  1. 1) The player was not beconed onto the court.  He ran from the bench onto the play after the ball had been in play for a good 10 seconds.  The play was blown dead once one of the officials noticed he had run on floor as Orangefield was about to shoot a lay-up.  I overheard the coach say something after the game about the explaination being the officials fault.  Whether it was their fault or not the kid shouldn't be able to run on the floor. 2)  An Orangefield player made a three pointer.  As he made the shot the official on the baseline blew the whistle.  It turned out to be an accident.  They called a jump ball and gave it back to OF. I recognized all three officials.  One definitely normally does JV games.  The other two I have seen for years do Varsity games.  Would have expected more.
  2. I am pretty sure that it is not legal for a player, checked in or not, to run onto the floor once the ball is in play.  The only reason that the play should have been stopped was to call a technical foul.
  3. You can play a good game and shoot poorly and lose.  The problem with the Bobcats has been their effort on the court.  The past two games, that has really picked up.  If they would have shot better, even a little, these last two losses would have been W's and nobody would be talking right now.
  4. So now the Mustangs have lost to the same 4a teams that OF lost too.  Other than the last two games that the bobcats have played, they have lost to quality teams.  What is going on with them now, I have no idea.  I just tell my son the the shooting will come around.  That has ultimately cost them the last two games.  People were still counting them out.  I tell my son to never let them be counted out.  Always fight. To answer your statement Bobcat05.  Those kids are starting now.  It seemed as though the coach was mixing up the lineup to help out the bench.  He has moved some kids down to allow more playing time.  They have not responded.  If some of them don't start shooting better and quit turning the ball over and make better decisions, then my personal opinion, which matters nothing, is he should move them back up.  I don't care if you made all district or not.  If you aren't getting the job done this year, I don't care if you made all state last year.  I believe, as long as Hayes plays hard on both ends of the floor, the Bobcats are going to contend for the playoffs.  It is not going to be easy.  They better come ready to play.
  5. How about a ruling on when EC ran a player onto the floor during the play without checking in because they had only 4 players on the floor.  The ball had been in play for 10-15 seconds.  OF is about to score and player runs onto the floor from the bench.  No Tech or anything.  Stop the play as OF is about to shoot a lay-up.  OF ball out of bounds.  It was like a line change in hockey.  Another one was a jump ball when the OF player had the ball and an EC player's feet were wrapped around it.  Not saying the officiating had anything to do with the outcome.  Just questioning.  OF has got to shoot better.  I talked to the coach after the game and he said they are 6 for 49 from behing the arc the last two games.  WOW.  They might want to take it to the rack instead of jacking threes if they are not falling.
  6. Where was this transfer when HF got blown out every game this weekend in OF (including by Sabine Pass).
  7. They have a new. coach. How do you have any idea what they will run. He was very successful in North Carolina, but wasn't able to get here until the end of the summer. If they do run the man press, OF handled it ok last year. They did take them to a play-in game and return 7 letterman, including three all district and one all region player. They could be a very good team this year if they can play as a team.
  8. My son had asked me if he played basketball as well?
  9. Do you know for a fact that Phillips didn't pull his own name out? Just wondering.
  10. BigNut I don't understand why you live in OF. You trash the "athletes" they have (or don't have in your opinion). You trash the school board, the supe and the rest of the administration. It seems as though you second guess every decision that anyone makes and it must always be their fault. It could not have been Long's decision to stay at Kelly because they increased his pay to keep him. Faust couldn't have decided to pull his name out because of family issues. It is always the supes fault. Not calling Phillips in for an interview couldn't have been because Phillips said something on the phone that just would not fit at OF. You know the place so good since you have been around so long. Seriously, BigNut, this same old blame the admin. is getting old. Get someone in there who will motivate and bring some energy. Have discipline and hold the kids accountable. Support all the sports and the coaches who work for him. Let the coaches coach and lead in them in a positive manner. I don't care if it is someone with experience or not. Wildcatter, your next post will be number 100 so make it a good one.
  11. I don't know if I would brag about working for Moody either.
  12. Everyone keeps talking about experience. Yes, I know that because of the lateness of the resignation and hire, that someone with experience would be best for this upcoming year. Maybe the Super is worried about the future of the program, not just next year. You don't know what was said in the phone interview with Phillips. You have no idea unless you are Phillips or Welch. Maybe Phillips said that he had an interview in West Texas this week (which is where he is from) so Welch decided against it. We don't know. Why is Huckaby such a front runner. Because he inhereted athletes at Paul Pewitt and had an awesome quarterback who went to Oklahoma. If you have somebody like that at the small school level, it can change a program. OF doesn't have anybody like that. Maybe they need somebody with some energy who can re-motivate those kids. They also need someone who is not just a football coach. They need to be TRULY for all sports. Not just say they are for all sports. OF needs an Athletic Director, not just a football coach.
  13. So you have never heard a football coach say it would be more benficial for you to lift weights instead of playing basketball or baseball. You are crazy. It happens all the time.
  14. You keep talking about all the kids that are not playing football for OF. In reality, there was just one kid who did not play this last year that everyone is referring to. To say that he would have turned around a 1-8 season is crazy. There were no other kids that chose not to play football this past year that would have made a difference. Is it important that all the kids participate at schools the size of OF. Yes. They should only play if they want to though. They should not be coerced to play or not to play. The kids should play what they want to. If you want to get on here and bash kids for making the decision not to. You live with that. I hope someone doesn't do the same to your kids when they get older. Lord help them if they choose not to play the almighty football.
  15. BigNut, according to you the summer is the time to get ready for football. When would be the time to get ready for basketball. Not during football season certainly. Not after the season during baseball. That wouldn't make sense either. During the SUMMER. It is hard on small school athletes. They have to prepare for multiple sports, but the summer is not reserved for football. If you think the basketball coach doesn't emphasize weights then you have never met him. I have talked to him and weights are important in basketball as well. Your philosophy benefits only one team, the football team. I saw where someone earlier said something about you being AD. I know that your philosophy does not promote all sports and I would not want my kid playing for you. By the way, he does play multiple sports (including football), he does play summer league, he would play 7-on-7 (we don't have a team right now), and he will be at summer workouts on monday. That is what an athlete at OF has to do. As well has hold down a summer job in most cases. Yes, we do have athletes at OF, no we don't have as many as other schools, which means that they have to be better at specific skills, such as dribbling, shooting, hitting, catching, and lifting weights. Oh, by the way it was nice to meet you at the boil yesterday. You didn't seem as big of a jerk in person as on here.
  16. I don't know if it is because it is a football state or coaching a team that is always a 1 or 2 seed. Why would a 1 or 2 want to take a chance on losing and not making the playoffs. It is obvious that you must be from one of the schools that is normally down at the bottom of the pack. Always looking for a chance.
  17. Just because that is how they do it in Kentucky doesn't mean it would work here. Come on Wildcatter. On a serious note, I do think that it should go to top four teams in 3A and 2A. It wouldn't change the bracket and give another team that chance. Don't throw in the water down the playoff bit. There were 7 different 4 seeds that beat 1 seeds in the 4A playoffs this past year. That makes it worth it. Even if all the others were blow outs.
  18. Is baseball the same as basketball and volleyball? If you get 3rd and win your first playoff game you get a bye to the regional quarterfinals. If it is the same, it is something to think about.
  19. DDavis55, The OL awards are for the entire year, not just district. You didn't start to play well except for a few games in district. You were basically nonexistent the last three games of the year, which were the most important for the Mustangs. I wouldn't come on here unless you are willing to get the attention from it.
  20. There is a big difference between 6'5" (Forney) and 6'10" (Perkins). Besides the comparison of being lazy might have come from his 9th grade year to 10th grade year. Maybe it looked as though he worked harder last year. That has to do with his effort level. Did he dominate teams that were not big inside? They games that I saw he didn't. I'm not talking offensively either. Even if you are not getting the ball on the offensive end. You can get after it on the defensive end.
  21. You are right Fruitcity. Orangefield has gone downhill since Toon left. OF only went to the playoffs last year in the toughest district in the state and are still fighting for the playoffs this year. Don't get me wrong, Coach Toon did a great job and I loved watching his teams play, but the Bobcats are still going strong on the hardwood without him.
  22. Has HJ ever lost to OF?
  23. I am pretty sure that many OF fans only see "the big 3" when OF plays them (except beeninikes) so their opions are going to be based on that. That is why it is an outsiders viewpoint. There is nothing wrong with that. That is what a forum is for. Now back to the game. Congratulations on the hawks grinding out a victory. Benard stepped up on the offensive end and Turner on the defensive end in the second half. Angelle's shooting was a little off but his defense was invaluable. From a fan's perspective, I felt like the Bobcats executed the coach's gameplan as well as they have all year. Especially against a good team. You HJ who just say HJ had an off night. I know it would be inconceivable to you to think the Bobcats had anything to do with that. Oh and by the way, about the comment on Hayes being classless. HJ players talk trash as well. To both our student section (which I was sitting right beside) and the players. Yours aren't little angels and remember these are 16-18 year old kids. Now on to my soap box and I do not think anyway cost us the game. I just don't get it. I saw one of the officials warn our coach at the beginning of the game to stay in his box, yet when I watched the game, I saw the HJ coach roaming from halfcourt to the baseline. Seems like a double standard. I also saw the taller official warn our assistant coach to stay seated, yet I looked and saw all three HJ coaches up yelling at the officials. Once again. And lastly, once again I do not think this cost us the game, how in the world is the foul count for the game 17-10 (OF with 17). Granted the last couple OF fouled deliberately, but to only call 2 fouls on HJ the second half. Come on. Once again. Congratulations to the hawks. You did what you needed to do to win the game. That is what good teams do. Also, I heard the coaches talking about officials not showing up. What is up with the officials chapter around here? I have read a lot about this subject on the board lately.
  24. Not true. My son got into the lane many times in both halves and was not double teamed. He just pulled his head out in the 2nd half and shot the ball. Anytime Zach made 1 dribble to the lane they collapsed. Silsbee was still playing sound defense. They just weren't as worried about the smaller guards penetrating and scoring as much. Sislbee played great defense. OF just needs to come out and play for an entire game.
  25. He was double teamed everytime he took one dribble to the hole. You don't have to be double teamed everytime you touch the ball, but when he made a move to the bucket, they came.
