Faircloth took those same athletes and went 3 in a row. Last year was difficult. To his credit Faircloth tried to make the change at QB to the Sophomore and moved the tall QB to WR, where he really wanted to play, but the Soph got hurt. Next few years will be a tell tell on BF. Very talented Soph down to 8th grade groups. Kinda like Mathews had in 2010, everyone is entitled to a let down year. Lets see what Jeff does without Montana and his talented group of compadres.
I agree with you. Although as much as I hate to say it, PNG will be loaded for more years then just Soph to 8th grade. The 7th grade and 6th graders have alot of potential. PNG might be in the playoffs after next year for about 6 years in a row. I still think ya'll might struggle next year and have a young team if they bring up all the Sophs.
Agreed. But outside of Nederland the district wont be as tough 2-8 next year. Kinda like this year it was as tough 3-8. Silsbee, Summer Creek and WOS right outta the box. This young group could be 0-3 before district. On another note, isn't it great how there has always been a Barbay in this conversation (top 5). -

PAM has talent, but compared to some of the other region 3 5A schools they aren't anymore loaded. Remember PAM was a combination of 3 schools, but they still have a rather small enrollment in the 5A ranks and it's shrinking. I think Kenny has done very well with PAM. Jeff Mathews has done a good job with Vidor, but they are 2-3 in the playoffs the last four seasons and didn't win a DC, actually finishing 3rd twice and folks forget three years ago they were 2-8. In comparison Faircloth at PNG in that same time frame has one DC and two 2nd place finishes and went 3-3 in the playoffs, but folks remember only this past seasons 2-8 team. Faircloth's teams have been better than Mathews teams over that span, not by much. Overall Dist Playoffs PNG 28-18 18-10 3-3 1 DC - 2 2nd Vidor 28-18 17-11 2-3 2 2nd - 1 3rd This is why I can't put Mathews in the top 5...Because I can't put Faircloth in the top 5.
NDN, the difference is PNG historically has had decent teams with a state appearance in 99 along with several playoff berths recently before BF took over. Matthews took over a dead program and brought them to life. There may have been one F-A-N that said that about Kenny, but there were several that were bashing him. It's not like there are alot of PAM fans on here anyways. ;D
Common misconception that PNG was a perrinial playoff team before Faircloth took over. They actually went to the playoffs 3 times in the nine seasons before Faircloth. With several 3-6 and 5-5 seasons mixed in. Also Mathews has been at Vidor for 10+ years (not sure how long) and only recently have they had any success. The guy has done very well in changing the overall sports culture at Vidor. Just not willing to say he is a top 5 local coach...Yet. -

1. Bryan Barbay - Coldspring (State Title and deep playoff runs make him #1 on list) 2. Larry Neumann--Nederland (longevity counts, but gotta get his team to a state title or others on list will pass him.) 3. Cornel Thompson - WOS (can't discount what he has meant to WOS program through the years) 4. Kenny Harrison--PA Memorial (had PAM on the cusp, will he get them back?) 5. WT Johnston--Newton (2013 could be the year of the Eagle) -
Lamar at A&M CC game thread/LAMAR WINS 67-63!!!!!
Congrats Lamar...you won the battle of BAD TEAMS! ::) ::)
Don't knock it...They been losing that battle. -
Not sure what they were thinking by trading away Jed Lowrie... They got back some prospects, but I'm not sure how close they are to being in the majors... Not trying to down them, but they will more than likely have to work very hard to not lose 100!!!
Trade was smart. They got one big power bat in Carter who hit 16 HR in 200 AB last year for Oakland and is only 26 years old. He will K alot, but should hit 30+ dingers and has a history of walking some. With the lack of power bats this was a good pickup. Stros were gonna lose 100 with or without Lowrie so getting Carter and possibly Stassi the young Catcher in the deal who appears to have some power as he hit 15 Hr in 300-400 ABs already a couple times in the Minors. If Stassi could hit 20 Hrs in 600 abs in the MLB in a few years and call a good game then thats an excellent pickup. Lowrie was a hot comodity now based on his best pro season yet last year before the injury. Stros strike while the irons hot especially since two of there best prospects are SS in Villar and Correa. Villar could be with the club in September.

Central head football coach applicants
badndn replied to bobbymcgee's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Big question for Central is who is under Center. They also had a jitterbug from the Freshman team that I would expect to see some time on Varsity in some capacity. -
I think he'll make a good fit, but the most important thing for him or anyone is putting together a good coaching staff. I've always believed you're only as good as the people you surround yourself with, no matter how great you think you are. Every great leader understands that, be it head football coach or whatever leadership position you hold.
Ding, Ding Ding, Ding....We have a winner! Great post. If given the job, does he have the connections at the HS level to put together a good HS staff. We know he has connections at the collegiate level, but those guys aren't leaving for HS assistant jobs! On another note, you think Mitchell would have flourished under Brown's tutelage! Coulda been special.
One correction, PNG has by far and away outnumbered Nederland since Faircloth arrived. They win the numbers game... but don't think they will be able to pull a win against Nederland this year. Should get interesting year after though.
I agree with this DOG!

AAW, so are you saying that he won last year with Roc's team? ::) ::) ::).... ;)
Not really. He did win with a team Roc recruited but couldn't win with. ;)
This is what I am hanging my hat on. He prooved he could coach a talented group to play as a unit and win unlike his predessesor. So the question now is can he bring in the talent to be coached up to win or is he just not good enough in the recruiting game to get the talent.
Lamar probably offered him a full scholarship. Generally, the bigger schools want kickers and punters to walk-on.
Great point! Which makes no sense. These guys lead your team in scoring. The better they are the more you score so why won't they pay them?
-
Lamar just got a bigtime weapon! Cards can score from 30-35 out now. That's a 30+ point boost in season points if he can duplicate what he did in HS.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Montana the only 20-4A guy to make it on the all state defense?
Incorrect. Couron made 2nd team and Stampley made HM. So whats your point. We all know that All-State is so subjective. It is a great honor, but it's also voted on by folks who don't come down here and watch these kids. I mean Dravanti Johnson was 4A All-State Defensive player of the year his senior year, yet he was second team All-District! The folks who saw him on a regular bases got it right. The folks who knew he was a 4 star UT recruit voted on that fact alone. My personal oppinion is that Montana was a better defensive player than offensive and had he played only defense he would have put up huge numbers. That said his offensive accomplishments probably outshined his defensive accomplishments this season. Now did they outshine those of Mr. Fisk who I think is the main competition on the offensive side? My best guess is he will win one of the two awards because the voters will not want his accomplishments to go without award. If the WRS had an overall area MVP...Then it's hands down Montana Quirante.

I would ask raiderblue to go see how many other SLC teams or FCS teams have our local talent on them now. Those would be the kids that LU missed out on because the kids at FBS schools were not going to LU! Little heads up, there aren't many at all. So it looks to me like most of the recruitable SETX FCS prospects are in the LU program. Reasons from PNG was recruited by LU this year, but liked SFA better. Not LUs fault. Kid just wanted to get away.

What has happened to Lady Raider Basketball? Didn't they used to be a local dominant force?
In softball you get run ruled ,impossible to win 40-0 but Ozen and Central have been run ruled 15-0 by the likes of PNG,Nederland,LCMS,and other teams as well, after you get beat so badly you either get better or you quit.Don't take me wrong, I am not advocating running the score up in any sport ,but don't pretend the score is not lopsided in other sports because they are.
Its 15 after 3 and the game doesnt end as soon as you score 15 unless its in the bottom of the 3rd. Son it is actually very possible to win 40-0. PNG has been up on Central 15-0 after 1 and played two more innings without winning 40-0. It's called having some respect for your opponent.
-
PNG runs the score up on teams in other sports, that there good at. So, I have no sympathy for them. You still have to play basketball.
PROOVE IT! I know for a fact that the PNG Softball team has never beaten the Central Lady Jags 40-0 when they could have easily. Coach Fontenot/Buchanan will not allow it!
How do you know coach brown and her staf didnt put in the secon or third string. Those girls are trying to get to austin and it will take everyone on the bench. it not fair for the subs to get in and play pitty ball either.
So did Ozen take the press off in the second half? And if so did they slow things down and just play a half court game milking the clock some. I ask this because this would be a good time to practice this. Every team needs to learn how to slow the game down and milk the clock some. It will be needed come playoff time if they plan to make it to Austin as stated above. Now if PNG just gave up, then so be it. Should never just give up. I know a few of those girls and I know they have never given up before, but I wasn't there so??

beaumont athletes are not equalling team wins
badndn replied to 5GallonBucket's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yep...It's easier to win when you only have to put 5 guys out on the court and one of them can just out athlete everyone else no matter what the other 4 do. This doesn't fly with 11 kids on a the field going in different directions. -
