1. Cibilo will get one of the top coaches in the state from the 4A/3A level. The guy at Navasota maybe - Fedora.
2. Biggest problem for BISD in hiring a new coach is the pay scale. BISD pays all three HC the same, so if one gets a raise they all do meaning a $10K raise amounts to $30K. Is BISD going to do that or will they change their policy?
3. Correct. Westlake was able to pry Allman away from his alma mater and one of the most storied programs in HS football in the nation which he was building back into a power (Odessa Permian). All it took was $125K a year. Those schools also seem to get a lot of ex professional athletes kids!
4. I wouldn't call what Central plays as "street ball". They have a plan and work the plan with Wash, but watching them in some big games over the past few years it was the plan that I questioned? Specifically I can think of the Humble playoff game. Central should have won that game. Mitchell could have run for 300 yards, but up until the last two minutes of the game, Washington wasn't using him. Everyone in the stands saw it from early in the game. I walked out of the Butch that night shaking my head.
5.
Anybody watch how u c an build a power house football team
Have lots of MONEY!!!!! Look at the top 5A and 4A programs in Texas year in and year out. Allen - Money Katy - Money Southlake - Money Lake Travis - Money Ausitn Westlake - Money Pearland - Money Cibbolo Steele - Money Aledo - Money Highland Park - Money Sure the occasional Lancasters pop through to get to or win a Title, but the above mentioned programs win regularly.
6. Yes. Its because he was involved in Athletics. NCAA rules govern all collegiate sports.
7. LB yes, but he ain't too small to play. DI Safety.
8. Why do you guys keep getting stuck on 20-4A? Did Montana put up better defensive numbers than Lynch at WOS? Or how about Fisk at 5A PAM on the offensive side? Against the likes of North Shore and Laporte he put up 2100 passing and 900 rushing and 32 TDs. A good argument could be made for him. Us outside of Vidor agree Montana was a great two way threat and would win the WRS MVP, but its not just who was the best overall player.
9. That was the first game Doty has been eligible for. It was his first organized basketball game in 2 years. Remember he played football at Oregon for a year and had to sit out a year after he transfered to LU. If Mitchell can get 12+ a game and Doty can spell him and Minor and get 6 to 10 that's good production. Hondo (#5) looked pretty bad at point.
10. I'm guessing you can only be nominated for one or the other. Tremain Thomas would have been a shoe in to be a finalist for both if so.
11. I'd be shocked if we saw another 2 win season. May not be an 8 win season, but at least 3 W's. ;) 2 of the 4 defenses under Faircloth gave up less than 13 PPG in District. Even a bad Faircloth PNG offense would win enough to make the playoffs if they only had to score 14 to win.
12. Dockofthebay, once again, yes Montana was in my opinion the best overall player in the area this year because he excelled on both sides of the ball, but the question is which side will he be a finalist. If there was a local Heisman he would be the winner hands down, but the WRS is top Offense and top Defense. I'd like to see Montanas defensive stats. I know they are good, but I would bet that Lynch and Courons numbers might be better. That said, I suspect his offensive numbers would be hard to beat. Fact is there were a lot of great defensive players this year. More so than most years. Offensively Q stands out this year with 2000+ combined yards and 35+ TDs. So in my opinion Montana will be an offensive finalist and will win the WRS award for top offensive player. I think Lynch will win Defensive award.
13. What's comical is you folks from Vidor that don't get it. This is a very legit question. Which award will he win? There are TWO winners! WRS is not about best overall. No one in this area doubts that he was the best OVERALL player. As far as Lamar goes, I think it's been made very clear that he is going on a mission trip (2 years) and then to BYU...So I ask...Why would Lamar waste its time and money recruiting him?
14. Maybe they have redrawn their distribution line to HF. Its not a GT team. If so Quirante and Sezar would have made it as well as several from BMT and Silsbee. It looks to be mainly Ned, PAM, PNG, HF, BC, WOS and OF. ?? When the team started the Newspaper was the main form of media and damn near everyone from Winnie over to Orange south of I10 got a PA News. Not the case anymore. Papers are struggling to survive and they have much smaller staffs to cover things like this. The SETXSports.com Super Gold Team Big school and Small School!
15. There is no denying Q was the best all around player in 20-4A this year, but the issue for the WRS award is which side of the ball should he be up for. Remember the WRS award is broken down into Best Defensive player and Best Offensive player. So was he the best defensive player in the area? Couron, Lynch, pick a WOS DB, are all very deserving over Montana. Was he the best offensive player? The QB from PAM was very good. My guess is that there were so many exceptional defensive players this year, he will get the nomination from the offensive side since he really put up very good numbers. Again remember the WRS is not the best overall player like the Heisman.
16. Not sure. He was used late and others were used some both ways, but I think it would have only helped a bit. Running game and ineffective QB play was not the WR's fault.
17. You were mostly correct...The PNG offense took a major downturn in 2012. I think that was one of the biggest reasons for the 2-8 season. PNG offenses under Faircloth averaged 29.4, 36.8 and 33.7 the previous 3 years with very good running games that averaged over 6 ypc and rarely fumbled and a passing attack that completed 60 - 65% of it's passes...The 2012 version averaged around 4 yards per carry, Completed about 51% with 14 interceptions and several fumbles. In 2009 five kids caught double digit passes. In 2010 three did. In 2011 five again. In 2012 only two had double digit catches and only one of those was a WR.
18. Not bad 87...Not bad... I think every team has a few fans that think their team is way better than they are each year...I for one was pretty realistic with this PNG team from the get go, they were 1-9 as Freshman so!!! I think I said PNG may vie for the 4th spot, but only because teams 3-8 were much weaker than in years past (I don't think anyone would argue that I got that right).
19.
Badndn....I agree on reasons why 2012 went poorly for PNG... Think the Offensive woes will see improvement next season....what about running game....is there someone coming in with solid attack. 2-3 years from now, it sounds like if adjustments are made, PNG could be fighting for it DT again. I think enough bugs in the ears regarding Defense have not gone "unheard" after this season  at the Reservation. Also, agree that winning the line of scrimmage is where so many successful teams win it.  Alabama always does this well.  Doesn't really matter who is back there running for them, with holes that open, I could run through them (well, not really, not too much running anymore).  Do you know about running attack that PNG has to look forward to?
Brant Halfin will be a Jr next year and was the bell cow for JV for much of the season. He reminds me of Harmon and Bertrand alot. He is quick between the tackles and always moving forward. He wont wow you with spead, but just like Harmon and Bertrand he will move the chains. And to complement him they have a Sophomore to be, named Cropper that is very fast and elusive that could see some time next year as well (I would suspect he could be the KO return guy on Varsity and could get 4 or 5 carries, maybe even a few catches in space to get him outside). The backup RB on JV, Duhon I think was his name, ran very well also when Halfin was out late in the season. The key again to the running game will be better line play. Most of them return so they will have experience. I would be shocked if the running game didnt vastly improve next season. Which will improve the passing game and the defense.
20. I am bored. So I went back to 1999 took the ppg in district given up minus the worst game since everyone is entitled to have one and here are the results. Very Interesting considering we ran out of the I and relied on our defense for the MB days. Yr    PPG (District Finish)              Yr    PPG (District Finish) 99 - 13 (1st)                                09 - 12.2 (1st) 00 - 11.8                                    10 - 27.5 (2nd) 01 - 27                                        11 - 12.8 (2nd) 02 - 11.5                                    12 - 33.5 03 - 11 (1st) 04 - 16.6 (1st) 05 - 20.7 06 - 23.7 07 - 16.7 (1st) 08 - 22.3 Two of PNGs best years defensively (2000 and 2002) they did not finish in the top three in district running the I, yet running the spread they had one of the worst years defensively in 2010 and finished 2nd and went three deep. Three playoff appearances in four years...Four the previous 10 years. I'll stick with Faircloth. I got faith in him. He does have the 3rd and 4th best defenses in the past 14 years sprinkled in with those two bad defenses. I think he needs to get a good DC and keep him for a while. If I'm not mistaken this year was DC #3 (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Also notice since they went to 3 and then 4 teams in the playoffs, PNG has never qualified any lower than 2nd...Interesting.
21.
When they were running the spread yes... hmmm... switch away from spread, play good defense, run spread, defense is gassed and can't stop anyone... sound familiar.  Your analogy is missing something.
You can run the spread and still ball control. We had two of our three highest single season rushing results under Faircloth. And it's no coincedence that those two teams went a combined 19-6 and 3-2 in the playoffs. I think the traditional pro-style offenses and run heavy attacks do lead to better defenses, but they also can lead to poor offenses when you dont have the studs up front to manhandle your opponent. We saw a lot of that through the years with MB. Every three or four years we would have the hosses up front to whoop folks and we would make the playoffs, but the other three years in between resulted in 3 to 5 win seasons and no playoffs. Watching the HS state games most of the teams participating in those games from 1A on up ran some form of a spread attack. Katy whoops you at the line of scrimmage running out of the I, but lets be honest, they get the top athletes from the Katy ISD so they always have the hosses up front. Cedar Park also ran a pro style. In 2011 the PNG defense ranked 2nd to Nederland in ppg in the district and that included the 42 points we gave up to Livingston in the first game. Points given up the other 6 district games - 24, 10, 7, 7, 15, 14...Thats 12.8 ppg over the final six games. Take out Nederlands worst district game, the 41 Ozen scored on them, and that great Nederland defense gave up 11.3 ppg. Vidor who everyone talked so much about there defense that year and who runs the polar opposite of the spread gave up 18.8 ppg when taking out their worst game in district. Yes 2012 was a very bad year defensively, but it was also a very bad year offensively which I think had just as much to do with our poor season.
22. Isnt the RB returning also.
23.
This is why pro football teams measure your intelligence in camp now, not your tackles.  They want to know if you are smart enough to learn what they teach You can be all district in high school but not good enough for D1 ;)
That reminds me of the great B.B Davis at Lamar. When he went to the NBA (Kansas City Kings if I remember correctly) they said he had all the talent in the world, but couldnt pick up the game plans! Led to a very short NBA career.
24. I recall a 4 or 5 year span there where Nederland had this same problem. They could score, but couldnt stop anyone and look at them know!
