I wonder how this theory plays out across other sports such as basketball, soccer, baseball, and girls sports like volleyball, girls basketball, and softball. If this were correct wouldn't the curve of multiple state championships play out across other sports outside of football?
Basketball is the only sport were the inner city schools thrive, but to be fair it only takes two standouts in basketball to win a state title. In a big city school with 1500-2500 students there are going to often times be a few kids that are doing the AAU thing. Also seems like the big city schools have started hanging their hats on basketball. It is a much cheeper sport than football. Baseball, Softball, Voleyball...It's most of the same schools mentioned in the football article. Or at least schools from similiar demographics.

THSF Preseason State Rankings, all classifications

TC is not the 11th best team in 4A! And there are not 29 teams better than Nederland. Might outta swap those two. -
A little Sunday morning viewing: Bear attacks Indian!!!
badndn replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
That almost backfired on LCM. Bears had a very good team that year and PNG was rebuilding. PNG came out fired up and jumped out to a nice first half lead, but LCM came back and won it in the second half. Saddest part in that was that no one from LCM staff took control. It took PNG admins to squelch it, both times! -
You guys keep pointing out the smaller schools 3A and down, but FWoodFans point was correct...sort of...At the 4A and 5A levels where there are more big money schools, the big money schools are winning. Its the big city suburban schools taking home the prize more often then not. When was the last time a Dallas, FW, Austin(and dont count Westlake cause it aint in the city), Houston, SA, EP team won a title? Its because the rich kids spend all year training with their private speed and agility coach or strength and conditioning coach. Think about, would you rather coach a handful of great athletes that work on FB from August to November or a team full of kids that eat, sleep, and breath FB 24/7. Oh and the later choice pays twice as much! I think the biggest difference in the two is the line play and QB play. The wealthy linemen goes 6'3" 270 and is fit and the QB spends all year learning the hardest position in sports. Where the poorer linemen is 6'3" 300 and slow and the QB is way behind the curve.

Not bad. Passing game looks very good with both QBs. Still need to beef up the ground game. Cropper #9 can fly as we saw tonight, but tuff going when you gettin hit in the backfield. Yeoj, Rose 36 led district in yards last year.
They had to be content with practicing against another team... Nothing wrong with that. H-F gained a great deal. PN-G gained experience for the young players on their squad...
BINGO I guess Central did spring fb?? Didnt see any scrimmage info.
-
Totally shocked to see PN-G scrimmage a 3A team picked 7th in their district. You don't gain anything by this. Tx City will be a good opponent which will bring out the weaknesses in PN-G. Wait until next week to evaluate your team.
Two things. 1. PNG under BF has always had spring football so only one scrimmage. When they decided to forgo spring fb this year it left the scrambling for a first week scrimmage. HF was available. 2. HF was a 7th place team, but they were very very young. Still young, but they have talent. Most of that team Friday night was Sophs and juniors, much like PNG. C. Anytime you get to hit someone else its a plus.

If you want hitting in the Orange area I would recommend Jeremy Green at Grand Slams up by LCM.
did i hear correctly that next year they will have smaller schools playing one another ? i guess if a school is like 450 that will be schools that same size , instead of a school that is 450 playing a school 1004 ? im freaking out that they will have 4 schools coming out of one district going too the playoffs .
3A will be like 2A and 1A are now. Divided into 3A Div I and Div II. They will split the difference between the top half in 3A in enrollment and bottom half and form new districts 3A Div I (top half) and 3A Div II (bot half)...With four from each that means more playoff teams! ::) Of course it will actually be called 4A! And 4A becomes 5A and so on. Not because they are adding a larger classification for those gynormous 5A's, but because six man needs some love too and it will now be 1A with everyone else moving up!!! Think about 5A for a minute...Lets say that for every 100 students theres 1 good FB player and for every 500 theres a star FB player. If you are a 3A with 460 students you got 5 good FB players and 1 star...A 3A with 990 students has 10 good FB players and 2 stars. Still good odds for the smaller 3A. 5A with 2300 students has 23 good FB players (a full team) and 4 maybe 5 stars...A 5A with 6000 students has 60 good FB players and a team full of stars (12). Makes for interesting practices and depth that is unreal. So how can they compete??
-
Its not the enrollment numbers for these two. Remember Silsbee and especially WOS were powerhouses as tiny 4A schools before being realigned. WOS still whoops up on most of the area 4A teams in pre-district and I expect Silsbee to be pretty successful against 20-4A this year.

Summer Creek has eyes on State Football title

The only eyes SC will have on the State Football Title this year will be in front of the TV (FoxSports) in December! :D -

I just looked at the schedules...Silsbee is playing 4 teams from our district. Should be some good mudslinging on here when we start comparing. ;D
That was the case last year. Silsbee played PN-G, LC-M, Lumberton and Livingston. Did not see much "mudslinging" when comparing.
No comparisons last year because only Liv really had a playoff team. The other three were down at the bottom so no real chatter. I suspect Liv, PNG and LCM to be in the mix for spots 2, 3 & 4 in 2013.

What are the odds (LC-M edition)

Can LC-M win 6 or more games? Can they possibley make a run at the playoffs? Lets here what you think.
Like said, this is District 20-4A. It is one of the toughest districts in the State! Anything can happen at any given moment!
How do you figure that? LCM gets three tuff 3A squads no doubt, but go check some of the other 20-4A schedules. Ozen and Central get 5A PAM and WB. Central tacks on WOS for good measure (should be interesting for Foreman). Nederland gets What should be very good Crosby and GCM and caps it with A state ranked Angleton. Livingston plays Dayton and Silsbee and PNG gets Silsbee, WOS then at state ranked SC. This district could be beat to....well you know what by the time district rolls around. No one is backing down from a fight including the Bears. -

Welcome aboard Allen. We look forward to working with you and are very excited to have you on board. Your tireless efforts to help kids fulfill their goals of playing college softball while earning a degree will be much appreciated within the Orange Crush organization. -
Hamshire Fannett will they or won't they?????
badndn replied to Jackthehammer's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Silsbee and BC will both fall well below the 4A (or 5A as it will become) lower end enrollment number. Both schools will remain 3A (4A), but they should be 4A Div I which I would guess would be between 725 and 1000 and look something like this: 4A Div I (with guess numbers) Silsbee - 820 BC - 775 Jasper - 725 Carthage - 735 Splendora - 980+ (may move up to 5A with growth) Huffman - 980+ (may move up to 5A with growth) Cleveland - 920 4A Div II WOS - 675 HJ - 570 HF - 530 OF - 525 Tarkington - 580 Liberty - 570 Buna - 475 Kirbyville - 450- (may cut it close) -
Vidor 2013 schedule analysis and poll
badndn replied to dBerrySports's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The Vidor SC game would have been much closer if Vidor had some passing. SC's defense was off balance w/ the run. Some strategic passing could have resulted in huge plays. The threat of a pass would have forced SC's DB's to back up. They cheated down the entire game. Now what has PNG done to earn any talk of being in the running for district? They were waaaay off the radar last year. No way they improve that much in one year.
Man, I never would have thought I would say this, but "I agree with DemDawgs". Vidor's sick running game is legit. they run that offense almost to perfection...The thing that is missing is a QB that will hit on 4 out of the 5 wide open throws he has to make a game. For that offense to succeed deep in the playoffs the QB has to hit 75+%. When he does, the threat of a passing game has to be taken serious durring the week of preperation leading up to the game and it will make that running game that much better. Vidor posters get upset all the time when people say they have no passing game, but what they don't realize is that teams don't spend much time preparing for Vidor to throw the ball with any success. They feel like they can afford to give up 1 or 2 big plays in the passing game if the extra time spent on the running game gets them the ball back quicker. Now if Vidor hit 5 big passing plays a game every week (and watching them the past several years those plays are there)...you gotta prepare for it and there is only so much time in a week for preparation. -
Vidor 2013 schedule analysis and poll

Vidor's playoff history 1964, 1978, 2000, 2009, 2011 Almost every decade, like clockwork.
The truth speaks for itself. Vidor's every decade playoff history is the only thing consistent about Vidor.
There is one huge thing that you forgot to factor in to this whole equation... up until the 1980's only 1 team made the playoffs and 2 up until the 1990's...With four teams qualifying each year the chances are that several of those Vidor teams from before 2000 would have made the playoffs. The fact is that Vidor has become a legitimate playoff contender since 2000 with four teams in. They may not have made the playoffs every year, but they have not been the old cellar dweller that they were for most of the 20th century. Don't look for this recent pattern to stop...Having seen their youth programs progress, they will remain a player for a spot for some time. -
I figured Boras had a deal to get him to the bigs quickly to get his clock started. Being a possible free agent top of the line starting pitcher at 28 or 29 could be worth hundred million or more. The younger a starting pitcher gets to free agency the better.
-
Not to mention "With the first pick in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, the Houston Astros select Carlos Rodon, left handed pitcher from North Carolina State University" Another top of the rotation pitcher who should fast track to the MLB. And a lefty to break up the right handed dominant future. Cosart was the first in a long line of good looking prospects to make the big club this year. Look for Villar at short soon, Springer in CF, Singleton at 1B and possibly Wojo in the rotation. Also Stoffel and Zied in the bull pen. First wave just started. 2014 should see Appel, Folty and Perez. And 2015 Santana, McCullers, Deshields, Correa and Rodon.
Why is this?? He's not moving for athletic purposes or moving to a team with in a 75 miles of his highschool.
Correct. He should not have to sit out at all as long as the paper work is submitted in time. We had a kid transfer from San Angelo who started as a Sophomore on SA's 5A playoff team and he had to sit out first 5 games last year...My guess was because he had not completed the paperwork in time?? He played week 6 and became our leading tackler second half of season after Warlick was injured.

Nice...Top 5 at ASA A is very good. Good luck at the SN. -
Whether its right or not Craig, there are a lot of HS students that would not finish HS if not for a sport. No one is saying you are wrong about the Parents Failing them, what they are saying is that HS Coaches often help these students to become productive members of society when others have failed them, thus they are just as important as teachers.

As far as salaries go, pretty sure Allman left his Alma Mater at Permian for $125K+ as Austin Westlake a few years back (less than a month after Farcloth left as Permians OC). Westlake suprisingly went to the 5A title game his first year. PNG has a boys AD (Faircloth) and girls AD (Comeaux) which has worked well for girls and boys sports programs.
