Teams involved are HJ, Ozen, Kountze, Shepard and Goodrich.
HJ stands no chance!
Only if all 5 teams are on the floor at once and they combine the scores of the other 4. -

Haven't ya'll ever "stomped" your feet in anger!! ;D -
I would agree ST413.........are you implying that Nederland does not have any talent?? If so, you are sadly mistaken!!! They have been very talented for the last 4-5 years!!!
No not at all, they have been good recently.

It all turned around about 9 years ago when he and a few others started a little dribblers program in Nederland. As long as he is our head coach, we will continue to be competitive, and that will keep us active on this board. As I've said before, I don't expect Nederland to win district this season (as I expected them to win last year), but it will not surprise me if they win district again. With their 7th, 8th, 9th, JV, and Varsity teams all winning district last year, I expect Nederland will be very competitive for years to come...
HonestAbe, can't agree with you more about Brian English. I believe my Pirates would still be a force if he would have stayed. I still get sick at my stomach.....as long as he's in Nederland, you will be a power in basketball. Best coach in the area and a great man. We miss him terribly. I honestly believe he could coach at the next level; perhaps Lamar should give him a chance given the clowns they've been through in the last couple of decades.
Great man?? Yes!!! Best coach in the area??? No, but he is VERY good!!!! And not far behind the best coaches in the area. Got to get some hardware before you can be the best!!!!
a good I don't know if that is necessarily the case. A Coach who takes very poor talent and gets the best possible results could definately be better than a good coach taking a talented team all the way. Not stating a case for anyone but hardware isn't always the best measurement.

My point is both being the largest schools in districts where the bottom three teams have been very weak the last four years, the chances of them not meeting were very very small.
-
Strange, how is it strange. The two largest schools in their districts, where the large schools meet in one division of the playoffs. Both schools coming from districts where the bottom three teams are pretty set in place for the last few years.

The closest you can come is a district champion in Kashmere, who won a district definitely not known for its football powerhouses.
Kashmere is actually a pretty good team they are a 4a district champion (yes it is a weak district) and gave 3a #7 west Columbia all they wanted and more. Name a good win for silsbee?
You just stated what I have bben saying for weeks, neither team has a win over good team. So from that standpoint there is no comparing. You can't convince me Kashmere is that good of a team. Coldsprings was probably the Falcon's best game of the year definitely best opponent. As far as how good Newton is, that has to be proven as well but they are definitely off to a good start with a new coach and an 8-2 record.
I believe the score was 54-35. Also that was a 5-5 Huffman team that got lucky to get into the playoffs vs a Silsbee team that was district champs. This will be a good game and both team will be ready to play. Good luck to all.
You are correct. The Tigers were up 40-14 at one time and 47-22 before the Falcons made a comeback.
-
There would probably be more interest shown in/by other local teams if they had had the same level of success as these two have had recently. Especially if there were two more local teams in the same district at that level. So all of you other local teams take that as a challenge!! Then we will talk about you. 8)
Ya trying to decide if I want to go to Big Bend and watch etbu and Sul Ross or stay here for this? Hmm Ya yall had a good team when JJ was there but LUCKY they beat Huffman that game and with one first down yall would have been toast. We had three different chances to put that game away and DID NOT. CHOKE on our part and had a kid that played DE for Huffman
Was that his sr year or junior year, I know one was close I thought that was the jr year. I thought his sr year we won a little easier.
-
Best chance to have gone deeper than second round recently would have been JJ's senior year when we lost to Navasota by 1. Would have faced a very tough Gilmer team in the next round that beat Navasota by a TD.
-
Recent history not very deep for the Tigers. I believe you have to go back to the 4A years for much of a run. Go way back and there was a state semi I believe could have been regional finals. We did go to a regional semi and faced LaMarque a few years back.
Truth be know either of these districts arenot that strong compared to rest of the state. Only team that could play with anyone would be CS and maybe WOS. If you put these teams in central or east texas would get drove. Nothing wrong with that but best football is the above areas. South Texas is even worse than these areas. Just my take.
No argument here. Not sure you could put WOS up there this year. Hopeully they will prove themselves in the playoffs.

Only point I might not agree with is Huffman taking car of us, dont know how I think that one will end up. I had started a thread earlier this year trying to compare the two districts. Our best solution to that will come this weekend. Looking at the schedules and results is not a good comparison this year at all. Even in trying. to compare my G tigers and Huffman, Huffman played two strong teams in KP and CS with a good showing against CS. Rest of schedule was pretty weak. The Tigers best win was probably Newton maybe Jasper, early.in the season. Had a goodgame with BC and not too bad a game against WOS. Still not too sure how strong either of them are. I do know the tigers need to fix some recent problems and play like earlier in the year or saturday will end the season. Go Tigers!
-
Exactly neither team has dominated. The Tigers have had decent head to head success the last 3 years but a 9-6 record is far from dominating.
-
Coming in third behind CS and Huffman doesnt make you weak but coming in third ahead of Liberty, Tarkington and Splendora sure didn't make you strong!
Personally, I am looking forward to the matchups Silsbee will have in the three tourneys they play in. (YMBL, Nederland and Sherman tourneys). Silsbee vs. HJ..... eh, been there, done that. ::) Besides, Silsbee has won 7 of the last 9 games against HJ, starting to get too one-sided to get excited about that matchup. ;) ;D
Just hoping Silsbee's regular season dominance continues while HJ's post-season performance continues to exceeds Silsbees.
I am hoping Silsbees regular season dominance does not continue and Hjs post -season performance continues except with two more victories.
Well I only posted that because HJ's regular season performance against Silsbee is being questioned and that HJ has continually outperformed Silsbee in the postseason.
I think I would have to question that "continually" at least in the recent past. Since we have both been in 3A HJ has one state title, of course but other than that the results have been fairly equal granted the Tigers had a let down last year.
I would agree to most of that,( let down last year and in 09) but I don't think that it as lopsided as one moderator would like everyone to think....both teams know when they play it isn't a walk in the park....It's funny how some people try to give a certain slant to it that doesn't tell the whole story....keep it up you are getting close to a job in journalism...or maybe stand up comedian...
One of those Tiger letdowns is evened out by the year WOS went to state beating the Tigers I'm the regional with the Hawks nowhere to be found.
Now thats a low blow...but its realy no secret that this is going to be a real good year for HJ with all the size and Prudhomme. Only question some will have will be point guard after losing Gus.

The Tigers seem to have lost their mojo since losing to Bridge City. We aren't controlling the line of scrimmage. If we don't snap out of it, the playoffs won't last long.
