1. Thanks for the education.  I had not heard of Princeton offense, but I don't pretend to know much about basketball.  I recongnize some defenses and thats about it. I found this on Youtube along with many others on the subject. [Hidden Content] It is a constant motion offense, nobody stands around.
 2.
I just requested to be your friend on FB....my name is Rob Great pics of LU events by the way!!!!
I guess there's a little time lag on FB, but thanks on the photo comps.  I don't have the big white lens, some are going to be a little less then perfect, but sometime it's all there is and I figure it is better then nothing.
 3.
The Texas fans sitting behind me at the game commented "Why can't we dunk like that?"  That dunk did cause a lot of oohs and aahs.
I heard similar comments.  The Texas fans were impressed with Lamar and that if our shots had gone in Texas would have had their hands full. I think we did well with our free throws and heard comments about that.  They were upset about Texas's ball handling, wild passes and heard rumblings about their coach.
 4. The ally oop is started with photo #50 as Milk moves the ball, #51 and 52 completes Lamb's dunk.  I missed the complete play, as you know BB is a quick game. [Hidden Content]
 5. We can get another look tomorrow night.  GO CARDS!!!
 6.
One other thing I noticed last night...Very nice student crowd for a scrimmage! Could be a sign of things to come?
I noticed that too, I think that some Lady Cards and some from the football team were in the mix.
 7.
If you want specifics... Lamar hoops ranks last amongst all sports at Lamar with women at the bottom, preceded by the men. [Hidden Content]
I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but if the 2000 - 2003 are dates, both of your link information is a bit dated. I would like to see more current data.
 8. Getting prepared for a great season. This was posted on the great social network
 9.
just curious bigred360 i know it doesn't mean anything but whats a rough estimate of how many ppl  who showed up for the scrimmage
My wife and I were there and maybe about a dozen others not including most of the mens team. I would have thought there would be more. I had wished I had printed out a bunch of rosters, because they did not provide one and we were trying to figure out who was who. Bigred360 has made a good account of how things were.  I know its early, but Danny was short of a number of close put ins that would made her point count better if they had gone in.  Taylor Hays was excellent on her 3-pointers and got back on D quickly.  And was quick to be back on Off.  So with Kalis, Frenchie and Taylor's speed down court, fast breaks are going to be there. It's going to be an exciting season.
 10.
I think as of now, Custer will be a starter. Already named a captain of the team.
I hope Custer can get and stay healthy, I was hoping he could become another Landon Rowe and have a great year.
 11.
It helps to be best friends with the AD. If they make the SLC tournament Coach Roc will still be around.  BTW, I've heard there may be four new starters with Custer making the 5th. Anyone else hear anything like this?
We have been season ticket holders since 92' and have heard the same ol thing every year...But we enjoy the fans that we have made over the years.  Some have grown tired of it and have not came back.  There are some though that come until they can't come anymore.  We lost two very long time fans in Sept.  They will be missed. It sounds like.... we are in for a treat this year IF the players can play as advertised.  An added treat would be if the students and at least half the football fans attend the men and women's games.
 12. I believe that Frenchie is as quick as Kalis and Jenna is going to have some good fast break opportunities.  From the social network it was said the Red/White game will be Sat at 9.  If interested
 13.
Yes, I read it on katfans this morning and here is my reply. I heard the "where are they now" sigment last night with Billy Tubbs and Bo Brown as I was leaving work. It is funny how two different people can hear the same thing and get a different message. IMO, Billy Tubbs was not dogging the SLC. He did state in his opinion it was a bad decision to drop football and leave the Sun Belt conference. I did not hear him say one bad word about the SLC. He stated in his opinion it would have been easier to go FBS if we never left the Sun Belt and that is true. (See South Alabama) He also mentioned the old rivalries with La Tech, North Texas, SW Louisiana (now ULL) and Arkansas State. Then he stated he thought bringing back football and all the excitement around SE Texas will run over into fan attendance in other sports at Lamar. Asking a honest question here; would you think it would be a mistake to go back to DII for financial reasons it that were to happen at SHSU? (I know it will not happen at SHSU I'm just using a hypothetical.) I say yes it would be a huge mistake and it was a mistake for Lamar to leave the Sun Belt for those reasons. Just my opinion. Coach Tubbs mentioned he and a few other administrators including Dr. Simmons are looking at all situations and monitoring conference realignment at Lamar. We have to get better in our athletic department, fielding better teams including football. Plus, we have to raise money for a move to a FBS conference. I believe I've read on here that you guys are monitoring the situation with conference realignment too. No one knows what the SLC will be if you lose 2 Texas schools and a couple from Louisiana due to budget issues. For TexasTerror, he did resign as AD and is Special Assistant/Consultant to the President. He helped bring back football and has made several great hires as in Coach Tidwell now AD/WBB HC, the strenght and conditioning coach Scott Reeves, Brian White men's golf, Dewi Hardman women's soccer, Ron Wesbrooks director of tennis operations, Justin Gibert volleyball, Trey Clark men's and women's cross country, media relations and other athletic administrative positions. If Coach Roc has a breakthrough season like I heard Coach Tidwell state he believed was going to happen after watching them practice in the off season program you can add him to the list a good hires by Coach Tubbs. Billy Tubbs has served Lamar University for a total of 25 years. He was involved in the winning of eight conference championships as a coach, and since he returned to the school as athletics director in 2002, Lamar teams have accounted for 20 Southland Conference championships in eight different sports.
I did not see this thread until now and made comments on the "plain awful" thread about this.  I'm glad you have a made complete and better stated account of what was said.
 14.
SFA won again in a blowout and is now 5-1, but only had 7938 at their game. SHSU also won again in a blowout and are 4-2, but only had 7457 at their game. Texas State lost again but are expanding their stadium so they can move to the WAC, and they had 12,994 at their game.
These SLC attendance accounts in relation to Lamar attendance counts seems to be a familiar trend. I was told that there could have been about 450 at the Lamar Volleyball game Sat. I think that is a good number for volleyball,  it is hear say I don't know if correct.   I hope Lamar's attendance counts in relation to other SLC schools continues.  STRENGTH IN NUMBERS!! GO BIG RED!!!!
 15.

awful awful awful....................first year, first week, first practice...there is no excuse..NONE for what showed up offensively for LU....a stinking joke!
Awww come on now.  We are just a first year program!  Keep in mind we were playing the great South Alabama who's had a full year and 1/2 of experience.  We should expect to be totally dominated! NOT!!!!!!!!!
I agree, I thought the score would have been worse but that we would scored at least one TD.  I don't thind USA had their best game, maybe it was over confidence or what.  Our offense was dominated by their much bigger D-line and our defense needs to be drilled on tackling and drilled on how to put a shoulder into a tackle.  There was way too many missed tackles and arm tackles that were costly.  One thing that I noticed too was that they were weak in the kicking game too.  Our field goal kicker looked like the guy off the street that tried to kick a field goal for a prize.  He may have a injury problem, I don't know, but he is not earning his scholarship if he is getting one.
Aren't you an SHSU fan? as in the negative LU posts on Katfans.com: JJWooten Hero Member ***** Posts: 1280 on Katfans.com?     Re: Lamar AD Looking to Leave SLC « Reply #18 on: October 16, 2010, 08:48:13 PM »      Billy Tubbs on the halftime show for the USA game trashed the SLC pretty hard. He talked about how bad of a decision it was for Lamar to leave the Sunbelt for the Southland, and that's the reason why Lamar has struggled so much for the past two decades. He basically explained that his role as "advisor to the president" is to help them get out of the SLC if the opportunity comes up
I was at the game and had my Sony Walkman and heard the interview you speak of.   I guess I will have to "Snopes your banter"  as being Mixed.  Your first and last statements are not totally true.  He did not necessarily trash the SLC hard and as advisor the the president, he said that Lamar needs to be ready if an opportunity arises in the Sunbelt, WAC, Conference USA or what ever move that would be to Lamar advantage.....(I feel not to get caught flatfooted and not able to move it needed to.) I too wish we could have stayed in the Sunbelt, but Lamar was in such bad shape the loss of football snowballed the downward spiral and we could not afford to stay with the travel and all.   He spoke of how Dr. Simmons has brought back through his hard work and dictation to Lamar.  How he has gotten Beaumont and the community support.  Lamar has to improved campus facilities and how the old dorms were em brassing to show prospective athletes of all sports, much less his  bball players. You know if the various sports programs a improving as well as they are, why not look ahead and be ready to make the necessary steps to move on. I could go on. I walked through the campus game day.  I park in the old McDonald Gym Parking lot. I know it gone and a new facility is there in it's place. As I walked I noticed someone coming up from behind and I mentioned it had been 40 years since I had walked the campus and how really nice it was.  The guy introduced himself and some the was a South Alabama alum from Houston. He was very impressed the campus and stadium and when I pointed out the Montagne Center he was father impressed.  They have to borrow a football stadium as they don't have their own stadium. I was rather proud of what Dr. Simmons has done for Lamar and getting the kind comments from a visitor. GO BIG RED!!!!

 18. I know it's old news, but I found this on the SFA forum and thought it might be good to post here. [Hidden Content]
 19. I usually have a camera with me and I took a few pics of the game while I was there. [Hidden Content]
 20. I think they showed last week and even more tonight that they have GRIT.  The game an't over until the fat lady sings.
 21.
I know that SELA did not have the starting QB but this was still a very big win for LU.  Should be a huge confidence booster and hopefully propel them to a very good first season.
Their QB, I guess a true freshman, played very well, making some pretty passes, receiver in stride.  They protected him very well.  The winning TD was made despite the refs, illegal procedure calls against us that backed us up.  Their blitz rush timing put them off sides each time. I am still disappointed in our kicking game.  Our kick offs are short and he did miss a FG.  The other punter showed good leg and put a punt in the corner, like you would expect from your punter.
 22. I got mine, there will be four of us.  I was wondering what kind of numbers Lamar will have there.
 23.
I am concerned about the kicking game, from what I have seen the past 2 games looks like the kid is struggling.  Kick Offs need special attention, in college you do not KICK OFF to the 30, 20, etc.    The atmosphere Saturday was unbelievable from all the tailgating to the KICK OFF.  Everybody was so excited for LAMAR to be back,  but like Woodard has said they are a young team and there are things that need to be worked on.  It is obvious that special teams need some work.
We share common concerns.  I hope we can improve on each game.  I guess that's what this season is for.
 24. After such a spectacular game in LC, we looked flat.  But it came out that we fought the officials, Webber International and the heat to get the win. I think that Lamar University, Dr. Simmons, and everybody that had a hand in refurbishing the stadium, did a fantastic job.  Our new scoreboard worked to perfection, as well as everything else in the stadium. One thing I watched, with some interest was Lamar's kicking game.  I hope this kid we got, comes around to his advertised talent.
 25. Good Luck to Taylor!!!  I was looking forward to watching him kick for Lamar.  In time we might see if it hurt Lamar to pass on him.
