gotta throw sam cummings from shepherd in the mix...i dont know her record but i know her era was like .78 or something like that...shepherd and barbers hill would probably still be playing that game if it werent for the error
-
shepherd @ jasper 5 6 no one expected shepherd to be able to go 8 innings with jasper much less more then 5... shepherd @ kirbyville 0 1 great pitching duel between hubbard and hazlewood...this game was do or die as far as making the playoffs were concerned... shepherd @ silsbee 4 5 shepherd led through 5 and lost the lead in the bottom of the 6th...silsbee suicide squeeze gives them the lead...

16 one run losses all year

even though their season didnt end the way they wanted it to i just wanted to congratulate the guys for one heck of a season...you guys played and fought hard all the way and you cant ask for more then that... now i honestly think that they are the best team sitting at home right now...and yes they are sitting at home but lets think about it...they had three 1-run losses in district play (5-6 8 innings @ jasper, 4-5 @ silsbee, and 0-1 @ kirbyville)...all three of those games were amazing ball games but not once this year could the pirates get a bounce their way...but hey guys you fought hard and gave em a run for their money...no one expected that from you so CONGRATULATIONS!!!
-
yall hit the ball like that and i will agree with you...yall crushed the ball...maybe we should have pitched hubbard
-
thank you...and yea well were ready for him
-
do you happen to know who pitched for kirbyville?
-
ok well this district is now pretty much a four horse race...Silsbee(6-0) Jasper(5-1) Kirbyville(4-2) and Shepherd(2-4)...yes i know it looks as if shepherd has no chance but lets look at this for a second...they play buna and if the win will be(3-4)...kirbyville plays jasper and a loss would drop them to (4-3)...the following day these two play...shepherd wins they both are (4-4) a shepherd loss and they are done...if they both go 9(4-4) and finish in a tie there would be a playoff for the playoffs(pretty sure anyways)...so which team do yall thinks get left out of the playoffs? im gonna say shepherd makes it and kirbyville is left at home...shepherd has been playing great ball of late(6-5 loss to jasper and 5-4 loss to silsbee, in both games they had one inning that lost them the game) and didnt show up till the 6th inning the last time these two played and almost pulled out the victory...so i think shepherd shows up for 7 innings this go round and takes down KVILLE...
-
yea shepherd has lost to the silsbee and jasper both by 1 run and probably should have won both of them...but hey they arent out of the playoffs yet
-
MIF04 im sorry buddy put the whole equation (Talent + Hardword=Great Success) isnt so true...just go ask every football player in shepherd, texas...they have talent and they bust their butts in the weight room and on the practice field year around but they have yet to make the playoffs because they have had the luxury of playing jasper silsbee and kirbyville...so yes i know this is off the baseball subject but i just thought i would throw this in there...
-
shepherd's hubbard at 2nd base aint to shabby...made 2 errors all of district and has over a .500 on base percentage in the leadoff spot for the pirates...
-
shepherd should have won this one...left 9 batters in scoring position on base...but hey thats how things go...good luck to the tigers the rest of the way
-
this was one heck of a baseball game folks...even though things happen the way they did shepherd should have won this game in seven for 2 reasons...1st Hubbards double in the top of the 1st is gone on any other field in the state except jaspers...it hit about two feet from the top in left field...if he scores there they have 6 runs through 7 and not 5...2nd in the 2nd innings shepherd made two errors back to back with one out that would hav got them out of the inning with no runs scored...however things happent the way they do and thats that...i think shepherd showed tonight to the rest of the district that they are the real deal and that they are no longer a push over...i looked for them to continue playing like this and go 5-1 or 6-0 the rest of district play...and one more thing i would like to give props to Coach Mixon at jasper for his pitching change when he brought in parsons after alvis...the shepherd hitters just couldnt adjust to the slow pitching from the lefty after the hard stuff from alvis...i think that is what won the game for jasper...if alvis stayed shepherd had a bead on him and would have been able to get another run or two across in the last inning... good luck to the dogs the rest of the way...and great game pirates...keep your heads up...you play like that and you will make the playoffs with no questions asked
-
Kirbyville travels to Shepherd tuesday with playoffs already on the line...shepherd is coming off a win vs buna and kirbyville is coming of a ten run loss to jasper...big game for both of these considering loser will be in a hole at 1-2... im takin shepherd in this one 7-5

silsbee 0 0 0 0 1 5 6 shepherd 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 shepherd made 3 or 4 errors in the top of the 6th to pretty much seal the deal for silsbee...schooling(#17) only allowed 3 hits but his defense made some spectacular plays to keep shepherd scoreless...
