You became a member on here to tell THAT LIE?  ::)
Are U questioning a life experience he encountered? Is it possible that he and his friend were recruited?  ???
I am speaking of SURROUNDING districts as well....Alief, Fort Bend, Katy, Humble, Aldine, Clear Creek, Pasadena, Pearland, etc......(there are more) HUNDREDS of schools....Privates too...
Oh, gotcha. I thought the discussion was only about kids who live in HISD can choose which school they attend before their 9th grade year begins. So, can a kid who lives under the HISD umbrella attend a school in FBISD if he chooses?
U are right on the Jeckyl and Hyde comparison, but the same can be said for Nederland and Central too. Hard to know who Ozen is when they lose to Livingston by 17, then 3 days later beat Ned by 11. Ned won AT Livingston by 16 or so, one week prior to Ozen losing AT Livingston.

 8.
Call it a miniature farm system if you like.  The fact is that in a place like HJ, there is a relatively small population from which to draw potential players and it is one way to get kids interested in the game.  Please don't be foolish enough to try to say/infer that the HJ/Silsbee/HF/Orangefield coach has an advantage on a Yates coach when it comes to selecting potential playing personnel.
To add to that thought, any small town kids play multiple sports. I would guess that MOST Yates Bball players don't play FB or baseball. In addition, only 3-4 kids from each grade sticks to Bball after participating in LD. Youth baseball teams (everywhere) have existed for decades, which holds the same concept.
 9.
I am a Jag fan, and I know this, there is NO 20-4A team that will beat nor compete with Yates.  I am so glad that Ned is having a LTrain (football) type run in district over the last two years, but Ned don't get too caught up in it, because we have all had fall to earth experiences (Central & Ozen Included). I do agrre with Dickie, that district Champs only matter in District, who won 24-4A last year?  Exactly!  It is relevant for local talk, but as far as State wide is concerned it is pretty much nothing. In contrast, I think us as fans must fully enjoy every accomplishment no matter how small. So congrats to 20-4A for having the opportunity to put at least one team in the regional tournament... maybe TWO!!!!!  Go Jags!
Good post! That is exactly what this site is about, local programs and their successes (however large or small they may be).
Bingo! We have a winner! Exactly what BD3 said a few months ago. Not sure where he has gone lately, but he brought this up about another coach. Don't remember who it was, but basically saying that by exposing kids to AAU ball, one recruits others to that program, whether intentionally are not.
EVERY coach can coach AAU...Its used to be against the rules, but that has changed...Its not illegal..I don't like it either, but, thats just the way it is...Its not recruiting, however.
I agree that it's not a traditional way of recruiting, but do you not see how it could be a dress rehearsal for other kids to see? It may not be directly recruiting, but it is a non-traditional form of recruiting, no? When one sees Duke (not comparing anyone  ::) ) on TV, do you think a HS kid might be more influenced to pick that school over another (NC State) who is not on TV as much?
Yes I can agree with that...But, do you realize how many kids are LOST by attending the "suburban" schools? I think it balances out, really...But to say that Coach Wise is recruiting is just wrong...He has made his program attractive by winning, and thats ok...and legal..kinda like being involved in little dribblers...right? ;)
By winning and getting city-wide (heck National) attention, the Yates program indirectly recruits kids to attend their school, just like my example regarding Duke and NC State. Can a Little Dribbler's program indirectly recruit a kid to attend a different school, yes but on a much smaller scale. Little Dribbler's is not getting National coverage anywhere, right? That's what Wise is doing as well. By coaching an AAU team (I know the rules, not his own players), others can see what he's doing and say, "I want to play for Yates". He IS doing that, and it's an indirect method of recruiting, IMO.
Around 5,000 per game if they can get in the venue...Of course in Houston, the fan base is cyclical...They will follow the best team year in and year out, but Yates has a pretty good following anyway...It used to be Willowridge like that in their day, but it has clearly shifted.
Why has Willowridge been unable to maintain their dominance like Yates has?
Because of TWO reasons...Ronnie Courtney (now the head coach at FB Bush) took the Texas Southern job, and they built Marshall, which greatly pulled from Willowridge's feeder pattern initially...They used to be the LARGEST school in Ft. Bend, attendance wise, now they are the smallest...Side Note: Ronnie Courtney won ANOTHER state title at FB Bush in 2010....ANOTHER coincidence, huh? 8)
How did Mr. Courtney do at Texas Southern?
Aha! On an 'even playing field'!  ;) Also, you're not suggesting any recruiting possibilities, right (whether directly or indirectly)??  :P

 14. I understand and accept that AAW has Ozen picked as a favorite Tuesday night. He explained it to me, and I understand it's his opinion. Doesn't mean I agree with it, but I understand his thinking since he didn't see either of Nederland's playoff games and I did. However, I'm like Soulja and uandme (cool name BTW) in this situation, bc I like when 'my team' is the underdawg. Remember, a big reason we have this board is to debate. Some feel their opinion holds more water than the next guy (not referring to you AAW-I think u know who though  ;D ). Just bc one disagrees with another does not mean one is whining about his/her team. Heck, Nederland was the underdawg against Humble last year in the Reg Qs and against Magnolia last week, but still won. Did anyone from Ned say anything about being the 'Dawg' against them?? No. Coach English went to Humble's 1st playoff game against Stratford, so he is not surprised at all that Ozen beat them. Actually, he told Coach Sevant (sp?) from Ozen that they will beat them (as coach Sevant was there too). Now, here are some facts from the season, and a hypothetical at the end: KW Park won the 1st meeting in district and lost the 2nd game. KW Park beat a #1 seed on Friday (as did Ozen). Humble played who was lined up in front of them. Had they beat a 3rd seed Ozen team, would that make their playoff wins less impressive? Probably so. However, they would still be favored in the next game against KW Park (if they had met this round). Well, considering that Humble swept Summer Creek in district by the scores of 62-52 and then 75-47, I would make Humble the favorite.
Ok, fair. Who would have been the favorite between Humble and KW Park (had they met again in the playoffs)? They split their head to heads in district play, yet Humble finished #1 and KW Park #2. I know for a fact that Humble would have been the favorite.
I would not know for a fact. I would have to look at how the two finished the season and how they performed in the playoffs up to that point.
17.
I put Ozen the favorite based on the fact that the last time these two played, Ozen won by double digits. Also, IMO, I believe Ozen is playing the better basketball of late based on their two playoff victories over what I consider better opponents than what Nederland faced. I believe that Humble and North Forest are better teams than Dayton and Magnolia. Humble was district champion and state ranked and North Forest was runner up in their district, sweeping Dayton in district, a team that Nederland struggled with in the first round. I admit that I was wrong with making Magnolia a favorite over Nederland but I see nothing wrong with making Ozen a favorite over Nederland based on what I just stated. IMO, Ozen is playing a little better basketball of late than Nederland therefore why I have them as 4 point favorites. I do not see where that is so hard to understand.
How was i suppose to know what you were thinking? Now that u have explained it, I understand, thanks!  ;)
 18. Did you simply ignore the fact that Ozen lost to Livingston in the 12th game in district by 17 points?!

But, I don't consider those to be the same as this game with Nederland and Ozen. Instead of posing questions to me, tell me why you do not agree with Ozen being the favorite and why Nederland should be the favorite.
Here is what they all have in common. Baylor, ISU, and FL State are 3rd place teams (as was Summer Creek). Kansas and Humble finished 1st in their standings, and NC and Duke are CO, yes CO-Champs of the ACC. Duke and FL State split their season meetings, just like Nederland and Ozen. Somehow you have the 3rd seed team as a favorite against the 1st seed team in the SAME district! Just doesn't seem logical.
