I would like to remind you all thinking silsbee will be the real test for lumberton, that HF beat that talented Silsbee team 35-14 last year at Silsbee. And I promise HF has more returning players than Silsbee. So dont over look the horns. And the number of A's has nothing to do with the quality of teams. EC could of played with all three last year.

Who Is The Most Feared Team In SETX!!!
fisherking replied to ozens fastest@1906's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Has that team played WB, WO-S, Nederland, Central, Dayton, Memorial or any of the other teams on the list? My school, WO-S, shared three opponents with EC last year - HJ, HF and Orangefield. EC beat HJ by 1 point. WO-S beat them by 62. EC beat HF by 3. WO-S beat them by 54. EC beat OF by 12. WO-S beat them by 27. I just don't see EC as a contender for the "most feared" team in SETX, because they don't play any of the other contenders. They certainly do well in the games that they do play, but it's hard for a team from one of the smallest two classes to be the "most feared." WO-S has been fortunate enough to play the role of both giant and giant killer. Man where are you getting your numbers from????? EC beat HF by 14 (33-19) and WOS beat HF by 27 (34-7). Ec beat HJ by 30+ Old thread Some may say im biased, but ill go with WOS Some local teams in higher classifications dont even want to play WOS. AHHHHHH! Gotcha, thanks! -

Parsons actually will be credited with all 7 innings tonight but didn't get the loss, it went to kid that started the game and saw only 4 hitters and got no outs, then was pulled for Parsons who went the rest of the way, making it all 7 innings, tonight. HF played well and grabbed huge lead and then hung on. Bronson was 3-5 with 2 jacks tonight. Great win for the Horns. -
Congratulations to the HF Lady Longhorns - the 2008 21-AAA District Champions running away with it. great job ladies, good luck in regionals.

weight training during baseball season
fisherking replied to strike-out's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
elhector how is your football team where your at? What about your basketball team, track? How are they doing? Can someone on here tell me what the argument is??? The original post was baseball kids that play football having to on non game days lifting weights twice a week. And how everyone feels? Strike-out can you tell me what a "powerlifting" workout means ???? Unless I am wrong you are saying that your school weighting workouts are only the bench press, squat, and deadlift? Is this correct? Because man that staff needs to be fired if this is true!!! Does no one on here feel weights are important in every sport including baseball?? How can being stronger not make you a better baseball player?? Can someone on here tell me why Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds are going to jail for perjury. Was it taking steroids and not lifting wieghts after taking them?? Wasn't Jose Canseco a 50-50 club member, so it doesn't look like he slowed down any by bulking up. I need all you "experts" on here to please educate me on all your research and knowledge in the subject of strength training and please inlcude your credentials because I want to know all the facts for my kids future uses when they get to high school age. Give us all a break and come into the 21st century. You should just demand that your football coach make ALL ATHLETES not just football players lift "at least twice a week" if not more, maybe you son or daugther would be faster and a better baseball player. Quit whining and do more research into the LATEST knowledge about the importance of strength training year-round to all sports. I tell you what why don't you just call the strength and conditioning coaches at a couple of major universities and see what they have baseball players doing during the season, and off season. I promise they are ALL lifting throughout the year, pichers included! Check out NOLAN RYAN's writings about liftingand workouts, especially right after games. Read about Michael Jordan's lifting workouts on game day! And the UIL does prohibit coaches from mandating offseason workouts on game days! -

How do you know there has been no discipline handed down for the actions of this player? Have you asked or are you assuming because you haven't seen it? What do you mean by style? vs. basics?? And I too suggest if you have a problem with coaching you go ask the questions to the coach you have, maybe you can help?? Probably not but heck who knows, but it won't help discussing it on this forum and criticizing people without giving them a chance to respond to your feelings!! -

Dear HF Softball Mom or mooch: Can you please translate to me where you stand on this issue? You are really wishy-washy and walking the fence on which side you are on? And more importantly can you explain to me how this situation has anything to do with coaching???? To this point anyway?? Now after the players get back and how it will be handled you have an argument but how can you prepare for this any more than playing certain back-up people in certain games before this week but then you take a chance of losing those games? Just asking because you seem to have an axe to grind with the coach? -

Great post! If you know the Sain family, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that's more committed to family. This trip was planned well in advance with all concerned parties knowing about it for a long time. Almost every man on this forum got into softball to spend time with their daughters doing something they both love...softball. Family vacations fall into that same category...time spent together. It's a lucky man that can look back on his life WITHOUT saying "I wish I had spent more time with my family instead of...". Mike Sain is one step closer than a lot of men to taking that phrase out of his vocabulary. Good luck to H-F! I've become a big fan of this program. I guess we have reached a point that the topic is getting worn out??? I will just add one last comment and then let it go: The word " fault" is a poor word to use in this situation because it lays blame for something bad that has happened. So let's change it to "the thought process of this decision to miss two district games at this point in the season," with that said I hope it takes the defensiveness out of other posters and the young lady that posted on here that plays for this team. No one is placing blame on anyone, well, except MOOCH, who feels it should be blamed on politicians and coaches, which I have no idea how she could feel this way and where the mayor got into this argument? No one is at fault for anything here, it is a matter of choices. Life is made up of choices, and you must live with them good or bad! Therefore, if the parties involved, the players and THEIR parents, their teammates, and their coaches at HF, and no one else, are ok with what has taken place and the decision as it was made, then that is all that matters, and good luck to all of you the rest of the season. I would want my kids to understand they cannot satisfy their personal needs and desires at the expense of other people depending on them or their abilities. I want to say again no one is at fault here especially not the girls themselves but the lessons taught them was not about commitment to family but instead it was satisfying individual desires and wants even if it means disappointing friends and teammates in the process. I definitely can see this as an issue of priorities, plain and simple!!!! And the priority numero ono in this case was definitely a planned vacation and "quality" family time. And the distant second priority in the lives of these individuals was the success of the HF softball team and the other team members. Does anyone disagree with this? My only statement was the ramifications of any decision in life such as this has many more effects on so many more people and so many other things that sometimes can not be seen before the decision is carried out. I feel (my opinion only) that as a parent our job is to train our kids to make good choices and decisions and live with them so they can grow up and be better members of society. I feel you have commitments broken either way in this situation but I as a parent would find another way to spend quality time with my kids for this entire week while school is out without taking them out of state and still allow my kids to fulfill their commitments to their teammates and their coaches at the same time. Why does family time mean out of state skiing trips, why not just do things together in the area everyday the entire week? If what your saying is family is first, then make it family first and spend time together but why effect so many others in the process. I know game schedules are posted early enough to plan around. I am sorry if I offend anyone but I just feel the point here is being missed, and the lessons to be learned are being over shadowed with emotions. If these kids are placed right back in the line-up then you might as well make all games and practices voluntary with no punishment or comments about missing practice or games by players for any reason. If a softball team winning or losing is a minor priority then who cares, stick them back in the line-up and move on. If commitment and dedication are not important or not a part of this programs motto, then no one should be punished for missing practice or games for any reason. Heck just make all games and practices voluntary!!!! Who decides what is important and what isn't??? I know I want my kids to learn they can't just come and go when they want in there future jobs, and that everything they do effects others. this is what athletics are about, not winning or losing but the lessons we learn from them about being quality citizens of society. Good luck to the team and the players on the rest of the season, I really hope you can win the rest of your games, but then again, this would cloud up the the overall effect and lesson to be learned by the choices that were ultimately made?? Did they have an effect on the team??? Who knows?? No one knows if they would have won if they were there or if the outcome would have been different, no one can speculate on this, we will never know. The main thing is what happens from this point on and the lessons to be taught and learned. -

I am sorry you can't see things in its true colors, but I respect your opinion. I promise nothing gets in the way of my family, but I also know my family has behind me 100% as well, meaning total support in all that I do and will do. I guess I grew up in different times then now because I know my parents never did or never would have scheduled a trip in the middle of a season because they knew I would have been destroyed to choose to stay behind a play. So again it is the way my parents raised me and the life I chose no regrets, no remorse. No one on here that I have read has said anything about the beginning of the end. On the contrary, the hope has been the opposite for these ladies. But I know they weren't play in games but it seems to me two losses puts you back under the gun after fighting to take the lead, meaning you have no room for slip up the remainder of the season. And as far as the team and the residual effect if any??? Only time will tell, I hope for the girls sake they can pull it together but we will have to wait and see the end result. I would welcome back star players after two losses but while they are gone I would be cussing them like a sailor, this if I was playing in before and after, but what about the girls that played in their place and now go back to the bench or the JV, how do they feel when the two get back??? -

No neither #1 OR #2 are fair. Commitment is not a part-time thing! Dedication means improving your skills and your team all the time, year-round. And I feel players that are missing practices, or not improving their game constantly in season or out of season for various reasons are hurting the team as well no matter there position or role. Multi-sport kids are committed to competing year round, hopefully for their school, therefore, I feel they are assisting their teammates of that sport until it is over. If they are good enough to play other sports and choose not to, then they would be hurting there school and their team. I find it hard to believe you are comparing this to vacationing during the season? A good player doesn't become such without extreme work ethic and dedication. Their innate competitive drive pushes them to compete year-round, this is how they become the best players, but with this comes the responsibility of being the best player on a team and when they put their personal interests in front of the teams interests they are selfish, as the players not committed the other 8 months are selfish, but do two wrongs make a right????? -

I really don't think anyone is questioning the personal choice of a child or her parents. That is a given!! But I agree with the other posters on here that are questioning the timing and the selfishness of this timing. I fell that there is plenty of other opportunities to travel on vacation but you have only 4 years of your life to experience high school life including sports. You made a commitment to a team cause and anything that interferes with this commitment should be avoided. You summer ball coaches remember what your saying if one of your players decided to go on vacation during national tournament week?? I am sure you would feel the same way and probably think twice about asking that player onto your team next year. But in high school ball you do not have this choice, you play with the players you have no recruiting. What if 6 of the team members decided to go on "spring break" what then? You forfiet the games?? Do you still feel the decision is justified? It has to with playing for the good of the group or yourself, no way this can be viewed as acceptable or a way you can coach through!! I have never seen this team or this player but if she is as good as you say, she can not be replaced by choice without a big drop off!! An injury or something else takes her out involuntary you have to do your best but this bad for a team especially during district play. Parents are sending the wrong message to these kids about commitment, maybe they aren't committed to HS team as they are to summer ball? What about X-Mas break to go skiing, Mc??
