1. Way to go, Tony!  Go make us proud.
 2.
What is going to be hilarious is watching Hooks at that first game this season. I bet my paycheck that he will have a bull horn and still yell at the refs. i will give him one quarter before he leaves the stands and gets on the field. :D Or, heck be in the pressbox with a headset on that coach Thompson can give to the refs after a questionable call. When youve done something for so long, how in the world can you just stop and be a spectator? This is going to be good. :D
That alone would be worth the price of admission.  I envision Hooks walking around the stands shaking hands and working the crowd at the first game.  MANY people will want to visit with him and he'll talk with all of them.
 3.
Some board members even held up one finger on one hand and two on the other when voting "yay" to approve Thompson, the same hand-sign players use to say "112 percent," the motto of quarterback Reggie Garrett, who died in September. He will continue to serve as defensive coordinator and will run the same 50-defense the school has run since 1977. On offense, Thompson will keep the spread offense and all of the terminology. The only change is that he wants to run the ball more. "We won't be in the wishbone or the stacked I or anything like that nature," Thompson said. "We have spread athletes now."Read more: [Hidden Content] Read more: [Hidden Content]
That put a smile on my face.  This is what I hoped for.
 4. Every year this thread starts way too early.
 5.
WOS ran the veer for several years after we won state. When our offensive line declined, so did our offense. We quit running it for a reason. I would be extremely surprised if we ran it again. Coach T was one of the main reasons we quit running it. If we are not in the spread, I would imagine it would be more of a pro style of offense similar to what we ran with Barry Norton.
Exactly, and I would be all for that.  Under Barry Norton, we ran a lot of I-formation sets with sufficient passing, especially during the Eric Anderson days.  Coach T said this week he wants to "run a little more."  He won't insist on us being a "run at all cost" type team.   I understand him to mean we'll increase the percentage of running plays compared to what we've done recently, but we won't become an archaic rushing team like the 80's Vidor squads (hopefully, we WON'T run the veer, either).   With that in mind, if our returning QB is better as a runner than a passer, then don't force him to throw the ball too much.  I remember in 2001 we stayed in the spread with a QB who looked totally lost in this system.  He was not a good passer, but we forced him into the spread offense with too many passing plays and it stunk.  That's just as bad as being primarily a running team with a front full of 170 lb lineman.   We can find some balance with a running game while still using our athleticism to stretch the field.  Oh yeah...and it would be a dream come true if we included a mix of passing into the middle of the field...something we've neglected for years.  All in all, I trust Cornel to make it work.
 6.

I saw (or read, can't remember) an interview with Coach T where he said he'll probably plan on running the ball a little more.  I think thats probably a good idea.
From what I have been told the last few days by several "in the know"(coaches, ect.) WOS will be scrapping the spread and going to either the veer or pro set, most likely the veer.
We ran the veer during our years as a 5A school and a few while in 4A.  I would prefer us to run out of the I-formation, but we'll see. The "I" gives you better options and makes it easier to pass when needed. Coach T is a little bit old school when it comes to this. Less risk, shortens the game, and keeps the defense off the field. Our returning QB is a better runner than passer, so that would play to our strength, at least for next year.
 7. I'm thrilled Mr. Colbert and the committee made the right decision.  I'm even more thrilled for Coach T.  He has poured his blood, sweat, and tears into the WO-S football players and community for many many years.  It's a wonderful thing to see him rewarded for all his hard work and dedication to the kids and program. Because Coach T has his fingerprints all over the program as it is right now, it will be a smooth transition to him leading the way. The winning tradition continues!

 10.
At the end of the process which statement from the new superintendent would sound like a superintendant to lead WOC into the future? Not to mention the most credible statement supporting the new AD. “After carefully reviewing both district applicants and considering the public opinion I recommend Cornell Thompson for the AD position for WOC” “After careful review of all of the qualified candidates from the state of Texas I recommend Cornell Thompson for the AD position for WOC” One thing is for certain, after he weathers this storm he should have smooth sailing (providing he makes the right choice) because there will be nowhere near the interest or scrutiny in future topics; such as layoffs, budget, principal selections, test scores, etc, you know, the less important topics. I’m not a Colbert supporter but I will be patient and give him a legitimate chance to lead the way before calling for his head.
Sounds good.  BTW, the "less important" academic and political topics you referred to can and should be approached with high interest, as well, but for now let's keep to the topic at hand.   No one is calling for Colbert's head.  The louder outcries on this thread are calling for 1) the TRANSPARENCY that Colbert himself has promised and 2) legitimate scrutiny on the apparent "recruitment" of candidates for the WO-S AD/HC position.
 11.

Im sure laws are being followed. I was just saying a Committee DOESN'T have to be put together.
The supt is not bound to create a committee, but it shows a more concerted effort to examine candidtaes.  Yes, the EEOC will smile at that as opposed to Colbert making this a one-man show.  I prefer that he made a committee of people from various perspectives instead of asking the (current) school board to do this.  Still, some actions have occurred by at least two people closely involved in the process that have created more than a small amount of suspicion as to what their objectives are.  Some of these actions have been posted and some have not.  All I want to say beyond that is that everyone who has a passion for Coach T to get the job should contact the supt and Eric Guillory.  They need to hear 1) your support for Coach T and 2) reasons WHY you support him.
 12.

Why would you need a Committee if Coach Thompson was the one for the job? This shouldn't even be discussed. This is a no Brainer.
I didn't say it wasn't a no brainer. There is  a process that must be followed. Otherwise we will have all sorts of problems. Therefore I agree with the process. Time will tell if I agree with the end result. The process isn't an insult to Coach T. The only important thing is the end result. Yall are focusing on the process and if he gets the job in the end then shame on yall for spewing all of this negative crap.
td, Coop does not speak for everyone here.  By law, this process is necessary.  I'm in full agreement with you on that.  Even though Coach T is the "no brainer" choice for this, you can't just hire him without publicly posting the job and interviewing other candidates.  The problem I have (as does Grad) concerns some of the actions going on behind the scenes involving at least one person on the search committee, as well as the supt himself.  In short, there seems to be an attempt to find reasons NOT to hire Coach T.  This isn't simply "negative crap", but a real cause for concern and potentially outrage.
 13.
What about the kids? Everyone is talking about everything but the kids. I'm sure they are watching you so called adults talking on here. This is really getting stupid I'm glad this will be over soon.
The immmediate issue here is about a coach.  His promotion or denial into the head coach position will have long term effects on the kids at the school.  What's stupid is this... ...the fact that WO-S family are now in a sense of urgency to convince our superintendent and his search committee about a man who has 30+ years of making boys into men and being a major success in his craft is by far the best man for the job they are trying to fill.
Apparently he was chosen by the superintendent.
I was just wondering if there was something that made him more qualified than the other possible candidates.
My impression is that he was chosen to give the committee a mixture of perspectives - coaches, parents, business community, etc. - all having a part in the process.  Mr. Guillory represents the "parent" being that his son plays for WO-S.
 15.
You know, Colbert also mentioned that he was going to be very "transparent" with this process. They have narrowed the list down to 6 already and I haven't heard a single candidates name yet... Where's the transparency???
Grad said a Freedom of Information request was filed about the interview and selection process (possibly by him).  Let us know when you hear something, Grad.

 17. There was a time a few years ago when most WO-S alumni, students, parents, and most anyone close to the school and/or football program believed it was a foregone conclusion that when Dan Hooks retired, Cornel would be waiting in the wings to assume the AD/HC job.  He has been Hooks' right hand man all these years, he is the most deserving, and most qualified to be hired as our next head coach.  I hate that this decision has less certainty than it once did.  If he is not promoted to the job he has EARNED, it will send WO-S down a path that will take many years to reverse.  If we promote Coach T, WO-S football will continue with an uninterrupted level of greateness that we have become accustomed to.  Cornel Thompson IS WO-S football.  We cannot afford to have our new superintendent make the mistake of hiring someone else.  One of the people on our superintendent's search committee is Eric Guillory.  He is a graduate of WO-S and his son plays on the football team.  I was informed that he is seeking input from people who are connected with WO-S in some way - not just anyone who lives in the district, but people such as season ticket holders, former football players, parents of current and former students, etc.  I am a season ticket holder who makes the two hour drive from Houston on Friday nights to watch the team play and have been doing so for 13 years.  My wholehearted support is for Cornel Thompson to be the next WO-S Head Coach.  If you have the same passion for Coach T, and fit the criteria of "WO-S identity" I've listed above, then send a text to Eric Guillory TODAY at 409-882-4718.
 18.
I bet Toby gets it. Longevity. and coach T stays on as the DC but works with Toby on a Co-Head Coach type of thing.
Grad, I assume you're referring to the one concerning Mr. Colbert's selection process.  Yeah, I had a good feeling on that one, too.  Did you also read Van Wade's endorsement of Coach T?  Van Wade is THE MAN!  Scooter, what do you mean clustering "Toby" and "longevity"?  Compared to Cornel Thompson, Toby has not been there very long.  His dad, Mark Foreman, has been there almost as long as Cornel.  Maybe you're confusing the two Foremans. The best scenario would be for Cornel to take the reigns as AD/HC and Toby continue to grow and develop as an offensive coordinator.  Toby bleeds blue and silver.  He will (and SHOULD) be the best candidate to become HC at WO-S in the future.  Cornel Thompson is the best candidate to lead the program now.
 19.
Hence, the need for this thread in the first place.   It seems that the board members need a reminder that they serve at the pleasure of the community, and that more importantly, the community can replace them (a couple of them as early this coming May). If they don't believe it, ask them if they remember a board member named Shirley Martin.
Grad, it was told to me by someone closer to the situation that the superintendent and head principal of WO-S will be making the coaching decision, not the Board.  If this is true, that's makes me more confident that Coach T will get it.  It's interesting to think that someone who was brought in from the outside, only a few months on the job, without ties to Orange or WO-S, gives us the best chance to insure an institution like Cornel Thompson will be promoted to the HC/AD position he has EARNED.

It's not like he hasn't earned it.
No, in fact that is the prevailing hope...I know it is mine as well.  Not only has he proven himself worthy, but I also think he is the best option to see WO-S football avoid going the way of WO-S baseball after Ronnie Anderson left.
Ditto.
