HARDIN-JEFFERSON MARATHON/Post updates here!

Vidor 54 Shepard 49 In the semifinal of the Silver Bracket Vidor 59 Central Pollock 53 In the Championship Game of the Silver Bracket Lumberton beat Shepard in the 3rd place game in the Silver Bracket and Huffman beat LCM in the 3rd place game in the Gold Bracket. Did not get final scores on either game. It was lots of fun for me to get to see game here on Friday and Saturday. IMO, the field was very solid, top to bottom. Most of the games were quality and very competitive. Despite every team playing 6 games in 3 days and despite the snow, the tournament seemed to run on time, and very efficient. The officiating was as solid throughout (I know there were missed calls and a few games may have could used some improvement, but overall, it was quite solid IMO). Thanks Coach Davis and the HJ Family! -

They were not posting all the scores, but I believe Evadale on Friday morning beat Buna 97-85. I know Evadale lost to Vidor on Friday evening 62-49. -
100%. This game was very close.....score just ended up lopsided.

Every time we throw, it seems like 1 too many times. But everyone in the stands seems to disagree with me. They want the Pirates to throw the ball!

I do not know who will win the game. This is High School Football we are talking about. But the above statement seems completely absurd. I am pretty sure PAM has the speed on both sides of the ball to match up with just about anybody in the state!
-
I appreciate the post and the willingness to eat Crow, but that PAM team last night is not just Good, they are REALLY good! I was at the WOS scrimmage earlier this year and I know it was "just a scrimmage" but there is no way that WOS is better than PAM. I mean I do not know who would win if and anything can happen on one night in a football game, but PAM has an Amazing Team. I would expect them to go deep in the Playoffs! Good Luck!

Crosby ISD changes stance on protests

I realize that nothing that I say here will have any affect on anyone's opinion. But I feel the need to kneel and be counted. Those young football players who have chosen to kneel instead of stand, may not understand completely what they are doing. But neither do the ones that stand and hold their hand over their hearts. What Kaep has done has made so many of us uncomfortable. And that is a good thing! It is too easy for White Males to just sit by and think that all is well in America for everyone. It's not. But I can still go days without remembering that, because I am one of those privileged White Males. And watching Football on Sundays (a bunch of millionaires running around playing a game) never made me stop and think about the issues. But now it does, if only for a few moments. And I can thank Colin K and all the others who joined in for that. I would gladly join them by taking a knee on the sidelines. For those who think that makes me a bad example to young people, I would beg you to take a quiet look into history. The Lorax: Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not. -

Dang! Enjoying these updates from high in the sky. Wishing I was there!

Baytown Lee opens up with a Big first quarter. #32 (iirc) for the Ganders was playing at another level from the field. Ganders led 14-5 after 1. Pirates have a strong second quarter on both Offense and Defense to take a 22-16 halftime lead. The second half brought more coaching adjustments by both sides. Both teams played hard all the way to the end. I think the 3rd qtr score was 31-22 Pirates. The Ganders stormed back in the 4th only to fall just short. Pirates take this one by a final score of 35-33.

EVADALE TOURNAMENT/POST UPDATES HERE!
daddy23 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
i heard Vidor won 66-51. I think Vidor trailed throughout the first half by about 10, but scored about 40 in the 2nd half. Again, I was not at the game, but I this came off a text thread from someone at the game if I am reading it correctly. -
EVADALE TOURNAMENT/POST UPDATES HERE!
daddy23 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Some of the results in this one are puzzling. I have been out of town and have not seen any of the games. But BC went 0-3 and Vidor went 3-0 in the same Pool. I did watch BC scrimmage Vidor a few weeks ago and saw BC (without their football players due to playoffs) easily handle Vidor (iirc they beat them by 20 or more). I know that Vidor's starting PG has not played at all in the Evadale Tourney due to a injured Hamstring. Did Bridge City lose some of their players? Are they temporarily missing for the tourney? Maybe they are just out of town for the holidays? Maybe they did not pick up any football players either. I just find these results puzzling. -

Vidor's new hire as head basketball coach

Team, I tried to post months ago when this thread was first on, but for some reason I could not login. My login and password didn't work. Tried again this week and it worked. Noticed the thread again and just wanted to share my thoughts. I did have a son that wore #23. He would be a freshman this year and likely in the program. Instead, he is fighting a losing battle with Osteosarcoma. When I choose the moniker he was a 6 year old playing T-ball. Those are some memories that I will always cherish. I have other children (both boys and a girl) who have played sports at Vidor. This isn't about how Larry treated my children. My children are cursed with my gentics. Every minute of Playing Time that they ever get a testimony that hard work and commitment can occassionally overcome genetics and that the talent pool at Vidor is often shallow. However, Larry did a below average job of coaching as he took over the team and he detoriated into doing a really poor job. I do not mean that as an indictment on him as a person or as him on a coach. I am just pointing out that he lost the team, the individual players and the community and as things went South, he only made decisions that made things worse. I actually think that I am an above average Sports Coach (although it is not what I do professionally) and yet I have sucked it up with some of my teams. Nothing I did worked and I made decisions that made things worse. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes you need a reboot. I hope the reboot helps Coach Sterling. I wish the reboot would have happen 2 years sooner for Vidor. That is how I really feel. -
Vidor's new hire as head basketball coach

Team First, Then you do not know Larry Sterling very well. I do not care what you think my motivation is. I am just calling it like I see it. I have been on this board a long time. It is easy to find out exactly who I am. And I haven't said anything here that I have not first said to Larry privately in person. -
Vidor's new hire as head basketball coach
daddy23 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
He was only there 5 years. One as an assistant and 4 as the Head Coach. So if you are saying that he wanted out after the first year, that would certainly explain his seeming indifference attitude towards the players as individuals. I just think if someone wanted out that badly, it would be easier to get out before he got fired and not after. But I am not friend with Coach Sterling. I have to defer to you and give you the benefit of the doubt. I tried to give Coach Sterling the benefit of the doubt for years while he was here. I defended him for as long as I could. But eventually, there appeared to be no defenses. But I understand that in his life as an Educator, he is a super nice guy who everyone really likes. I really do wish him the best in Bridge City and whatever follows. -
Vidor's new hire as head basketball coach
daddy23 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
This post just doesn't make sense or match the reality that we saw in Vidor. The Vidor Parents and Fans wanted Sterling out for years, but Administration stood by him. Your later question of whether Sterling is a good coach? I think it is too early to tell. Bill Bellicheck was a terrible coach in Clevland and will go down in history as one of the greatest. I hope for Larry and Bridge City's sake that there is another such turnaroud in the future. But he was not good for the Vidor Program and he was not good for the Boys in the program the last 2 years. I have no idea how good of a coach Coach Williams will be. I have no idea how many games Vidor will win. But anyone is an improvement over the last situation for the Pirates!
