  1. Yea, I thought little Gizzi did a great job most of the night on Asa, but Vidrine killed us.
  2. No actually this game has been very predictable every year since Burnett took over. PNG wins once every four years with the same talent as Nederland. Go figure. Nederland is better gameday coached. Better playcalling. The coaches put them into position to win. PNG has the talent on offense this year to run the three receiver set and run a balanced offense. But our play calling sucks until we are down 20+. Tatum has a great arm, is very acurate and has some pretty good receivers to throw to (DeRon, Segura, Ceigelski), but he is being held back by the piss poor playcalling. This should have been a shootout. I still think Nederland wins if PNG comes out in the three receiver set to begin the game, but I think it would have been more like 41-35. Props to the Neuman and company once again. Puting Grogan at tailback changed the complexion of that offense ten fold! PNG had to respect the run this year and put no pressure on Bellows. Congrats Bulldog nation! p.s. Neuman is also smart enough to let good ole' Matt win one every now and then so he will stick around
  3. I have to say I honestly can't stand reading a Haliburton article on PNG or Nederland. He is so over the top Nederland biased it makes me want to puke! Read the article on Huber..No mention of the tuff assignement he has coming up against PNG's DLine. Just talks about what the kid did against a week Ozen DLine. As a matter of fact there is really no mention at all of PNG in his article. But he writes about Gaspard and the article is all really about how great Grogan is and how great Nederlands ground game is!!!!Nederland this and Nederland that. : I don't mind if he writes articles on Nederland, because he knows the kids and the parents first hand, but he really needs to stay out of our locker room! We need some unbiased press! p.s. before you guys tell me to stop whining, I want to qalify this post by stating I am not alone and that even many of my Nederland friends agree he is Big Ned biased. He also said something a few years back (1998) to the PNG team when taking pictures for the newspaper before the playoffs that was totaly unprofessional.
  4. I caught your sarcasm eagle07 and that it was great. But your fellow eagle who started this thread posted something that got me boiling a bit...He said in the original post that BH was 0-3 and hadn't played anyone yet. They lost to PNG (now 3-0 all on the road including a win over Crosby as well) And they lost to Lumberton (now 3-0) Both those teams whipped 19-4a last year in bi-district and Lumberton went to the third round after beating Lamarque and PNG lost in a game that was closer than the score (26-7) indicated to eventual state champs Lamar Consolidated and little Superman!
  5. I would agree with this assesment! Come playoff time, I think two of the four will go second round and one may go three deep. Dayton will put a hurtin' on the district rep and Crosby will compete well against whoever they play from the district.
  6. 2 things: 1. This is just some guy babbling like you or I do on these boards. 2. WAC would be a killer to any LU program. Though it might be nice for the high profile sports, what about the travel for the lower profile sports. New SWC 1. Rice 2. UNT 3. UTSA 4. Tx State 5. Lamar 6. LT 7. UL 8. UH 9. SMU 10. Tulsa 11. UTEP 12. TCU Sub in Ark State. Low travel costs and fan friendly for travel. Could get a FOX SW deal for both football and basketball.
  7. The Train will keep a rollin' Raider's 24 Pie Rats 14
  8. If you look back I posted " Ozen ran it (hear they are going back to basics), Central has run it recently". Vidor has lined up and attempted the spread in the recent past. I know last year they ran mostly. But my point was that the spread has lost it's luster! And now you are seeing more teams go back to the power running games. Hell even Lamarque scrapped the spread this year, of course it ain't workin' out too well for them now is it! Where is PATitan????
  9. Why, because they didn't score 50+??? That is Matt's MO. He doesn't like to run up the score. He never has. What else didn't impress you? The 24 yards allowed in the first half before the starters came out. The 0 first downs allowed at halftime (the 1 gained was not earned-penalty). The fact that PNG didn't throw the ball all over the place with the spread offense. Tatum was dead on target all night long and could have thrown for 300+ if unleashed. Don't forget that a couple of his incompletions were drops and one would have been a long TD on the post route. The spread offense is no longer a rarity. It used to be that a defense would be at a disadvantage when preparing for the spread because they only saw it once or maybe twice a year, but not anymore. Now everybody is running it and I think this is what is making PNG so successful right now with the power running attack. I think most teams preping for the running attack are just not used to it. So far PNG has faced three teams all running the spread. Nederland runs it, Vidor runs it, Ozen ran it (hear they are going back to basics), Central has run it recently. Lumberton and PNG pound it out and are succesful lately and Nederland was a playoff regular before they went to the spread (go figure). While I agree PNG needs to throw more and use more playaction, because come playoff time you have to be more two dimensional, I can't fault the results. A couple of years ago I thought Moody was going to be a good coach after watching what they did to PNG, but this guy is a real moron. Down 28-0, late in the 3rd quarter, 4th and 3 near PNG's 45 yard line, when every one in the stadium knew that they were going to run a fake punt, he did it anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you run the fake punt when you think you can catch the defense off gaurd. Why would you not just run a play???? They had actually moved the ball a little on that drive. LCM is young and with a new coach and better direction they could be a force in a couple of years. I was shocked that the big WR #80 was only a freshman.
  10. Are you talking about Ryan Donahoe from HJ, who led his team to a state title?
  11. Since Roc got back on campus he has recruited & signed a handfull of hyped players and had success with most. A. Daniels was one of the best scorers ever at Lamar. T. Fairley was a double/double guy. L. Sanders was every bit as good as the hype. J. Davis was not a bust due to his play, but the attitude so the hype was legit. K. Dawkins is maybe the best guard we have had since the Tubbs era. J. Nabors is a SLC POY candidate (save for the injury). J. Brown has had his moments so far, but it looks like we will find out for sure this year with Nabors out! C. Todd did exactly what he was hyped up to do at LU, quality minutes as a 6th man. I think that the problem is that the hyped players are JUCO guys that are only here for a short period. While I love the players, I think the lack of signing high ranking HS "Studs" has been the biggest reason for the lack of an NCAA birth. Continuity over four years does stand for something at the low major level.
  12. LaZeek, Whats the word on Ryan Donahoe? Is he fully recovered? Will he resume his BB career? And if so where should we look to keep track of him (Navarro???)? If he can return and have a solid year at a JUCO, I would love to see him in a Cardinal uni! With one year of JUCO to get his feet under him, he could have three years at LU!
  13. They tried that junk a few years ago against PNG (when they were having success with their normal formations) and it was horrible. Might have lost the game for them. I remember walking away laughing at Mathews, thinking what an he was for trying it when PNG couldn't stop Croak and company.
  14. Not sure why they can't turn on the lights and work 24-7 ??? I know I see high mast lighting up out there, maybe they are already doing this?
  15. What about Hemmings and Dugat and Hussey before Garrett? I think you are wrong on that front. Nederlands run defense is bad. Ozen 35 Ned 31 Back and forth nail biter with Ozen wining late.
  16. 1. The UIL says no prayer at football games also, but we all think that is ridiculous. I think what LCM's anouncer does is fine. he doesn't single out any opposing players or jab at the opposition. the only think he really says is "That's good for another Bear" then the crowd "FIRST DOWN". Folks this shouldn't be much of an issue. I mean don't we play Cherokee when we get a first down. He wasn't a problem for PNG fans until a couple of years ago when Marvelous and President ripped us a new one. 2. I have to agree I was sort of down on Tatum before this year, but he has looked really good in the pocket as a Senior (when given the chance). If not for a miriad of drops the numbers would be way up. He has learned to put touch on the long ball. The OC just needs to mix it up earlier in games so Tatum can be more effective. They also need way more play action. ran it once against Crosby???? Watch the Cowboys who have a punishing running attack, they run play action 90% of the time. Just about every time Romo drops back to pass he is faking a hand off. Coach Long used it 50+% of the time as well with great success, especially the play action boot leg.
  17. Whoever said that the home stadium anouncer couldn't be biased and enthusiastic about his team??? Go to an LU basketball game and listen to them say "3 POINT BASKET BY DEEEEEEEEEEE-HOP" when LU makes a basket then just "ryan bright" in a soft voice when the visiting team scores. That's called home field advantage. Just because they don't do it like our guy Tip does it, doesn't mean it's wrong. Let's not be the stuck up brats that everyone thinks we are. I hate playing at LC-M because the home stands are tiny and we usually drop a stinker at their place. But not this year. PNG 38 LCM 7
  18. Just because you got power, doesn't mean a good "Chunk" of MC got power. No power in Groves or most of PN. That's a good chunk! But after spending the day in BC helping clean out houses, I am very excited to go home this evening to my generator powered home. God bless all those folks in BC, HF, and Orange. Going to Labelle tomorrow to help. Pray for these people they have a long road ahead.
  19. That's pretty cool man!
  20. With all of the Houston area schools affected as well, has anyone heard if they are considering extending the season one week giving the non-affected areas a week off to prep for first round games while SETX/Houston finish up???
  21. So Moody will play a 2A after a real natural disaster, but not WOS after Gustav???? Go figure!
  22. They were the closest model for Rita! The only ones forcasting Rita into Galveston. All others had it down around Matagorda Bay. If you look at the Rita Models at 72 hours versus the Ike Models at 72 hours they are eerily similar. Lets hope they don't end up similar!
  23. I laugh at the people that say PNG squeeked by BH. Look at the stats. The score does not always show the entire story. A Win is a win in the end, but PNG dominated that game on both sides of the ball. BH had 200 total yards (of which 45+ came at the end when PNG went prevent) and PNG was over 350. BH scored both TD's on the next play after PNG fumbles (both times they had the ball inside their 20). That's part of the game, but it wasn't like BH was doing anything that PNG couldn't handle. I will admit that Crosby was a nail bitter and PNG really played poorly in the first half, but MB did what he does best with his defense and made some adjustments at the half and got that young QB of Crosby rattled. They also opened up the playbook on offense. I am not sold on PNG being a big threat in the playoffs, but I do see them getting one of the top spots in the District. 1. Central 2. PNG 3. Lumberton 4. Anybody's guess (Nederland and Ozen will at least be battle tested).
  24. What you guys are not taking into acount is that the evacuation of the middle Texas Coast will create quite a bit of traffic up into Houston and Waller/Bryan-College Station areas begining tonight and well into Thursday and Friday. I think that probably played a pretty big roll in the cancellation. Also remember Rita was forcast to hit Matagorda Bay at this same point (72 Hrs) in 2005 with the models actually looking almost identical to Ike. We all know how that turned out.
