1. It is much harder to follow a team that is not winning and as a Vidor fan, I have some experience in that. I, of course, applaud the Lumberton boys for continuing to play and battle out there.  But I also acknowledge the Lumberton fans.  I do not know what they were saying up in the stands, but most of the Lumberton fans that came to Vidor stayed to the end.  That is even more than you can say for the Vidor fans on Friday night.  And that deserves some kudos.
 2. That was two years in arrow that Quirante scored a TD in the final seconds.  And it happened in the same end zone.  déjà vu! Ozen kicked our butts in the 1st half.  Credit to the Panther players. Vidor played better in the 2nd half.  But I think the coaching and Tom Foolery down the stretch was the difference.  They sold that fake punt SO well.
 3. I was wrong.  I thought Vidor would win tonight.  Congrats to Ned.  They outplayed us to night.  I loved Vidor's battling to the end, but props to Nederland on a big win!
 4. Great environment tonight!  Both sides full 25 minutes before kickoff. People standing along all possible fencelines.  Looks like traffic and tickets were not huge problems after all.  ;)
 5.
going west bound or east bound ?
Right now, both ways!
 6. It is so bad out there right now, I smell a conspiracy  ;). But seriously, you have to consider Bridge City.  But if you do go through BMT, go through downtown.
 7. This thread is a train wreck.  Smart money says to not post, but hernI go anyway. Vidor has not allowed Vidor fans to sit on Visitors side for years (not even at homecoming).  We cannot even go over to the Visitor side for shorter concession lines (like the game against Sante Fe).  It has been enforced in the past by police nicely asking the Vidor fans to move.  This is not a ploy to fill the Ned side with Vidor fans. Two years ago when Vidor played BC, BC sent 0 tickets to Vidor for pregame sales.  It was not a conspiracy.  It was just not something that they usually did for predistrict games.  Vidor fans did not start a thread.  Some of us had to stand in line way too long, but we eventually got in.  I do not remember the Visitor gate at Vidor have near the long line that I am used to encountering in BMT or other places.  It has never been as bad as it is in Bridge City, for sure.  I wish there were more seats in the stadium.  I wish ticket sales were easier everywhere.  But this is not an act of poor sportsmanship.  At worst, it is just a little inefficiency in the system.  I hope everyone who wants to see the game gets in.  And I hope the Pirates keep bringing it the way they have so far this season  ;)
 8. Kinda like voting for homecoming queen. ;D
This is exactly why Vidor did not even get a vote.  Even if Vidor was one of the ten best teams in the state, how would you expect the Vidors to find them in the slew of 4a teams after just a few weeks.  If Vidor beats Nederland next week, I would not expect Vidor to get more than a couple of votes.  And that is how it would be for any program with Vidor's history.  To think otherwise is just evidence of a martyr complex.  ;) Really?  I don't see PNG on there....  Lol
Why is Brenham on the list and Vidor isn't?
Cuz we very rarely lose, and Vidor just got to be respectable over the last 2 years.
9.
I still say if he is not the QB that Offense is nowhere near as good as it is currently. I know alot of people would rather have him on defense if they had a choice between defense or offense, i'd rather have him on offense. And guys its not like he cant chunk the rock either.  ;)
Last year, I really thought he was more valuable on D than on Offense.  I try to admit when I am wrong, and I was wrong.  He has taken the QB position in our offense to another level.  And I don't completely get the hype statement by scapegoat, unless it was sarcasm.  I have heard as much hype by our opponents about him as I have from Pirate fans. I agree that he is only one piece of the team.  He just happens to be the Most Valuable piece this year.  And having watched a lot of Pirate football for 2 decades, I think he may be the MVP of the last 2 decades for the Pirates.  It is hard not to be impressed and amazed at some of the things that he does on the field. But I do not think that he is the greatest athlete to ever come out of southeast Texas (or some other hyberbole).  In fact, he might not be the best player on either side of the ball for many other local HS teams this year.  But I do know how impressive he is in our system and on ths team.  And I am amazed that the coaches had the scrum to put him at QB last season having never played QB before in the system (remember that he played nose guard in 7th grade).  I hope he gets a chance to play at the next level, but regardless of that, he is as good of a HS football player as I have ever seen. And just for the record, I am not his father.  I was daddy23 long before Montana was blipping on this message board's radar.  ;)
 10. I think a case could be made for Vidor or WOS, but I think PAM is who I would vote for with my head.
 11.
Question for anyone who might have an idea, college recruiter talked to Moore and Montana after game, all that is known school colors are black and gold with a "B". Any ideas to which school?
My idea is that it was not a college scout.  Not that they don't deserve the attention.
 12. I cannot say how much fun it was to watch the pirates play tonight.  Vidor played great tonight!  Kudos to CB.  They played hard and were classy all the way to the end.  It was a very clean game by both teams. Best news of the night for the Pirates:  no big injuries! Go Pirates!
 13. I am really impressed with Vidor so far.  And Clear Brook is a very good team.  Vidor caught them CB by surprise on 2 costly plays and that was most of the difference in the first half. Now I do not want to jinx us, but my only concern is how humid it is, and hot.  CB has nobody going both ways.  And while Vidor has played more kids this week than ever, I hope cramps and fatigue do not catch up with us in the 4th qtr. But so far, everything is going great for the Pirates!
 14. 10 minutes to start and while Vidor is not travelling with huge number, but we have got to outnumber the CB fans 2-1.  But the fans will not make a difference on the field.  :D Go Pirates!
 15.
Did the Vidor fresh/jv play Clear Brook
No, they were going to play Nederland, but the game was cancelled due to weather.  We play them again in 2 weeks.
 16. I would give WOS the edge in this one.  And I would guess they would win by a couple of scores.  But I mean no disrespect to the Jags.  I just think WOS may really be that good!
They do run the triple option.  But I thought they had more success running to the outside than in the middle.  And they threw the ball more than I thought they would.  If I had to guess, I think CB threw the ball about 20% of the plays I saw.  That is a little more than Vidor throws.  ;)
Now that I have seen the Seven Lakes game, I want to modify my statement.  ;) The SL game had much less passing by CB.  And they ran inside much more than in the other games.  And their FB #22 was very good inside the tackles.  It appeared to me that SL was committed to taking away the Pitchman.  Maybe, as result, they ran more inside.  I think they look at what the D is taking away and go with the other option (but isn't that the point of the Triple Option).  And the QB had some nice runs when nothing else was open as well. Another thing that I saw CB use much more in their last game was the fake snap.  They will set up in formation and then send the HB in motion to simulate the start of the play.  But after a few steps, the back will stop his motion, the QB will come out from under center and they will all look to the sidelines.  This gives the coaches a chance to read the Defense.  It also led to multiple Offsides penalties against SL.  The coaches would then call a play and they would run it.  I imagine that this was being done from the No Huddle, but I did not see that for certain.  It will force the Vidor D to stay on their toes and not assume anything from the Offense.  We see lots of Spread Offenses use this tactic, but I have just not seen many Triple Option Offenses, and I was surprised by this wrinkle. Sorry for all the details, but I am just having fun watching a little HS football!

One other thing to take away from the scrimmage was that the offense and the defense wore different colors for Clear Brook.  And for most of the night (and even then with rare exception), the players only played on Offense or Defense.  This is a big difference for a 5A team vs Vidor.  Vidor will have a number of players seeing significant time on both sides of the ball.  This may be a big difference come crunch time. Clear Brook almost beat LP.  CB attempted a 50 yd FG at the end of regulation.  And from the best I could tell it was just short a few yards.  CB did a good job of containing the LP offense.  And the LP offense used a lot of misdirection which could bode well for CB against Vidor.  In fact, of the 2 TDs that I saw CB give up in regulation, one of them was about a 40 yard, Half Back pass to a wide open WR (and I do not think that Vidor has that one in the playbook).  CB attempted their own HB pass with less success.  But LP moved the ball seemingly throughout the night.  CB came up big in the Red Zone with key stops and Takeaways.  I have not seen any of the Seven Lakes game. I think CB will be the fastest team that we have played so far this year and probably a little bit bigger.  They have 2 good RBs and from what I could tell multiple QBs that play as well.  There defense is big, fast and aggressive.  I thought #8, a defensive end, was quite the player.  It seemed like LP ran away from him more and more as the night went on.  But I would not count Vidor out, at all.  Neither of Vidor's game have been even as close as the score indicates.  CB is better than SF or BC, but CB needs to be about 40 points better than both of them for this to be close.  Vidor is healthy.  And they have not played as good as they can play yet.  So far, the turnovers and mistakes have been easily overcome.  That may not be the case on Friday.  If I had to make a prediction, I would say that both Kickers will be involved in the game on Friday.  And that both Kickers will have 2 or 3 FGs.  I think Vidor will be able to eek out 1 more TD than CB, and so I will say Vidor will win 27-23.
That was me that said that but I thought I prefaced it by saying I only saw about 15 plays before I left. CB ended up wearing them out. Believe me, I will not discount Vidor at all but this will not be Santa Fe either
That actually makes sense.  Sante Fe moved the ball quite well in their first 2 series on offense.  I think they would have scored had they not fumbled.  But as the night went on, CB was clearly the better team.

 21. Bridge City by 2 or 3 TDs.
 22.
almost forgot, Quirante had a punt that went for 62 yards. thought it worth mentioning. i know we haven't punted much,(and we don't want to have to) but it was a dandy.
I don't remember it going for 62 yards, but it did check up and stop on BC 2 yard line.  It was a thing of beauty.
 23. Bridge City looked to have some very good parts.  They broke tackle after tackle all night.  They took some big hits and never quit.  I think Bridge City is much better than their 0-2 record would indicate. For Vidor, too many mistakes and too many penalties.  But it is hard to complain about 45-7. Go Pirates!
 24.
Tonight is a huge game for both Vidor and Livingston players and coaches.  For Vidor, a win means the first playoff birth in almost a decade and only the second (I think) in my lifetime.  (I realize that half the teams now make the playoffs but I do not think that reality undermines my point).  Before the Opening Kickoff, Before the Coin Toss, Before the band plays the National Anthem, outside the Pirate Locker Room, a couple hundred young men gather.  These young boys, ranging in age from 5 to 14, will come because some Little League (or Jr High) coach told them that the Vidor Pirates need their help.  They need some extra support from these little Pirates.  Maybe all of those little Pirates gathered outside the locker room will give the Varsity Boys the extra fire that they need to come out strong, play hard all night, and obtain the victory.  Maybe those little faces and voices will be just what the Varsity Pirates need. But I know at least 3 (and I guess many more) of these young men are really counting on the Pirates tonight.  While these boys are still young, each of them know how long it has been since Vidor went to the Playoffs.  Each of them have heard parents, teachers, and friends comment that "These are the games that Vidor loses."  Each of them have been exposed to the tradition of losing that some Pirate Fans have embraced.  If the Pirates fall short this evening, then life will go on for everyone involved.  (I am not trying to make more out of this than it is--it is just a game.)  Coaches will keep coachings.  Players will continue to be students.  And Fans will return next season to cheer on the Team again.  However, if we win tonight, then it will be a Spark of Hope (hopefully just one of many) that these Young Pirates outside the Locker Room will always remember.  They will remember the night that the Pirates won the big game--the night when Vidor's team came up big.  And no matter how many games they may lose through the years;  And no matter how many times their team may be outmatched, tonights victory can be one that gives hope and inspires a whole generation of Young Pirates.  For that reason, I am hoping (and may even utter a little prayer--although I am sure that God doesnt give a dang) that the Pirates come up Big Tonight.  And although I hate to wish for another team's (full of equally deserving young men) season to end, I am headed to the stadium with more hope for a victory than I can ever remember--Hope for the Sake of those Young Men outside the Locker Room
I am shameless bumping an old thread that I started almost 3 years ago.  But after a historic season for the Pirates last year.  And after 2 solid scrimmages and a shutout opener.  I cannot help but look back on that November night in 2009.  There is a different confidence that flows from the Pirate Football players and coaches.  Not a immature cockiness, but a confidence that they can play and compete with any team they come up against.  We are a long ways away from building a winning tradition in Vidor Football.  But I sure like the way it is headed in the last 3 years.  Hats off to Jeff, his staff, and all those young men!
