my triton is a center console. Thank you both for the excellent information. I know little or nothing about the lake. Where would be the best place to launch to fish the lake. Where in the lake is your favorite spot.

I hate to admit that at 53 years old I am a rookie,but i am. I bought a22FT TRITON ....love the boat....I have been out of Sabine Pass about three times. This past Sunday we started out at the La jettys caught onekeeper speck. We then went to the texas cut...caught nothing but trash.....then took off due west to the closest rigs we could get to. We caught fish or lost our bait on every cast..ended up with ten keeper trout. MY QUESTIONS....................................... 1) can you suggest other areas to try. 2) is this boat too big to take into the lake. 3) How and where do you fish for flounder. 4) I have been using live shrimp....any other bait or artificial to try 5) any well meaning tips or pointers will be appreciated THANKS

I have been waiting until we got close to the end to give you my list of the best officials that have worked with. There are two lists-no one makes both the boys and girls, and the only refs listed are ones that i worked with personally. Great officials like Eddie King,Matthew Smith, and Jim Westbrook are not included because in my 16 year career I never had the pleasure. This is not in order of preference, in face I am purposely doing random order not to hurt anyone feeling. So here goes!! See how it matches up to your list. 1) Eddie Hopkins-Taught me how to expediate the game 2) Tracey Doucet-steady as a rock 3) Mickey Guidry-No one better in a tough game 4) Greg Garrett-just does not make mistakes 5) Chip Johnson-had my first big ballgame with him-little dribbler national championship-learned plenty 6) Kevin Abernathy-most deserving official who should be at the state tournament 7) Bob Thewman-I would work with him in any game anytime. 8) Lefty Hines-Personality on the court makes him a great ref 9) Jim Lancaster-knows how to be in charge on the court 0) Mike Ryals-Most respected individual in the chapter GIRLS LIST 1) Kelly Touchet-No official better to work with-knows what he is doing 2) Roy Washington- works hard and understands the game 3) Chris Street-should be on the boys but I ran out of room 4) Norris Roberts-DITTO 5) Ronnie Girouard-SAME 6) Mike Simpson-Studys more than anyone in the chapter-also gives the best pregame 7) Lynn Hadnot- has the personality to handle any situation 8) Mike Gobert-quiet Mike is in a class of his own 9)John Cole/Paul Booker -sorry running out of spots 0) all and I mean all-LADIES IN OUR CHAPTER!!!!!!!! I have heard you guys for years talk about poorly officiated games. I would like to know what constatutes a well called game. Please don't talk about the obvious like consistency, I think we can all appreciate that, but give the officials who read this board food for thought. This can be a good learning tool for everyone-if you allow it

Carol First of all I didn't know WHSALUM was your brother. He always has a good perspective on the game and I appreciate his comments. Second, the other night when you told me you were going to hang-em up, I thought it was just the end of a long season and you would change your mind. I guess we as officials have a little different insight into coaches. I have always said that outside of the six foot box on the sidelines that coaches were the best people to pal around with. The difference for you is that you were even ok inside the box. I don't know if you realize that you and I go all the way back to Nederland. I know that is dating both of us but so be it. Carol, I don't know if you know how much of an impact that you have had on all the people around you, but it has been unbelievable. The children, parents, and officials who have come in contact with you, will miss you a great deal. I am at the top of that list. your friend Joe Whitted

Thanks for the kind words. However, the tall referee that you are talking about has done the state tournament for six years running, and is a college official. He is one of the best I have ever worked with. The other gentleman was from the Huntsville chapter and was a very nice man. OLDREF

I LOVE THIS WEBSITE. I SPEND LOTS OF TIME READING THE DIFFERENT POSTS. I TRULY THINK THAT THERE ARE MANY OF YOU WHO UNDERSTAND THE GAME. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO DO IS GIVE YOU AN INSIGHT INTO AN OFFICIALS MIND. FIRST, OFFICIALS DO NOT CARE WHO WINS. THEY JUST WANT TO DO THERE JOB AND GO HOME. SECOND, ALL OF THEOFFICIALS THAT I KNOW ARE CHRISTIANS, AND MANY ARE MINISTERS. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THEY WOULD DO ANYTHING TO ADVERSELY AFFECT CHILDREN ON A BASKETBALL COURT THIRD, OFFICIALS ARE HUMAN, AND THEY MAKE MISTAKES. THEY DON'T DO IT ON PURPOSE.FOURTH, ALL COACHES AND OFFICIALS DON'T ALWAYS GET ALONG. COACHES HAVE THERE FAVORITES. PEOPLE THAT THEY ARE COMFORTABLE WITH. I HAVE PEOPLE WHO LOVW SEEING ME WALK IN THEIR GYM, AND I HAVE OTHERS WHO CRINGE. IT IS NOT PERSONAL. THE REFS COST US THE GAME IS AN EASY SCAPE GOAT. IF WE CALLED A FOUL EVERYTIME THERE WAS CONTACT,OR A TRAVEL EVERYTIME SOMEONE SHUFFLED THERE FEET, IT WOULD BE SO BORING THAT NO ONE WOULD COME. I HAVE WATCHED THIS GAME PROBABLY 50 TIMES. I HAVE SHOWED IT TO PEOPLE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. I BELIEVE THAT KK PROBABLY HAD A ONE IN FIFTY CHANCE OF MAKING THAT SHOT AT THE BUZZER. THE POINT IS THAT I THOUGHT SHE WAS FOULED AND SHE SHOULD GET EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE THAT SHOT. YOU ONCE ASKED""COULDN'T YOU HAVE OVERRULED HIM'' THE ANSWER IS NO. ONE OFFICIAL CANNOT OVERRULE ANOTHER ON A TECHNICAL FOUL,BESIDES WE HAVE PRIMARY AREAS OF COVERAGE. THIS MEANS THAT I AM CONCENTRATING ON THE PLAYERS IN THE PAINT. IF MY CO-OFFICIAL TELLS ME THAT PLAYERS CAME ON THE COURT, THAN I HAVE TO BELIEVE HIM. IT IS CALLED TRUSTING YOUR PARTNER. I HAVE WORKED HARD FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. I WILL BE RETIRING IN A FEW SHORT SEASONS. I REFEREE BASKETBALL TO STILL BE A PART OF SPORTS(I PLAYED IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP 4A FOOTBALL GAME AGAINST ODESSA PERMIAN IN 1973). GENTLEMAN PLEASE One day I hope everyone will understand that we are just trying to do the best job we can for the kids. We are human and we make mistakes. i have officiated for 16 years and have never called a game for my hometown, except during tournaments where i was not given a choice. THERE IS NO HOME COOKING ANYWHERE. All any official wants is for the losing coach to tell him GOOD JOB-the winning coach in most cases will always tell you. BLEED thanks for backing us up. I watch this site often-Is it my imagination or is there less complaining about officiating this year. Any official just wants to do his game and nobody remember him being out there.
