I thought Kounze looked much better than last year or the previous years...saw alot of intensity by all the coaches. I think all of them are doing a great job giving these kids a new direction. Defense was much improved and the Offense stumbled a bit but I know we were missing a few key people who were not dressed out yesterday. In addition, the offense Kountze is running is going to take them a few more practices to get it down. Offense skill guys were fast...the line just needs to make adjustments and know assignments. Defense was fast to the ball...Kountze should not get blown out this year. At quarterback I think Kountze will have to make a hard decision...go with the young freshman who is a tremendous athlete and let him cut his teeth or go with an upperclassman. I like the freshman, but everyone needs to remember he is young and will make mistakes. Want to put a thank you out to coaches...Franklin, Kirby, Harper, Colton, Middleton, Hancock, Jubert, Thrasher, McQueen and I know we got another new coach don't know his name...but thanks! Sorry if I missed anyone. You guys are making a Difference with these kids...By the way saw something that I have not seen in Kountze ever...Coach Middleton was having to tune up the Offense, " little running...attention getter". anyway told the Defense they were excused from the fun...looked up and here came the entire Defense...Coach Middleton said if you did not play Offense take a knee and a couple of Defensive guys said " Coach we are a team" and they ran with the Offense...great job guys!
That's what it's all about, "TEAM". Good job.

Un-Signed talent in SETX for 2012
Jacob Howell a Jr. 2011-2012, p/ inf he played for Deweyville ,don't have any stats. I know that he is playing for the Houston this summer, also he has a try- out for area code baseball in June.
I see where Jacob signed with the Lamar Cardinals, congrats and well deserved. -
Howell is a very good pitcher and the McHenry kid is good as well. Deweyville will have two good guys for sure to go through district play. Kountze will have two Soph. pitchers left and right...Franklin being the rt. and Marshall being the lt. Both these guys are 85 mph or better and that was taken by Perfect Game at East Cobb so that is not inflated. Kountze and Deweyville should be a great match up!
I agree. usually is when these two hookup lately. Should be another really close, competitive District race.
-
The Pirates will definately be in the hunt for a playoff spot, returning a good number of starters (7)and (2) Pitchers, one being Jacob Howell. Hardin and EC should also be in the hunt.
It's tough being a Warrior fan...but a fresh start always brings new hope that our program will turn the corner and be competitive...This is a tough district but like always we'll show up and support our boys! Good Luck to the Warriors and Coaches!!
Well said, a good bunch of kids that play hard and never quit. Good luck this year. -
HD 55 took his ball and went home. So here is a thread for folks to post on about winning traditions. Maybe there will not be any comparisons of Hull-Daisetta and Odessa Permian in this thread. ;) ;D
;D ;D
I didn't realize that I would cause so much dismay in placing the previews in their own forum. I didn't think so as this is the practice that I have maintained since I started doing the previews in 2009 and in looking at the archives, it has been the practice since 2007 for the SETXsports Football Previews. Why has it been done that way? Because this is to make sure that anyone who wants to see them can without the worry of them being buried by other threads in the football forum. For those that don't wish to navigate to the forum, I have placed the links to the threads in this forum and plan to update that on a daily basis. Please believe me when I am not seeking to play hide and go seek with these previews. I wouldn't bug the coaches to get the info if I were going to do that.
I had no problems getting to the previews, I like them where they are. -

Think we are def going to b a force, btw so do i think your pirates will be as well. btw whew thats alo drive from Sa to deweyville!!
Yes its a very looonnnnnnngggg drive, lol. Look forward to following the Wolves this year and I will definately make a playoff game or two for sure, good luck. The Pirates are looking good, if we can avoid the injury bug I believe we should compete very well this year. -

2012 San Augustine Wolves Team Preview

Wolves are loaded, they are gonna be tough too handle this year. -

Mark my words (and I'll be the first one to eat crow if I'm wrong), but barring multiple injuries, Hull-Daisetta will dominate their district and their schedule as a whole this season. I see every game on the schedule this season as a winnable game.
I got your words marked, cause if HD wins district, that means they get a bye then all likely hood play the #2 seed out of district 10 , which will either be Alto or San Augustine.
Ouch! that is a unlucky draw to play either of those teams for your 1st playoff game.

So which 3 bobcats will be signing D1 scholarships.
I never said anything like that. What I said was that other than those 3 DI guys, there wasn't alot of other talent when he got to Maud. Plus those three kids weren't Division I players until Finney got there. Through his off-season program, strength and conditioning, and winning playoff games put those guys on the map. If not for that, they could have easily just been three more big kids that play 1A ball that coaches think can't compete at a D1 level. There was another poster on this board from Teague who mentioned that his son didn't even play football until his senior year when Coach Finney motivated him to play. He's now playing college football. There may only be 1 kid on HD's team who has D1 talent, but that doesn't mean they can't outplay teams that have 3 of those players. Not to mention, there's a big difference in a team that has Burns, House, and Dunbar playing O/D line, and a team that has Traylon Shead and Malcome Kennedy in the backfield like Cayuga had a few years ago. HD will average about 230lbs across the front five with good depth at offensive/defensive line, three or four 6' 200lb tweener TE/LB type plyerers, and four or five skilled running backs. That makes for a good team with the right coaching and motivation in place at the 1A level.
Size, enthusiasm and numbers are a good start, however, you still have to have players with skill and talent.
