I was at the first Longview-Ryan game and a young Longview team got some hard lessons in Week 1...the second meeting was much more competitive obviously as a young Longview squad improved a ton during the year... Going into 2021; Ryan lost a lot (44 seniors) and their junior and sophomore classes are pretty average so a team that already lacked depth is really going to be pushed this year.... Longview is the exact opposite, the senior class that just graduated is pretty average for their standards & they are replacing those guys with a junior class thats loaded...its a group that we've been hearing about in these parts for a couple of years...add that group to a mix that already returned 14 starters and 40 lettermen and there you have it... -

In 2021 Division I the final eight teams went 83-22, Division II 76-24 and Division III 83-20 We are talking teams like Lake Travis, Austin Westlake, College Station, Katy Tompkins, China Spring, Tyler Chapel Hill, Argyle, Dumas, Stratford, Franklin and Daingerfield

I think TW is a good HS Coach, KW the jury is still out he's only had one year so a lot of time left
-
Whitehouse brings back 7 on offense, 3 defense....JV was 7-2-1 last year, so I'd say there's a pretty decent chance for improvement...especially considering they were pretty competitive in every game last year except for Texas High...
-
This is Westerberg's last job before retirement, I think he hated being AD only and wanted to enjoy the last few years doing something he actually loved
-
I dont think it had anything to do with LaPorte at all, I think that was going to be a one-year thing at most anyway...a transition job...add in the fact you have a 20 minute commute one-way vs an hour one way, plus the better pay, chance to run your own program etc....and hell he can't do any worse than what's already been done in Tarkington...it's a win-win for Coach Taylor
-
He was reassigned in Nov shortly after the conclusion of the season...he hooked up with Berneathy (who he coached with at LaPorte back in the day) to be his DC once Berneathy was hired at LaPorte at the end of Feb....he didnt openly apply for Tarkington they contacted him first and he pursued the opportunity obviously with Berneathy's support

I lump them into the Golden Triangle "general area" instead of saying SE Texas, I know its not technically correct but I basically use the two terms interchangably when talking to a statewide audience.. Basically Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Liberty, Jasper and Newton counties for me are Golden Triangle/SETX Polk and Tyler counties are close but too far north for me....Chambers county is another one that I have a hard time placing Thanks for referring to me as the face of football in Texas, nice compliment, but probably massively over-stating my importance
-
This is an odd take, they laid an egg last year but calling them a paper tiger is a little much...they've proven they are a contender....I think the new district is going to help them immensely As for how a team looks in spring ball I think its really hard to tell just because you dont have a frame of reference against other teams.....biggest thing about spring is coming out healthy and maybe settling individual position battles
-
That is correct...current assistant in the area who has been a head coach at one time
-
Starting to finally hear a name emerge for this one...former head coach in the area is all I'll say at the moment..will be calling him today to confirm
