  1. WOS fans know "that" win back in 7th grade has fueled some BC players and fans into thinking they can repeat that. I'm glad "that" is the source of your hope. Dubois has a history of not having a passing game. Two or three attempts per contest does not define having one. When they have thrown the ball (Dubois teams), they have not looked good doing it. If BC does have a passing attack, there is good reason not to hide in in this game. It would be fun to see a Brett Favre come out of the Cardinal's nest. Please...show us what you got. This ain't middle school anymore.
  2. He told me he would be playing the next game. This year's defensive front is the WO-S version of the "Steel Curtain".
  3. Haven't you heard? WOS Grad is a synonym for "Warden Of Speech" Grad. BTW...Thin Lizzy was one of the most under-appreciated classic rock bands ever. The "Jailbreak", "China Town", and "Renegade" albums are very good.
  4. ..."thread" is shut down?
  5. I thought the practice field was named in Breedlove's honor. If that's the case, why does is show on the stadium scoreboard? Breedlove never coached varsity football at WO-S. Most of his years were spent at the middle school. There are other ways to honor a longtime coach who did not have a part in varsity football, but a few people in the community made a big deal about doing it this way and now we have this sign.
  6. EXCELLENT closing remarks in the AP/Thompson thread. I loved it!

Cougar 14.2 is almost as irritating as Buddy Garrity. But, he has about 50,000+ more posts to go before he reaches that (dis)honor.

I hope you're enjoying my "warden" nickname. I always have appreciated your work and influence here. I just had to enjoy a little fun at your expense for the all the recent thread clsongs. Keep doing what you're doing. It's making me come back more often than last year. The more I ignore BG, the easier it is to hang around.

    1. WOSgrad

      WOSgrad

I knew the nickname is all in fun, but quite frankly I am beginning to kind of enjoy it.  I was ranting with Mike Sanchez this weekend that the site seems to becoming less like a message board and more like a freaking kindergarten.  I intend to do all I can to remedy that even though the horse may already by out of the barn.

    2. WOSgrad

      WOSgrad

oops, I mean be out of the barn.  My typing has been crappy lately!

  7. True. 'Sorry I got distracted. I think I hear the warden (WOSGrad) walking down the corridor ringing his keys.
  8. Well, you're off to a good start losing to a team with talent. We all know those rankings are super accurate and always give the complete story. I know what I saw on film when Crosby scrimmaged Nederland. Crosby doesn't have too much to boast about. At least you can look forward to beating the powerhouse teams of CE King, Porter, Kingwood Park, Galena Park, Humble, and Barber's Hill in district. That should really solidify that ranking that you're proud of.
  9. Interesting. WO-S played only one good team last year. Thanks for that "west of the Trinity" perspective. Well, we offered to play a team with talent...Crosby...at least you think they have talent. But, after watching their scrimmage with Nederland, well...
  10. Your post about the Coach T/Adrian Peterson subject is one the best I've ever read here. Nice work. It made me smile. Everything you said was true.

  11. I don't know why you want to keep pointing to the Foster game. Foster has 2300 students to WO-S's 600. They had 74 players on their sidelines and we had 35 or so. There is no dishonor in admitting Foster was better than WO-S. I think WO-S could have made it a closer game, but the Mustangs did not play up to their ability that night. Even if they played their best, Foster still would have won. They had more size and were equal in speed at the skill positions. The true WO-S fans who saw the game understand this and believe the better team won that game. End of story. What's the big deal? Why did Crosby decline to play WO-S more than once in the last two seasons? Why was Crosby weak in their scrimmage against Nederland? You and your team have bigger issues.
  12. I don't buy this. You were looking for a spat. Any potshots you have implied toward Coach Thompson is not a big deal, but the part that irks me is your dishonesty in claiming objectivity. That is the bigger motivation behind my response to you.
  13. This was no surprise...another shot from Cougar14.2. What is it with a few of you envious knuckleheads west of the Trinity? I would have enjoyed a WO-S/Crosby matchup, especially after watching your scrimmage against Nederland. Too bad the growing rural-metropolis Crosby HS has turned down the offer to play the little ole school from Orange.
  14. All you have to do is ask Kevin Smith, who played for multiple Super Bowl champions in Dallas and college ball at Texas A&M. He has said many times that of all the years he played football, he never endured practices as hard as the ones at WO-S.
  15. Harrell is not one of them. I'm speaking of two coaches on the WO-S staff right now who just joined this year.
  16. We have two new coaches on the WO-S staff this year. One is from a local setx school. Both of them have said that if their former schools ran practices the way WO-S does, half the team would quit. That's what I meant by Palestine being "soft". WO-S did not develop a reputation for being a very physical team by coincidence. We play the way we practice.
  17. Nah, you came out swinging and made it sound personal, so I responded in kind. You were looking for an exchange with someone. You admitted it. You tried to make this into something like I'm making excuses for his record in Palestine. His record there doesn't bother me. One year is not time enough to build a program. The fact that I know him does not mean I think he's perfect. I haven't agreed with his decisions 100% of the time over his career, but his results speak for themselves. He's not an angel...just very good at what he does and with a successful track record to show for it. It shows in the kind of defenses he's lead (while DC), his state championship last year, and the many players who have become good men in large part for being under his mentorship. They come back to visit and thank him all the time. He has stacks of letters from former players who expressed appreciation. When a professional has methods that breed success, you tend to believe in what they are doing. That is how I view Coach Thompson. I would see it the same way even if I didn't know him. Yeah...your comments sound really objective. Lol. Give it a rest.
  18. Trufan, you are full of bitterness. It sounds like you have an ax to grind. Are you a former player would couldn't make it in his program or someone who just doesn't like WO-S? It's one of the two. He was only at Palestine ONE season. I said nothing about his record there. You did. Not every situation is a good one. Just know this...I know Cornel Thompson personally. I know what he dealt with up there in Palestine. You don't. The program is not committed to do what a PROVEN WINNER (Thompson) knows would make Palestine a winner, as well. You might be willing to have a pushover coach in your community, but Thompson will not subject himself to that. WO-S did not become an overnight success. NO, not anyone can win there. We saw what happened in the three years when Thompson left. Our off season weight program became non-existent, the defense got weaker, and WO-S missed the playoffs. He was Dan Hooks right hand man. A coach like Thompson is not a dime a dozen. Lighten up, Frances.
  19. That is correct. The school did not allow Coach Thompson to run the program the way he was accustomed to doing things. The kids there were soft and did not want to work. Plus, the parents and community did not like all of the commitment that was called upon for them to be better and become a winner. So, Coach Thompson left for a better opportunity. Palestine was basically a one-man team when Peterson played there. A couple of years later, when Thompson returned to WO-S as DC, they met Palestine in a playoff game. WO-S won that game decisively. Palestine has barely sniffed the playoffs since that year. At the end of the Palestine/WO-S matchup, Coach Thompson went over to the Palestine sidelines to shake hands with the school principal. The principal refused. It was a bad place to coach football and Coach Thompson was smart to leave there.
  20. Yes, they find a way to revive and repeat themselves. Understood. I appreciate your work here. You know I do. Just having a little fun.
  21. Grad, you know I love you, man...but after you locked up those last two threads involving Nederland and WO-S (post game comments and "atmosphere" thread) and seeing that you've become a no nonsense thread prison guard, it is giving new meaning to your username. Warden Of Speech Grad... Lol. Keep up the good work, buddy.
  22. Are you related to the Mayfield that once played for Nederland until recently?
  23. I wish some of you would get off this WO-S vs. big school predictions. It's meaningless.
  24. I'm not sure what Nederland has in the kicking game, but WO-S is definitely improved in the PAT and kickoffs department.
  25. It will help us. The reason Coach Thompson likes scrimmaging Vidor is because we will see at least two district opponents who run the same offense and will likely see more of that in the playoffs. Vidor is always a good test.
