1. That may have been good on the basketball side but they couldn't have turned their backs on TJ' s football past.  Not near as evident as Lincoln bball but still a big part of that community.
2. Hence, built in pride and a desire to be good enough to play on that team.
3. It was asked what is the difference between PA Memorial, Silsbee, HJ, and Yates. One thought that I didn't mention is school pride.  Silsbee and HJ have had success on the court for years and their alummni and towns take pride in that.  That is passed on to their children.  Some of the success stems from that pride and wanting to continue the success.  Lincoln and Hebert had built that in their programs.  Ozen started off at a level comparable to Hebert and quickly gained some of that pride.  Memorial didn't start off as strong and lost some of that from the start.
4. Congratulations on a great win HF.  What was the difference in the first half and the second?
5. Throw Yates out of the equation, they end up getting too many "move ins",  and I don't think there is much of a difference in these communities that you didn't hit on.  Especially in the type of community and type of kids.  To me that boils down to the parents and how they push, although that word could be taken as too strong, their kids.  Sour Lake and Silsbee are small rural communities where a lot of parents take on those values and get their kids more involved in little dribblers etc.  Some of these larger communities seem to kind of push all that aside and let kids do whatever the other kids are doing.  Big cities aree always going to have some talent and a school such as Yates always seems to end up with a lot of it.  You let some of those who would be the talented, in some of these smaller communities, slip through the cracks and you don't have many to replace them with.
6. I think what has happened to PA basketball is the same thing that has happened elsewhere.  It starts with discipline. Which starts at home. Kids today in general aren't the same as they were 15 or 20 years ago for many reasons.  A lot of which is because parenting today isn't the same as it was back then. Kids, not all but a good portion, lack the discipline that was installed by our parents in the past. You didn't walk of the court and change clothes and sit in the stands, quitting in the middle of a game.  You didn't hear of a lot of players getting kicked off the team for discipline or just not playing because of it.  In PA's case, you had James Gamble whose name, along with Fred Williams, already earned respect.  Lots of these kids today show no respect at all for their coaches.  You can see where that trait comes from by listening to parents at games and even seeing some of their comments on sites such as this one.  Sure criticism of coaches has always been around but wasn't as readily available for the players to see as it is now.  And speaking of sites, that leads to computers and video games.  Many kids spend all their free time today playing with electronics rather than on the courts of the playgrounds or backyards.

8. I would agree with those numbers being good. I might not have expected it to be quite that high though. I knoe us fans and coaches always want more.
9.
[Hidden Content]
Those numbers arent a good reference here. Those are the elite. I am talking about high schools more so a good high school team, not a great one and not one of those pitiful ones either.
10. I will say I would love to see the 75% the Tigers shot tonight be a regular stat.  And the 3's weren't too bad either.
11. Definitely.... ;D. But in all honesty this wasn't directed towards HJ it was just some of the comments that had me thinking about the subject.  I really haven't paid attention to that percentage other than ours except  a rare occasion.
12. I know a lot was made of the poor free throw shooting HJ had in the loss to the Tigers.  Tonight in WOS they shot 58%.  I saw another comment about not shooting them well tonight.  I know as fans we feel that way in many games.  But I haven't really paid a lot of attention to the percentages of many schools.  What is considered a decent percentage for a good high school team.  My thinking has been that it wouldn't be a whole lot better than that 58% just because you are dealing with high school kids. Granted you could see some good percentages for individuals and the percentages could be skewed on some teams by a few players more involved in the game and therefore shooting more free throws.

14. After the world was shocked by their loss to a grosly inferior Tiger team, the Hawks will be out to proove that noone in the district belongs in the same gym much less on the floor with the hawks. They will win by 30+!
15.
I don't see anyone in district going undefeated.
Thats really putting yourself out on a limb.  Seeing as the Tigers and HF are the only ones with that possibility and noone thinks HF has a chance to run the table with for games remaining against the Tigers and Hawks.
16.
Silsbee 3 point shooting has been bad all years. With this many guards and no real size, they need to hit some of these to win playoff games.
I would say more streaky than bad. some decent games, some good, and some bad.
17. Glad we hit our 3's last friday because it seemed like we were 2 for 50 tonight...wow i was just putting this up while the stats were posted now I see 1 for 17 not good...

19. Actually at this time of year ask coaches, I bet they would rather be 1-0! ;D

21. I was a little concerned about the validity of the Navasota-Bowie and Bowie LaVega scores(seeing as they originally came from maxpreps) but they are also on the Austin Statesman website under Bowies scores both listed with boxscores.  Navasotas paper showed the 64-28 loss but listed it as Austin Crockett. ALthough when looking at scores on the statesmans site you have to be careful.  While looking at LaVegas they had several losses when you click on the score the boxscore adds the year to the date and they go back as far as 2009.
22. A lot of talk on the last shot being a good shot or a lucky shot,  I will say this.  It is a lot of luck but a better shooter will need a lot less luck than a not so good shooter.  And as far as not practicing it, well from listening to Rob on the replay he said it was shot from the Tiger head.  They can't truly practice that shot in that situation but I have seen these players at halftime of the jv game and other just shoot arounds shooting from those emblems.  That helps that luck factor a little too.  A little skill plus a good bit of luck and Zayon ended up being the hero.
Maybe so.  Or maybe they would've stalled out the clock.  Anyway, Silsbee won.  I was wrong, I'm shocked by the loss, and I'm sure the HJ players will do all they can to give Silsbee a better run in-- hey, my man Nash, how many hours?
Next game will be different and hopefully just as good..and if they would have stalled the Tigers would have fouled and.........
