  1. From the cover story in this year's DCTF magazine: Jason Todd is South Dallas born and raised. He graduated from Dallas Lincoln and played under legendary coach Reginald Samples. Every day, Todd walks the hall on campus where the image of his grandfather, former SOC principal Frederick Todd, hangs above him, a constant reminder of his loyalty to the area. Ward is a Dallas Kimball graduate. Defensive line coach Dominic Spencer is a Dallas Skyline product. Running backs coach Keith Davis is a graduate of Dallas Hillcrest. You get the picture. There’s nothing they pride themselves on more than representing the area in which they were raised. Which makes the program’s nickname, given by Todd, all the more resonant — The Mecca. In the Muslim faith, Mecca is the birthplace of the prophet Muhammad, where the Islamic faith originated and where every Muslim is eventually called back to at least once in their life. “You had to pass through SOC because it was first in Oak Cliff and Oak Cliff is the biggest part of Dallas,” Ward said. “As everybody from Oak Cliff had spread, somebody within their roots, if they’re from Dallas, went to SOC: Granny, mama, uncle or whoever.” So basically what they were saying is SOC is the birthplace of what you see now in programs like Duncanville, DeSoto, Lancaster, Cedar Hill, etc....a ton of those players families are from Oak Cliff and have a tie to SOC in some way
  2. EXCEPTION: 1-4-5-a-2. Delete all of item 2 and replace with the following: 2. Other than the player’s number, the jersey may only contain: Player’s name, or, words that reflect positive values, such as “Honor”, “Integrity”, “Courage”, etc., substituted for the player’s name on the back of the jersey (by local district approval) School name Mascot name UIL Logo Sleeve stripes Logo for school, conference, mascot, postseason-game, memorial, the military Team slogan/acronym (by local district approval) The letter “C” to identify a Team Captain American flag State flag
  3. I figure this one before its all said and done will be close to a sellout
  4. Caught up with Coach Smith postgame and he definitely mentioned the OL improvement
  5. Miller is a great player, but I thought the Tech kid had very good coverage on him much of the night...Miller's first TD I think he did have a step on him, but Brisbane led him perfectly to let Miller go get it w/the step advantage... That 2nd TD was outstanding coverage, it was just a great throw into a tight window....I really enjoyed watching those two go at it.....two outstanding players
  6. I know when Coach Graham got hired as the OC there was a lot of talk (mostly negative) about the hire..interesting after an 11-2 season and a pretty good offense if those concerns have faded? I cant remember if the negativity came from Beaumont people or PA people who were worried but I definitely recall some concern
  7. Weather bug tells me 30% chance of rain during the day and clear in the evening
  8. Just letting you know what she told me when I asked her. I dont think Ashley would lie about it, now she wasn't there and is only as good as the information being given to her but figured I'd at least offer some transparency
  9. I asked Pickle about this one, Apparently there was a power outage in the pressbox and power wasn't cut on until start of the 2nd Qtr...
  10. If you click on a game go back to the main scores page and just drag the page down and it refreshes
  11. If it doesnt come up, please download the latest update in your app store
  12. They are quoting NCAA rules which the UIL uses
  13. I was totally wrong about Lancaster, that team is a force and threat to win the region.... I was kind of right on LaPorte, I thought Berneathy would turn it around maybe have them in the mix for 4th...he's doing more than that!
  14. PVIL officially ceased to exist after 1968 but many ISD's starting closing PVIL schools earlier than that...for example Brownwood closed their seperate HS for black students in like 1961....Daingerfield and Sweeny closed their seperate HS's in 1964 or 1965 if memory serves...some places kept their PVIL school open for another year or two and then merged like in 1970...Marshall and Lufkin I believe were like that.....then you have places like Beaumont who kept them open longer....Dallas Madison, Dallas Lincoln, Houston Yates, Houston Worthing, Houston Wheatley are PVIL schools still in operation today...so things vary greatly
  15. That's true but you also have to balance that take with only one team made the playoffs until 1980....so there's a trade off that when looking at it neutrally has to be accounted for.....
  16. You did mention the Aledo coach though and they've never been in 6A either though
  17. Sometimes its harder to win at small schools because the talents can ebb and flow something fierce...Gordon Wood and GA Moore never coached at the highest level but I think both sit on the Mt Rushmore of TXHSFB Coaches for sure...especially Wood who did it for an incredibly long time and in an area when only one team made the playoffs....Wood would have probably racked up well over 450 wins if he didnt miss the bulk of 3 seasons due to military service in WWII and there were several years his teams were really, really good but finished 2nd in district and missed the playoffs 1951: 9-1 1954: 9-1 1957: 8-2 1961: 8-1-1 1963: 8-2 1966: 8-2 1973: 9-1 1975: 8-2 Eight seasons of eight wins and not making the playoffs...gotta think a few playoff wins woulda happened in those years
  18. HC son becomes QB...sling it all around! Winnsboro was Slot-T in 2021....they listed the scheme as Wing-T in 2022....need to find some highlights to see if they are actually Wing-T or if they are spread
  19. Buchanan at Aledo is probably already up there in Gordon Wood, GA Moore territory....267 wins and 7 titles is incredible...the 4 years he was AD Aledo from 2014-2018, Aledo went 75-4 w/3 titles....got to wonder if he added those 75 wins and 3 titles to the resume if he'd be considered the best of all-time to this point we are talking 342 wins and 10 state titles going into this season If Surratt stays at Carthage long enough he'll be in the talks....189-29 fifteen years in and 8/8 in state title games....he's probably gonna get to 200 this year and they are the favorites to win number nine this season
  20. Southlake was a program in decline at his arrival and they were about to jump from 4A-5A so he does deserve some credit in how he built Carroll back up and doing it while transitioning to the largest classification. Another thing people dont realize is his two years at Fossil Ridge are underrated...he got there the school was in its third year of existence and had won just two games...he does 2-7 and 5-5 there and put some foundations in place to set them up to go 8-4 the year he left and then they made the semifinals...those seniors on that semifinal credit a lot of what was built to Dodge.. There's no doubt that Dodge's career is a bit of a roller coaster, but he did more building than he gets credit for also....
  21. Southlake had won in the 90s but they had hit a lull before Dodge got there...the 5 years before Dodge arrived Carroll was 10-1, 3-6-1, 7-5, 12-2, 6-4.....not terrible but not Carroll....he got to Carroll and switched them from wishbone to spread and then guided them from old 4A to 5A winning state his third year...so he did kind of build Carroll in a way
