Are the Stangs still short a few varsity players? Anyone know which players?
-
Size? yes! Team speed? Yes! Depth? Not yet! GIve us about two more years, and we'll have some depth. We currently only have around 46 players on the varsity roster on Friday nights. I'd like to see somewhere in the mid 60's in a couple of years. But no, WO-S shouldn't be much of a problem! Only 46, huh? Still, on average, a successful 5A program will typically have more depth than WO-S who suits out between 25 - 30 players every year. WO-S coaches traditionally get the most out of the numbers they have, which keeps them a stout 3A team that would also be very competitive in any 4A district, but a 5A district would be too much to keep up with in a 10-week season.
-
No 3A school, even one as good as WO-S, has any business playing a strong 5A school. WO-S would make a respectable showing, but would lose it in the 2nd half. WB has too much size and depth.

I sure can't. Is anyone receiving the audio feed from KOGT? -
Who was the last good kicker that you recall? I think it was either Russell Thibideaux or Tyler Turkel.

Dayton's on a roll. No surprise at the progress in this game, especially after how they handled WO-S in the scrimmage. Dayton is the best team in the area right now. Barring injuries, they'll take the district. -

Mr. dayton has the inside scoop. It's all in jest, fellas. XLMCoog88 and gman, you can relax. I'm not from Lumberton (though I did enjoy their win against LM in the playoffs). I'm fully aware of LaMarque's football history and tradition. My remarks were for entertainment purposes only. Well wishes for your team this year. -

Are these 60 "new" members part of the Academy that elected you Moderator, Coop? If so, you forgot to thank them, along with your parents, grandparents, producers, directors, and any other VIPs. They must really like you. -
*LaMarque at Central Scrimmage/CENTRAL WINS!!!*
griff replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Well...we'll find out how good Central is when they play Lumberton. Good thing for LaMarque that they didn't scrimmage the Red Raiders. One defeat from the "L-Train" is enough for the Coogs. Lumberton...the REAL "L-TOWN"!!! -
Aww, c'mon 81. Are you saying BHFAN is getting off topic again? He never does that. Only other posters do that, as he's quick to point out. So, how are the Eagles looking this year, BHFAN? Seriously...

Great moments in PNG football history. I remember how loud those metal cans were from the Stephenville fans, but PNG had louder fans and more of them. Wish they could have pulled out the "W" in that one, but Stephenville was the best 4A team that year. Still, the Indians had a fine team and a great season. As for the LaMarque matchup, PNG pounded them. They were the more physical team and had a lot of highlight hits in that game. As the game progressed, LaMarque's players looked shell-shocked and intimidated. This WO-S follower was a loud PNG fan that day. It was great to see a neighbor school knock off the mighty Coogs, especially in the way they did it - with smashmouth football.

Put it in Lumberton. (J/K) As for the idea of who has the history of most D1 signees or NFL players, that would not be the best criteria for selecting a host city. Anyone who has lived in the Golden Triangle knows that when it comes to high school football, the Golden Triangle and it's surrounding cities represents a community of football greatness. Therefore, the Hall should represent ALL the area without favoritism for the city where it's located, whether it's Beaumont, Pt. Arthur, Orange or anywhere else. I would be in favor or building it in Beaumont (and I'm from Orange) simply because it is more centrally located and no other reason.

We never had 2,000 students. The decline of enrollment from the WO-S district began way before the problem with leadership began. You've got to put this in historical perspective. When I graduated in 1985, we had 356 in my senior class. We haven't had a senior class that large since then. I'm not debating the internal problems within the schools. I'm also not refuting the fact that there has been some relocating of residents from the WO-S district to other districts. My point is to say that the MAIN reason WO-S student enrollment has been in decline since the 1980's and continues to this day is because the population of Orange is shrinking. Plain and simple.
-
This has veered a bit off topic from the original question, which was about why the enrollment at WO-S has dropped so drastically. The answer is short and simple. There are less people living in Orange (both the city and the county) than there was when wos1980 graduated. It's not about people relocating into adjacent school districts. It's much more about people moving out of Orange County. Less residents = less students. Since 1980, the number of people who have moved out of Orange is greater than the number of those who have moved into Orange. That's the answer concerning enrollment. Now, as to why people are leaving, that's a broader question.
-
Right, but I was referring to Winnie and the part of Chambers County near Winnie. MB/BH and the other cities I named are further from Beaumont and closer to Houston and Baytown.
-
That's they way I see it, as well. I would include Winnie and Chambers County in SETX, too. Liberty, Dayton, Huffman, and Barbers Hill are "tweeners" in my view, but many people in the Golden Triangle consider those four more of a Baytown/Houston connection. As someone who lives in the Houston area, I can tell you most people over here see those four towns as more of an outer Houston suburb, and not part of the Beaumont area.

No kidding. Watch out, Kirbyville...there's a couple of BH followers who will despise you even more over this development. ;D ;D ;D -
Yeah, yeah, yeah...everyone knows the purpose of a scrimmage, but if BH would've "won" the scrimmages against WO-S, THEN they would have counted for more than just "practice" to you. Nevertheless, well wishes to BH in '08.
-
It's funny how it took one little mention of WO-S and BH in the same thread and you came running out of the Boonhill Docks. Hilarious... It would have been very easy for Coach Price to schedule WO-S, and now he has to arrange a travel date with a team all the way in northeast Texas. Another possible reason Coach Price declined to play WO-S is that this year's scrimmage would have been played at Dan Hooks Stadium, and ole Dan insists on playing these in a "real game" format, which the BH coaches objected to two years ago. At any rate, BHFAN here's another chance for your team to get manhandled by a team east of the Trinity. Go ahead and get your annual list of excuses ready... "It's only a scrimmage" "Scrimmages don't count" "We were without our best player" "We're just trying to find players to fill positions" "The coaches aren't trying to win" "We didn't lose...our defense dominated the line of scrimmage" Just be happy Kirbyville didn't have an open scrimmage date.

: There are a few people here who actually KNOW Coach Thompson. He has some personal and professional reasons that will keep him rooted in Orange.
