  1. All us Cougar fans are just getting in. First of all, to the Warren kid who left in ambulance in the fourth quarter, hope all is well with you. From our side, it looked like a lower leg injury. We wish you well. Anyone from Warren have any info on the 8th grader that was taken by helicopter from the game on Thursday night. Now to the game...Buna 42, Warren 0. Warren was very athletic, just did not have any All-State guys (you know, good hands). Several dropped passes, several fumbles. Qb threw the ball well, punter was outstanding. Buna and their running back corp just pounded away at the Warrior defense. After a slow start in the first quarter, the o-line for the Cougars kept opening holes for Allen, Baker, Craft, Holden, Shepherd and Williams, as they probably averaged over 8 yards per carry. Shepherd left alot of blue paint on those black helmets tonight on defense. Solid game for the Coogs headed into an off week. Great job Cougars.
  2. Great win for the Pirates. There was alot of negative talk on this forum all week about Deweyville. It just goes to show you, you just never know. These are high school kids in the middle of a season ful of turmoil. Anything can happen...as far as the referee's, they probably were the same crew, but...you can only blame the refs for so long. Congrats Pirates.
  3. Keep on overlookin' those Coogs.
  4. Probably should move this game to Jasper or even Silsbee if the stadium is open during that week. This game could draw a huge crowd.
  5. I would prefer all to not list players names, only numbers in these kind of posts. And if you are a player, keep your cool, maybe even stay off here. There are too many unknowledgeable fans and outsiders for the players to take all their opinions to heart. Listen to your coaches, they have a plan, whether Mom or Dad thinks it is right, they have a plan, follow it.
  6. I am not one for predicting high school football scores, especially following the situations all these schools have faced in the past month. A this point in time, noone really knows what team will show up on Friday night. My other reason for not predicting high school scores, they are still kids, with grades, girlfriends, parents, etc. However, to WarrenWarrior#87, I wish your team all the luck, but the items you pointed out that Warren needs to do to win, is basically play a perfect game from top to bottom. Good luck on that. Buna' o-line even with the graduation they had is still pretty strong and quick. Go Cougars....
  7. The above link is not working for me, anybody else having problems with it? Yes, I noticed your "tossing" actions, I had to explain to a few older gentlemen standing next to me, we were at the fence about 10 yards from you. Now as far as the pass interference call, and once again, I was no more than 15 yards from the play, it was a very questionable call. The safetys for Kountze are small, but play big. I would not have called it personally and I am from Buna. It was not a blatant interference. Pass interference in high school football is right there with holding calls. If it is not blatant, it is rarely called. I don't know what the penalty totals were, but I would assume that the numbers were pretty even, although most of Buna's penalties, were offsides on defense. Not a judgement, pretty obvious calls. Great game by both teams once again.
  8. Oooopps, my bad. A little early for those predictions. At least wait maybe halfway through district.
  9. District Co-Champs, I think Buna and EC were declared co-champs in '07.
  10. I sure would like to see Buna open up the passing game a bit more. Clark to Gilkerson or Clark to Baxter could be a deadly combo. We all know from baseball (mid 80's fastball) that he has the arm and those guys have the hands. Especially with Craft out for awhile, although Clark, Baker, Shepherd and a few others ran the ball well tonight.
  11. Sophomore QB for Bucs holding his own. Coached him and my son for 4 years on a local select baseball team, whenever you needed someone to throw strikes and get you out of jams, you called on one of those 2, cool as cucumbers. Keep it up #4. Looking good.
  12. Great job Cardinals! From all your friends and supporters in Buna.
  13. I agree with you (atm_1989), I just finished watching the Tailgate Party (DVR'd it). The Kountze runner was not out of bounds. One pass interference, questionable, the other not so much. The refs did play a big part in this game. Still, both teams played a hard fought game. There were only just a few big plays. Most of the yards rushed for tonight, were hard yards. Lots of great hits. Both of these teams will do well during the rest of district season.
  14. To add to my previous post, I think you could really narrow that list down to 2 schools: WO-S and Newton. Others have had success, but year in and year out, these guys get it done. Are there any other head coaches in the state with the tenure that these 2 have (Hooks and Barbay), if so I would love to know. There is only one reason coaches stay for this amount of time, WIN BABY WIN! They have built these schools Tradition. I can still remember Newton coming to Buna as a kid, they were to be feared. Back in the early '80's, if I remember right, their stripes on the sides of their pants were zig-zagged, even as a Lil' Cougar, it was almost like a college team was coming to play our boys when Newton showed up.
  15. Ouch....Looks like Anahuac was overlooked by the Hardin boys.
  16. Great ballgame to watch, Kountze gave Buna all it wanted and more. Buna ran the ball well, completed a couple of good passes. Got help from a Kountze pass interference call. Kountze ran the ball much better in the second half, if they could have ran that well all night, it might have been a different outcome. but the Buna defense really shut the ground game down in the first half and played an outstanding game all night. Baker ran the ball hard for Buna, really ate up some ground late in the second half, sure he will feel all those hits tomorrow morning. Sorry I do n ot know the names, but #22 and #31 ran well for Kountze. Great job by both teams. Once again, a great game to watch from both sides. Final: BUNA 19- KOUNTZE 9.
  17. Looks like Coach Barbay has the Panthers ready for district. Solid win guys!
  18. A "Tradition" is defined by Websters as: 1. An inherited pattern of thought or action. 2. A specific practice of long standing. So, that would include just a few of our area schools, teams with recent success (Lumberton, Kountze, Buna, etc. would fail to make the "Tradition" list. And no doubt, there are some teams from years ago, (defunct schools) that would be included. But as far as active schools: 1. WO-S, 2. PN-G, 3. Nederland, 4. Newton, 5. Jasper.
  19. I agree, I was there for all 3 complete 2A games and 5 innings of the 'ship. He was a real spark plug for the Coogs.
  20. Another fact I missed...Biggest Inning, 8 runs on 4 hits and 4 errors, Beaumont South Park, 1951, in defeating Wichita Falls 9-2. South Park went on to win that years 5A title over Highland Park 2-0. Other local championships fall few and far between, best I can tell, in 1959, Beaumont won the 4A title over Fort Worth Paschal, 2-0. Then the next title by an area team was in 1983 Port Arthur Jefferson, with a 6-1 win over Corpus Christi Moody for the 5A title. Then in 2000, Evadale won the 1A championship over Cross Plains 11-0, Woodville in 2005, 2-1 over Holiday, and of course Jasper, 14-4 over Texarkana Liberty-Eylau, 2007. A bit outside our area we have had champions from Colmesneil (2003, 1990, 1986) and San Augustine (1987).
  21. No doubt, the only team close to them could be Freer from 1990, they scored 13 in the 'ship, so they could have come close, but I can't find what the semis scores were. Jasper more than likely owns that record as well.
  22. Bythe book, the stolen base record holders' for 3A are: Individual, one game, 4, Brad Ficke, West, 1999. Individual, tournament, 5, Marty Pate, Linden-Kildare, 1985. Most by team, game, 16, West, 1999. Most by team, tournament, 22, West, 1999. As far as runs, it lists Jasper, 14, one game as record from 2007. Then aggregate for game, 24, Freer defeated Southlake Carrol, 13-11, 1990. It does not list most runs tournament by a team. Maybe I am missing that somewhere.
  23. Well stated by all. Cardiac Cougars wil be back next year!
  24. Yeah, 7 returners. 4 will be seniors in '09, 3 will be juniors. They have 3 sophmores who should get alot of playing time this next year along with a few reserve seniors filling in as well. Graduating seniors were in left field (Carrell) and second base (Clark).
  25. Disch-Faulk is being revamped after this year correct? I heard everything goes back there starting next season. Going to miss Dell Diamond, what a ballpark!
