Plus, our starting center (Jim Bob Aven), who was probably our best lineman, was out with a leg injury suffered earlier in the season. We could have used him this day because Yates had the top rated recruit in the state of Texas at...middle linebacker. That boy was a monster. The refs incorrectly called a fumble when we had the ball on the one yard line in the first quarter. A couple of big plays by Yates in the 4th, including a beautiful deep throw & catch between two WO-S defenders, negated what was a fine effort by WO-S. We outplayed Yates for almost four quarters. 'Outgained them in penetrations, first downs, AND total yards. I have that game on VHS. No doubt in my mind...if we win this game, we win state. Yates destroyed Odessa Permian 37-0 in the final.

I can see Johnson excelling at any of those three schools. All three head coaches play offensive styles that would allow him to improvise, use his legs, AND throw. I always hope to see Texas guys go to Texas schools, so my hope is he picks Baylor.

The scheduling decision for WO-S vs. Newton won't be made until August. Both schools have to wait for Coop's hurricane tracking reports.

I was hoping Gilmer would win this. But since they didn't... ...looks like our new friend "Gilmer38WOS28" will have to change his name to "Carthage31Gilmer28." Great season Buckeyes. You definitely won the respect of WO-S fans. We hope to see you again next year. You have a terrific football team and coaching staff, as well as great community support and sportsmanship.

Jody, hating WO-S is such a boring hobby. You've even lost whatever "cuteness" factor you thought you had. No one thinks you're funny. But if your lame comments toward WO-S provide supportive therapy, at least you're saving money on medication and office visits. ;D ;D

Wreck07, if you're so eager to get stats on WO-S, they're not hard to find if you do some simple research. That info has been posted on another thread. Also, you could send a friendly request to WOS87 and he will be happy to provide it for you. In one sentence you say, "This will be a game for the ages." In the same post, you say "Gilmer will beat your a**." That's juvenile. It's either one or the other. The majority of WO-S fans respect Gilmer, but it's clear you don't respect WO-S. That's fine. We'll be ready Saturday.

Ditto. I'm praying for "boldness in the booth". We can't play not to lose. We've got to be the aggressor.

Because the competition is stiff and there are other really good teams out there. The "most talented" teams don't always win. There are too many intangibles to the game of football. Why doesn't Southlake Carroll win it every year? Why doesn't Katy win it every year? Why doesn't Northshore win it every year? Why doesn't LaMarque win it every year? That's football...

One of the Gilmer fans at 3adownlow said he was "encouraged that Silsbee played you guys to a 14-7 overtime game." If that gives comfort to them, I say let it. The following was my reply to this person: I wouldn't take the Silsbee game as a gauge on what to expect from WO-S. Call that getting the "one bad one" out of the way, as you described it for Gilmer's last game (vs. Mexia). Silsbee has played us tough on many occasions, and they played their best game of the year that night. Unfortunately for them, they did not have a 10 game season's worth of games like the one they played against us. That game was one bad hurricane and forever ago. WO-S is much improved since then and in good stride right now. WO-S has to do four things IMO: 1) execute well on offense 2) make good decisions on offensive playcalling 3) limit the number of big plays by Gilmer's offense 4) not turn over the ball Items #1 and #2 are what concern me most. If we do these four things...and I know we have it in us...I like our chances.

Yea Griff where were you? He is going to Tech. I grabbed the first seat I could find and didn't move the whole night. I've been fighting a cold and took a chance by getting out in the chill last night. I didn't see any of the gang, but I wasn't looking for anyone. I just wanted to get in and get out. Hope to see some of the wo-s.com crew next week. I have to work late Friday, so I might only see the second half. Nice showing by your team against Silsbee. I expected the Tigers to win that won a little more easily.

Scott (#9) and Allen (#10) were in on 90% of all offensive carries and defensive tackles. They were a two man team. Scott was especially good. He played linebacker and tailback and was probably the biggest player on their roster. Does anyone know if colleges are recruiting him, or is he an unknown at this time?

This is more props for Silsbee's defense. The gave a good challenge to WO-S last week. They may get a couple more shutouts by season's end. Nice job, Tigers.
