1. Is there a broadcast of this game we can listen to?
 2.
Here is a pic of me in the middle, left side is Rodenburg and right side #52 is Johnny Behannon our 155lb center. Our guys were fast and I believe what made us better in the post season was the turf. These guys were running 4.4's and 4.5's on a gravel track with clete's. When we hit that turf and out those turf shoes on, I think the quickness and speed jumped up a few notches. May be wrong but just my theory. [Hidden Content]
Nah...the dude I'm thinking of was a black guy.  He was about 5'7", but weighed about 250 lbs.  I know he told me he played center because I remember discussing the WO-S nose guard from my class who was lined up against him in our game.  Is there another offensive lineman that fits that description?  Maybe he was a backup?
 3.

These two scores tell me all I need to know about Stafford: Splendora  23 Stafford      21 Palacios    24 Stafford    14
who the heck is Palacios? some coastal team?
Why are you asking?  We thought you knew everything about Texas high school football teams.  Heck, I was waiting for the "I predicted Palacios to win that game" statement.  ;D
 4. Good post, Gas.  Let's not forget another...and MORE RECENT "Baylor vs. K-State" moment at WO-S.  It was just two years ago we lost to Brookshire Royal...the same BR that we manhandled the two previous years.  We had no business losing to that one-man team with no discipline.  Some of our current varsity players were on that squad and should still have a rotten taste in their mouths about that one.  If the 'Stangs can continue to bring the same intensity and focus for four quarters as they did against Cleveland, they will win Friday and beyond.  I like how our boys are playing with a chip on their shoulder.
 5. The one thing I remember most about Stafford was a few seasons back, they played Bridge City in a regular season game.  One of the Stafford players got into a fight with a coach on the sidelines during the game.  The police handcuffed him and brought him to jail.  The Yates team they beat last week was not a typical Yates team from their glory years.  They were a mediocre 3A team.  I think Silsbee contains that RB from Stafford and scores plenty.  Tigers by at least two TDs.  Count me as another WO-S fan rootin' for ya.  I may go watch this one.
 6. This thread should be recycled in August & September of 2013 to remind all those "scrimmage champs" how insignificant those practices are compared to a real game.
 7. Why do this now? A better time to gauge this would be at the end of the season.
 8.
I played on that team. QB Mark Guilbeaux ran about a 4.4 40. When we spread it out, he had the whole field. Melvin Turner a 6'4" TE, Willie Williams WR, Kieth Wycoff WR all ran about 4.5 40's. So many good recievers to cover and Guilbeaux was soo fast and could throw the ball 60-65 yards in the air, just too much. Also had Paul Jones, great speed, and Robert Kiel (also Defensive player of the year that year at MLB) at RB. Both power runners, not alot of juking. I was probably 2nd largest offensive line at 220. Our center Johnny Behannon was about 155 lbs and guards Mike Rodenberg and Dale Jenkins went about 170 lbs. Very small line but we were all benching around 300 lbs. Also goes to show you how good the district was that year. Finis Vanover is just a great motivator and defensive style coach. Very aggressive. I can stll hear coach Steve Shaver's speeches before each of those games. Just awesome all the way around. I remember an interview with coach Vanover on the news that year, he said "its easy to coach defense in the North End of Beaumont, the aggression is already there". Derrick Wilson DE, Thad Nobles at nose guard were both benching around 400 lbs. We had a reunion for that team back in 2009. We called all 3 news channels, none showed up. Coach Vanover stood up in front of us and even as adults he was able to make all of us want to go to war for him. I think its a dimeanor that only certain coaches have and to this day and I believe he is one of the best. He took a bunch of kids that had never been anywhere or done anything and he and coach Shaver made us Champions. It says Co-Champions, but it has never felt that way to me.
Can you clarify something about this?  I formerly worked with someone who told me he was the starting center on French's championship team (forgot his name, but I don't think it was Johnny).  This was back in the summer of '85 at the Weiner's store on Lucas.  He lived very close to the store.  He was about 5'7" and very broad.  He was certainly more than 155 lbs., and that was the part about your write up that didn't line up with what I remember.  Are you sure about the center?
 9.
That's great and all but Wo-s hasn't play a team like Navasota. No team on Wo-s schedule comes close to Navasota. I have seen highlights from every team that Wo-s has played. Those shout outs were against horrible teams.
Look, man...you can talk about how good the Navasota receivers are, and we can tell you how good our DBs can cover.  I know more than a little about your team's WRs.  I can tell you that neither team would have an advantage over the other.  It would be quite a battle.  WO-S has not played receivers as good as yours, and your receivers have not been challenged (your team has played a slate of weak teams, as well) like they would be against the WO-S secondary and 11 overall players with the swarming speed that we have.  Let's just leave it at that.  Remember...all this is just hot air.  Neither team has played each other, and IT MIGHT NOT EVEN HAPPEN.  Both teams would have to win three straight games just to have that chance.  Best wishes for you against China Spring.
 10.

45 to 7 Navasota has the best defense in the state hands down. They flat out upended Coldsprings earlier during the season.
Well, looky here.  A Navasota fan suddenly appearing to stir the pot.  Gets a little boring at the downlow, doesn't it?  Welcome to our "regional" chat.  I suggest you introduce yourself gradually rather than blowing a trumpet on your first thread.  Nothing against the Rattlers defense, but they certainly benefitted from Coldspring coughing up the football a few times.  I think they'll beat China Spring convincingly.  As for the state's best defense...we'll (hopefully) see about that in round four.  Best wishes against China Spring.  WO-S is looking forward to Cleveland this week.
I'm sure that Rattler Defense had something to do with Coldspring coughing up the ball.  And, you don't become a good team unless you make the other team pay for those turnovers.
No denying that, but the poster said Navasota has the best defense in the state and used the Coldspring game as his example.  I am familiar with Navasota's football program because of a friend who lives in there, knows Coach Fedora, has a son who played there and a wife who teaches in the district.  Every year we compare notes on each team.  We never thought our teams would possibly be on a collision course because Navasota has always played in D1 and WO-S always in D2.  As tempted as I am to talk about this possible matchup, I really want to wait and see how things play out in the brackets.  Upsets can and will happen almost every year.  Like I said earlier...both teams have to EARN their way.
 11. This thread is already turning into a Navasota vs. WO-S thread...unfortunately.  Both teams need to EARN the right to make it that far (4th round).  That's a whole month away and no guaratees it will even happen.  Right now, WO-S has their eyes fixed on Cleveland.  Let's see if both teams can take care of business with what's in front of them this week.  Thank goodness WO-S has a coaching staff that will see to it that Cleveland is the ONLY team they are focused on.

 14. ST14, I encourage you to have a broader view of WO-S fans.  It's easy to focus on a few trumpet blowers on this message board, but I know quite a few of by Mustang friends/alumni who scope this board and they do NOT brag and carry on with bold predictions and constant reminders of this year's accomplishments, etc., not even in private conversation.  Most of the WO-S fans here take the cautious optimistic approach to our chances in tonight's game.  We respect Silsbee and their ability on the field.  This is not Lou Holtz/Notre Dame speak...I mean it.  Personally, I'm tired of the shut-out talk.  It will not shock many of us if Silsbee scores and makes this a competitive game.  I can safely speak for the "quiet majority" of Mustang fans that we wish both teams an injury-free game and a deep run into the playoffs.
I love how the Tigers are not getting respect from a lot of the Mustangs fans. Victory will be that much sweeter for the Tigers friday night.
Not all WO-S fans feel the way as some of the postings here. I know I don't. I for one am very nervous about this game.
Ditto.  Silsbee has the respect of most WO-S fans.  I know the WO-S coaches ALWAYS take that approach and instill that in the team.
 16.
I also have heard Mr James is giving the WOS defense a greT scout team running back to go against. I hear he could be cleared by the first playoff game and at the latest. The 2nd round game.
jkb, you would be wise to follow AAW.  He's always at the front of the line checking on matters concerning WO-S.  ;)
 17.

Did C.James transfer back to WOS? I did not see him when we played Ozen a few weeks ago.
Yes he did.
From what I've heard, even the Mustangs defense have had trouble stopping him in practice. A good offense has just gotten a whole lot better.
Glad to hear this.
 18.
As a Coldspring fan, I would have liked to see Navasota go D1. But we still have play who is infront of us. We all know what happened in the 1st round last year (7-0 win against Bridge City). And WOS, you will not make it out of the region with all your D1 recruits. Navasota, La Marque, or Coldspring will take care of you.
WO-S fans appreciate your wishful thinking, as usual, this time of the year.  We'll concern ourselves with Silsbee first, then our first round opponent, which will not be any of the teams you named.  You seem to worry more about WO-S and a couple of bragging posters than you do your own team.  ::) Here's some news for you...this year's Coldspring team isn't last year's Coldspring team.  Several teams in this region are better than LCM...so be worried...be very very worried.  ;)
 19. I hope Silsbee scores on us.  We have to focus on 1) winning and 2) playing through adversity to make a playoff run.  The shut-out chatter is distracting for reaching the real goal.  Silsbee...please score early...and only once.  ;) WO-S...score at least twice.  That's all I ask.  ;D
 20. Anyone else having trouble receiving the audio feed?
 21. I wonder how many of those who frequent 3a down low have added themselves to the stats for this site. The downlow has become dull.  That site is less active overall.  Among those who post there, you see a higher percentage of youngsters who don't know much about other teams beyond their little corner of the state.  A regional focus on discussion topics draws more interest and makes better conversation.  This site has them beat easily.  Nice work, fellas.
 22.
amd YOUR team will do better?
Ole T-Dawd has been taking shots at WO-S and their fans for a while now.  Nothing new here. If WO-S gets another shot at Coldspring this year, I expect a battle from them.  With all of our defensive ability, games are won and lost on matchup issues.  If Coldspring brings the same kind of power left/power right blocking, and some explosiveness from their tailbacks, we will have our hands full.  I hope both teams have a chance to meet again.  As for now, let's beat Bridge City.
 23.
could care less about shutouts, rather the wins. I think, 33-3.
I could not agree more. All the "shutout" talk is something I wish would be reserved for the end of the season. It's been touted too much on this board. Just improve each week and win!
