  1. On another post you said Haynes is also out. What's the reason for him not playing?
  2. It's hilarious watching all the non-WO-S fans ride Coop's back on this, especially AAW. If we (WO-S) lose again he may have cardiac arrest. The facts are these... 1) WO-S is going backward on developing the offense. This has more to do with player focus and execution than anything else. It's not about play selection. The play selection is just fine, and I'm happy that Toby has replaced the former OC. This was a definite upgrade. 2) Jasper EARNED the victory. They were the better team Friday night, and they deserved the win. I can guarantee you that most people who closely follow WO-S see it this way, but it's all overshadowed by the few homers (one in particular) who can't accept a loss for any reason. Those who understand what's going on with the offense and who have a realistic view of what happened Friday night are not the ones who post as often as the homers I referred to. Congratulations Jasper.
  3. I agree with your perspective completely.
  4. This had better be a loud wake up call for the 'Stangs. The offense has some serious work to do. They are not a top 3 team in 3A...yet. It's a good thing we have several weeks to get better (before the playoffs). One week, one game, one opponent at a time. Congrats to Kirbyville for making this a good game. I admire the guts of Coach Alvarez to go for the win in the end. I hope you win it all in 2A.
  5. Hold on folks, 1 second left on the clock. Trey Franks returns the kick-off 65 yards for the TD. MUSTANGS WIN AGAIN WO-S 41 KIRBYVILLE 37 I typically don't make predictions on wins and losses, but I will say there's no way Kirbyville lays 37 on WO-S.
  6. Their grueling practices, off-season program, and discipline expected by the coaches weeds out many potential players. When Kevin Smith was still in the NFL, he once made a comment that of all his years playing football...high school, college, and professional...his practices and workouts were never harder than the ones in high school at WO-S.
  7. No, it doesn't. If you're referring to the Giddings loss, I know exactly what happened. It SHOULD have been called, but it wasn't.
  8. What...when did Coach Crouch learn this play?
  9. I get a split second of freeze frame, as if it's beginning to play, and then it suddenly stops...everytime. Any ideas?
  10. Coop, I can't get this thing to work. I've tried three different computers, I have the necessary software, so what's the deal? I remember the same problem last year. Help please.
  11. Congratulations to Vidor on an impressive showing. Taking it to my Mustangs has got to boost the confidence of your team, and rightly so. To me, it doesn't matter if WO-S had key players out with injuries, how many 2nd stringers were used, no special team returns on punts & kickoffs, etc. I don't want to take anything away from the fact that Vidor outplayed WO-S. Some issue has been made about why WO-S didn't "win" this scrimmage or at least play better. Regardless of insufficiencies on WO-S's part (which I think they'll iron out in time), I think more emphasis need to be placed on the fact that Vidor is good. This is probably the best team they've had since '78 and I can't knock the enthusiasm of their fans for what they're expecting this season. It's still way too early for me to be convinced that they will win the district (though I hope they do) because they've had a few decent teams in recent years and just couldn't put together a string of good games. If the Pirates can play consistently solid in all their district games, even if they don't win all of them, this could finally be their year.
  12. I like and really respect Gary. But I doubt very seriously that Gary would broadcast a scrimmage game no matter how you spin it into a "real" type game. Actually, Gary did broadcast a scrimmage once. It was one with game conditions against Ozen several years ago.
  13. Coach Foreman is EXACTLY what we need in the case that we meet Gilmer again. His experience coaching the secondary and defending that pass attack will be just what the doctor ordered.
  14. We win district every year in basketball and never get shown love like this....See my point kicker? Im not jealous at all honestly if any school should be getting all the hype in football i think it should be central Im sorry, I thought this was a football thread my bad. ;D i figured i wouldnt get a good response to my question... It was a good response. There's a basketball thread where you can search for "all the love" due Ozen's basketball team. Even if you find it there, it will never equal what you see here. The fans' enthusiasm for their football teams (for all schools) will always overwhelm what you see for basketball, even one as successful as Ozen's. Football is king.
  15. Coop, can you provide a link to the interview?
  16. The sheer number of players would be a huge problem. Think of all the kids who would never get to play. There are only 11 spots on the field at one time. If you have 90 kids on the roster, too many of them (even some who may be good enough to play college ball) would not get enough time on the field to enjoy the high school football experience and develop their skills.
  17. I was beginning to think no one would clarify this. Thanks, Gas. Orangefield, BC, Mauriceville, and Deweyville had teams in the same league, too. I remember playing for Salk and lining up against future WO-S stud Marvis Brown, who grew to 270 lbs. his senior season. On the first play from scrimmage, I tried to bull rush him and literally bounced off the guy like a pinball.
  18. Grad, I'm thinking Ray Rogers, who made first team all-state in the early 80's...Stephen Lee, who was a third-team All American (Div. 1AA) his senior year at Lamar...Pat Arnett, who was almost unblockable in just about every game his senior year...but what left the biggest impression on me among WO-S lineman was the entire OL in the '97 season that blocked for Tim Feathers. They were big and very physical. It was five yards and a puddle of blood on every handoff.
  19. What??? Jeremy Johnson...not a "big boy"? ;D
  20. A couple of items from that list that caught my eye... #12 Valdosta, Ga. I saw a report on that school several years ago on ESPN when they ran the Scholastic Sports America show (Do they still carry it?). Valdosta's football program is run much like a military academy. They run a summer camp program (off campus) for kids who want to "try out" for the football team. Many people across the country consider this the top football program in the country. #25 Weir, MS. This was Roy Oswalt's high school. The school is so small that it wouldn't surprise me if little Roy-O played on the offensive line.
  21. A&M will get it turned around. If he goes to UT, I'll still be happy for him. I root for A&M between the two schools, but I don't hate UT. I pull for both schools. If UT gets him, it'll be a treat to see him play alongside Earl Thomas.
  22. AAW, I love you, man. Never a thread goes by on any message board without your input about Jeremy Johnson. You're as wired about this kid and Silsbee football as Coop is about anything WO-S. This season you'll be two peas in a pod-cast. ;D BTW, I hope he goes to A&M, as well.
  23. This poll is flawed. The list doesn't include Bridge City, WO-S, or Silsbee, but you included Crosby?
  24. Does this kid have a dad by the same name and graduated from WO-S in the mid 80's?
  25. Not a great point, you lost both games. The fact is the bulldogs are champs until further notice. I hope they get a chance to get play this year. If WOS wins it all they will have to go thru the buckeyes and bulldogs. 87's point was valid, but he picked two "incomplete" examples. Both Gilmer and Ennis were too far ahead on the scoreboard for WO-S to overcome. However, there are plenty of occassions where WO-S was behind at the half and came back to win because of adjustments by the coaches. I remember when WO-S played Nederland in '97. I was at the game with a friend of mine who had never seen either team play. Ned was up 17-7 at halftime. I looked at my buddy and said, "I've seen this many times. Here's what's going to happen. WO-S will score two TDs and Ned will not score again." That's exactly what occurred. WO-S won 20-17. I wish I could say I can predict it that way everytime, but if that's the case I'd live in Vegas.
