If both coaches agree that the game is for the district Champ, then it could be played as the district championship game. But since both are not agreeing to play it that way, it is only for seeding purposes only. With both being Co-district champions.
Yes! That is how I understand it too.

Playing again and Ned wins then that just mean they are truly (not district) still tied... But if Central wins again then it will be 3-1 and dominant in the series. Either way, it seems that you dont get a true resolve! So I vote "no play" and pick up a meaningful harm up game.
Seriously? Pre-District games don't count! It goes down on the books as Co-Champs. Any trophy or banner displayed would have to say Co-Champs.
Wrong. District 20-4A changed their rules from 2 years ago. The winner of the play-in game (or if a team concedes) will be the District Champs, and the loser will be declared as the District Runner-Up.
I think that is incorrect. I will check.
That's what my son told me. He was informed that is what Coach E told his players, but both coaches MUST agree to it. Sounds like it's not going to happen though. However, if one coach concedes, then they are co-district champs (I misunderstood that part) and it only determines seeding.
Not taking anything away from Nederland, but LC-M went through the motions. They had nothing at all to play for and according to the Beaumont Enterprise article, the LC-M coach seldom even got up off the bench and played the scrubs most of the game.
You just took EVERYTHING away from them (in your opinion). 'BUT' may only be a three letter word, BUT it is one of the most powerful words when used like this. The TRUTH remains that Ned won 28 games this year and went 12-2 in district. And THAT'S something you CAN'T take away from these kids. The FACT is that the big kid from LCM got 2 fouls early, so he HAD to sit a while. The coach (and the paper) can claim they played their 'reserves', BUT they failed to mention this FACT. LCM played hard and their 1st team until the game got out of hand. Great win and great defense Dawgs! Keep it up!
Nederland fans, take it as a compliment that so many people are talking about Nederland, no one would being saying anything unless they were doing good things. No matter how good you are people are always going to talk about you, mostly because of jealousy, so take it as a compliment and ignore the rest. I know it is tough to do, but that is what I would hope I would do.
Good way to look at it, and I agree. Thanks for the advice. ;) -

Respect you? For what? For being a butt? When did ANYONE from Nederland (or on this forum) state that we are Title Town?? Please show me! We are heads above what we were 5 years ago, and we are estatic about it! Who knows what we will be 5 years from now, so we are enjoying the ride. We don't recruit like some Houston schools do illegally, and private schools do legally. Oh, and BTW-We don't care about how strong other districts are this year! We are just looking to win our next game! You got spoiled growing up in your basketball world, and now you think you are a basketball elitist! You also got spoiled riding the coat tail of Boutte while winning a State and Nat'l Championship. Congrats on that, BTW. Amazing accomplishment! Not EVERY year is going to be like that. I would be willing to bet that there will NEVER be a run at that level around here, EVER!! So stop expecting it! Since you know so much about basketball, go coach a team and make a difference. BTW-You never answered me on what your alma mater has accomplished in bball over the last 10 years! -

Nederland is a good team and have proven so this year, but they peaed early, whereas teams like Central and Ozen peaked later on, when it counts. Blame it on coaching or talent or whatever, but Ozen and Central has the advantage here as you WANT momentum going into the playoffs. Nederland NEEDS a big win vs. LC-M and against us to get their confidence back.
I agree with some of your statement, but didn't Ozen just lose to Livingston the other night? I wouldn't call winning one game a lot of momentum?? ??? Bad Dog makes a great point. Nederland is still in 1st place, yet still not considered all that good. Nederland is as good as they were two weeks ago, they just missed opportunities last night. That game could easily have gone in Ned's favor, just like the 1st meeting between these 2 schools could have gone in Ozen's favor. Ozen had something to prove last night, and they did. Let's give credit to Ozen on beating a good team instead of trying to create a false perception. Any given night, a good team can lose a game. Just bc you lose a game or two doesn't mean that you are suddenly not good any more. HJ shot horribly from the FT line a few weeks ago and lost to Silsbee. Silsbee, who is considered a good team, won the game. If Ozen shoots that same FT percentage last night, Nederland wins that game. Perception people, perception. Nederland is still in 1st place. 8)
Yes Nederland is still in 1st place...in an AWFUL district...BUT, they have to line up and play who is on the schedule, and I get that. Crosby is in 1st place in their district too..so is Yates...how does Nederland compare to those district front runners? They don't...Yates beats Nederland by 30+ and you know it...Heck, Ozen too, THESE days!! Look, I am not being a downer on Nederland...I just know what I know....and I know that 20-4A is terrible.
Get a Life! Just like 5-on-5 said: you came on here 3 weeks ago and asked to come back on this board, promising to bring a positive influence. You have done none of that! All you want to do is toot your own horn and praise yourself. And all you have done is demoralize everyone from Vidor, Ozen, Anahuac, PNG, Lumberton, Nederland, HJ, HF, basically everyone. Hey, at least you don't discriminate! -

Nederland won 29 straight over roughly a 2 and a half year period...great achievement considering where that school usually is in boys basketball...Build on that...However, they are NOT THAT GOOD...and yes, they peaked way too early, as teams sometimes do. Thats no knock on Nederland...its just what it is.
DV-Why don't you go somewhere else and try to demoralize some other people other than District 20-4A? Nobody is forcing you to follow anyone around here. If you don't like the bball you're watching, then drive to Houston and watch better teams. BTW-How relevant has Madison been in bball the last 10 years? Ya, that's what i thought! :o Who cares if YOU think this district is 'down' this year, or the 'weakest'? The same exact thing was said last year about this district. Ned went to Regionals and Ozen came 2 points from making the trip. Not to mention Central and PNG almost won their 1st round games. It would not surprise me if 20-4A sweeps 19-4A this year in the 1st round. It COULD happen! You need to stop comparing EVERY team to your beloved 2001 Ozen National Champions. That is a once in a life time type of situation. IF you are comparing these teams to that team, then yes, it's a down year. But guess what? Not many team's are going to compete with those Ozen years. All of these kids practice and play hard. Stop trying to bring them down, they are just kids. Just bc Ozen is the 3rd, maybe 4th best team in Beaumont, you have to run out and talk down to people to make yourself feel better. And as far as your comment about you being the same person on the forum that you are in person? Give me a break! -

One team is NOT enough, no doubt about it. I remember Nederland losing to Bmt French 15-14 (something like that) when only one team made the playoffs, and French tied for the State Title (in FB), and Ned sat at home. Four is waayy too many, and should not be allowed in a 6 team District, EVER! When has a 4th place team ever won more than one game on the playoffs? I can live with 3 teams (especially in an 8 team district), bc a team may be dealing with an injury. the kid comes back mid season, and the team is drastically better. Then they have an opportunity to make something happen in the playoffs. I've seen some 3rd pl teams (Ozen FB this yr) make deep runs. Haven't seen that happen (yet) in basketball. Maybe someone knows of a 3rd pl team making deep bball runs? -
NB DAWG ,give credit wear credit is due, in the JV game #23 was on the bench along with the other starters ,when Ned. made their run ,put them back in, and the lead swelled. In the varsity game Ozen simply out played Ned. in all aspects ,other than free throw shooting, Ned. tried to play hack a Shaq. ;D ;D
Yep, that's what smart coaches do when they are down by 5 with two minutes to play. You foul the other team and send them to the line in hopes that they miss at least one. It didn't happen. Ozen shot 8-10 FTs and won the game! When Ned had a 5 point lead a few weeks ago, your coach sat on his butt the last two minutes, and Ned played keep away! I'm not sure what else u want me to say about #23? He's a stud! If the coach decides to play other players, then the other team needs to try to catch up during that time, and that's what happened. Our JV did not do what ur varsity did. We missed 8-10 FTs down the stretch, and Ozen JV blew the game open. -
