state title?  8)
