I somewhat agree. BUT, according to SOME of the WOS fans, they were gonna be state champs last year. ;)
AAW, don't you really mean ONE of the WO-S fans? These consistent jabs at you-know-who are too obvious.
This is the hot topic on 790 this morning its not often they talk high school sports on there!
JB, do you actually listen to the 790AM morning show? One of the hosts (Adam Wexlar) has the voice of a 12 year old boy and the other one (Matt Jackson) is only a slight improvement...he sounds like a high schooler. I can't bear listening to a couple of "children" on the radio. 'Never understood why some people who do not have a voice for radio are allowed to work behind the microphone. -

Granted, they don't exactly run the same scheme at WV as they did under their former HC (now at Michigan), but I expect they will give him plenty of opportunity to perform with his legs as much as his passing. The Big East is about to get a taste of Texas football. I'd love to see him switch to TCU, but I don't expect it. Either way, he'll be fun to watch. -
You are so right. And it seems that some teams find their sweet spot for a handful of years at time and then come back to the pack. Liberty Hill had their run of several good years. Commerce, Ennis, Stephenville, Sealy, etc etc. Teams dominate for a few years and then are a threat on any given year to win it all. WO-S had their good run where for 3 years and have been a threat to go all the way many years besides those three. There are many other teams that the same thing could be said about them. Next year and year after next will be no different. They will be capable of running the tables as will Abilene Wiley, Giddings, Cuero and a few others that every year have that potential.
My thoughts exactly, Hup. Nice post. I would only disagree with one detail...Giddings. They may continue to benefit from what is most years a weak Region 4, but won't win it all, not as long as they have their current HC. -
I'm far from a WO-S fan but this whole thread is ridiculous. If Hooks retires, I have to assume it will be because he has had enough, not because he made a first-round exit in the playoffs. There are countless coaches who wish they had half the numbers Hooks does. Again, I'm no Hooks/Stang fan but, in a game where numbers mean everything, I think it's safe to say that Hooks will determine his own exit point. One last comment. I know Stang fans view this as an off year but c'mon...Most schools would consider this a successful season.
True. I agree it was a successful season, though very unpredictable along the journey. It's all about perspective. Sure, we wanted to go further, but I guarantee you most of the WO-S faithful here appreciate every win. Congratulations to Coldsprings. -
Hooks will stay at WOS as long as he wants too. With that being said, he hasn't done much in the past 6 years while in 3A. I think once WOS dropped down, everyone would have thought that in 6 years they would have won at least 1 state championship. Sometimes change is needed, and a new face is what is needed to take a program to the next level. There is not any excuse for WOS losing in the first round twice, in 6 years in class 3A. Pretty embarrassing for a once mighty program.
It all goes to show how difficult it is to win a state championship. Nothing "embarrassing" about it. We had probably our weakest team, though still a pretty good one, since our first year in 3A. This year's team was very young, had a new QB, new OC, and plenty of injuries to slow our progress. It took several weeks to hit our stride. To say Hooks should move on is utterly stupid, and you look foolish saying it. This kind of "change for change's sake" thinking is counter-productive and laughable. He will stay on because he still enjoys coaching and he has one of the best programs in Texas. -
funny how that when his team is in the wrong he's willing to defend them and bring in things i've said on a WHOLE different topic... if people were slipping and slidding with their flag stuck into the ground mid field then you could use that thread to back you up, but the thing is that many teams did that just to have fun... WOS is the only team that i know of in SE Texas that goes to the mid field and wave their flag until the last second.
33, you are a walking paradox. What's really the issue here is that you've run out of things to talk about because BC lost. You're mad about the loss and this is your way of venting the frustration - by changing the subject of losing the game and attempting to insult WO-S. Almost every school represented on this message board has one, or at least one, fan that embarrasses himself/herself with senseless comments and ranting. Us WO-S fans have, regrettably, two "all stars" at this position. You've filled that role perfectly for your school. Stop now while you can. You'll look smarter for it. -

You've got such a BIG game to follow tonight, but were charitable enough to check on a thread concerning your most hated team. Thanks for making us feel loved. I'm sitting back enjoying some excellent fajitas, a drink (non-alcohol), and laughing at Lou Holtz's slobber speak on ESPN. I'm as chilled as I can be. As for you, it's beneficial to your health to make a break from hating WO-S. It'll prevent ulcers. Anyway, don't you have an important game to track? -

It sounded more like a slap against Mustang fans, but that's fine. I just wanted to clear your misconception about us thinking we're going to win state every year. Once you get past a couple of regular posters here, we're realistic about where we are. -

We'll know if the offensive problems are fixed over the next few weeks - one game won't tell the whole story. As for "going back to state"...that was dumb. Who is the "they" you referred to? I can think of one or two fantasy-minded people here who might say and think that, but you're way off the mark, dude. Most WO-S fans know that we're not there yet, and that we may not make a deep playoff run this year. So how can you make a leap from one positive remark about the offensive showing tonight to "now we think we're gonna win state." Get real... -

Who will replace their spots on defense? They've been valuable on that side of the ball, and we don't have enough depth to take their places on defense with the same success. The defense has been the only thing steady about the team so far. -
WOS vs. Silsbee/Silsbee wins 13-7/Comments

Good job Silsbee on beating my Mustangs. The sloppy field conditions affected both teams. Silsbee had two costly turnovers or they could have scored at least one more TD in the first half. WO-S was fortunate to score at all. The offense is in really bad shape. It's not play selection. It's a lack of concentration (dropped passes, penalties, fumbled snaps) and execution that has doomed us all season. Up to this point, I've understood and agreed with the decision to pace the number of plays on offense of our two studs (Franks & Haynes) because both are much needed on the defense. However, I hope to see more of them on offense because it's getting a bit desperate. Our offense badly needs a shot in the arm. Even with all of this said, I give full credit to Silsbee for winning this game. Congratulations on snapping the WO-S district win streak and for becoming the frontrunner to win 21-3A. You've earned it. -
Your comment about "you guys" would be more accurate if you said "you", as in one individual. Jasper won the game against WO-S hands down. Most of us who follow the Mustangs will readily admit that, but our common view gets overshadowed because we don't post every five seconds. With that said, the Mustangs will get things turned around, and last night was the first step in that direction. Next week's game will be intense.
