permian is not the school it once was.i doubt faircloth would apply for the job.
It pains me to say it and I'll probably get alot of heat from those that wear the purple tinted glasses, but the same could be said about PNG! Faircloth and Allman prooved a few years back that Permian still has the athletes and resources to compete for a 5A State Title with the right coaches. As someone with some ties to the Odessa area I can tell you that with the two 5A schools in Odessa, given the right coaching staff, Permian can and will get the top athletes from both for football. You are talking about the top football players from a combined enrollment of 5500-6000 students all at one school. Could westbrook compete for a state title each year with a good staff and getting the football talent from around Beaumont...Yes.

I'm with you JohnnyArm. Walker prooved his worth as a DB last year and can play wildcat QB and WR. Morse has big time potential. It wouldn't make sense to have him sit for two years when Walker can help you at several other positions.

Former Central Standout to sign with D-1 School
This guy was quite a player when he was at Central...I wish him the best of luck...very athletic d-lineman
Yes he was. The JUCO route has worked for other area standouts as well. The Runningback from PA that went JUCO then starred at K-State. I can think of many a 6'3" or 6'4" 210-220 pound DE in HS with great skills that could have gone JUCO and gained 30-40 pounds of muscle and gotten valuable playing experience and become a viable 6'4" 250 lb DI DE. -

Yes, for those that recall, Faircloth left for PNG in late January early February that year. Then Allman (the Permian Head Coach) left unexpectedly in March for Westlake. The Permian folks were peeved because had they known Allman was leaving they would have retained Faircloth. Faircloths 2-8 record this year would have an impact on most positions, but probably not at Permian. I hope he stays, but wouldn't be suprised if he at least applied. It is a premier job in HS football nationwide. Of course Allman left for Westlake and a huge paycheck and he graduated from Permian, so I'm not sure what they pay. I would have thought that they would have tried to match Westlakes $125K per year (which was at the time the top in texas) to keep Allman since he had helped re-build that program back into a power. He won a state title his first year at Westlake and just lost in the semis last week this year, while Permian has dropped back, so Permian probably should have ponied up!

article mentions Lamar as 1 of 4 invites to SBC
badndn replied to UNLV's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I guess the big debate is would you rather as a fan see: your team go 11-0 and maybe 13-0 and win an FCS National Title. or your team go 7-4 or 8-3 with big losses to SEC and Big 12 teams, but wins in the SBC and get a third rate bowl game. The answer is going to be a mixed bag. Money says 7-4 in the SBC. Most fans want to win all the time, so SLC. As far as the other sports, I'm just not so sure it matters too much. Mens Basketball maybe. -
This team will probably have more Junior and Sophomore starters from game one on than any PNG team in recent history. That said they will take some lumps, especially since they get Silsbee (returning a great QB/RB combo), Summer Creek (a 5A school ;) also returning a great QB), WOS (who is always good) and Nederland (who will be DC favorites again) all within the first 5 games. The talent and football savy of this young group should be worth the wait of maturation for us NDN fans. Some names to keep in mind: Sophomores to be - Morse, Giblin, Wages, Moran, Rembert, Ardoin, Cropper, Valentine, Langston Juniors to be - Walker, Peveto, Murdoch, Sparks, Halfin, T. Smith, Hughes, Mayfield, Benoit, Ramirez, Lane Senoirs to be - Rose, Romero, Dawson, Broussard, Coy, Wardlow, Mangini, Hanratty, Orozco, Bryan, Bruer, Milan

You're not seeing the big picture...MONEY. You can lose in the SLC and go broke or lose in the SBC and make money because the big money games will be more prevalent. The LSU, UT and A&Ms of the world are steering away from FCS opponents. -
Central QB Mitchell has Lamar Offer
badndn replied to BMTSoulja1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Considering Green went to PV A&M last year, I would consider Lamar Football a step up for Mitchell. Based on what I saw out of the two QBs the last several years I thought Green was the better QB prospect. Thats not a knock on Mitchell as he was the best QB I saw in SE TX this year and could play the position at the FCS level and would benefit greatly from a full time QB coach. Congratulations to Him. I hope to see him with the Cardinal helmet on next year. -

Door mat? Aren't the Cards reigning SLC Men's Basketball Champs? Baseball always competes well, Golf is a top in the nation, Track is always very good. The only sport not competing is Football. Which is an issue since its the reason to go FBS. -
LAMAR vs. BAYLOR Game thread/Baylor wins 85-68
badndn replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
They shot 57% in the second half against ULaLa last night. Maybe the shooting touch is coming around. I think we will see a lot of this throughout SLC play. One night, Lights Out, next night the lights go out, next night lights never get turned on. A win at Edinburgh would be great headed into SLC play. -
Lamar needs to push for the Sun Belt. A tough conference, with all the changes taking place, I see the Sun Belt equal to the new CUSA.
Agreed. Sunbelt would be on par with the new CUSA.

Bulldog8 "We did not see the same Ozen team you are refering, our freshman could have hung 100 points on them. They scored 1 td, 48-6" PNG Freshman had to rally late to beat the Panther Freshman. They had some playmakers the night we faced them.

Vidor's Quirante heads up 20-4A All District teams
badndn replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
62 JJ, I don't think the guy was being cocky when he stated "don't get hung up on position". Think he just misinterpreted your question. To answer your question, some time in the 90's they stopped placing all MVPs and any other superlative awards within the first team. This gave them an opportunity to place a few extra kids on first team. As far a Montana Quiranta goes he may or may not have been the best QB or LB, but he was hands down the Most Valuable Player in the district excelling both ways. If you were playing Vidor that coming Friday Night, you spent much of the week centered around him on both sides of the ball. -
Saw the Smith kid play on Nederland JV. I was impressed, thought he could play on Friday nights. PNG will be young. A lot of Soph and Junior starters next year. Rose returns at WR as a playmaker for whoever is at QB (I think Morse gets the knod). Walker proved in short time that he was a valuable DB and could play WR. Not gonna be easy going for the young injuns. Get Silsbee with Sr Reed, then WOS, who will be very good again, then SC at SC.
-
Nederlands JV finished 5-2, PNG and Liv finished tied at 6-1. Livingston will be in the mix. DC will still go through Nederland. Ozen had some really good Freshman this year (QB, WR and a LB). They will be tough in a few years.

I saw this...Embarassing to say the least. -
Nederland will be in the running again, and I think PNG will be back in contention next year. The other two will probably be Ozen and possibly LCM or Vidor.
Gotta agree. Nederland will be in the mix again for DC. The JV QB was pretty good and I hear they had another kid as backup on Varsity that was pretty good, so they should be solid once again. PNG will be young with a bunch of Sophomores and a few Freshman (possibly) and Juniors who got PT this year, but much more talented than 2012. Youth could take some time to catch up to speed of the game on Friday nights. Vidor will chug along. They will not be the Pirates of the past two years, but they will not be the Vidor of old either. I expect them to compete for a spot. Ozen had a very talented group of Freshman and JV. Nelson should be able to have them competing. LCM will return a good QB, but not sure what else they return. Will the loss of Sezar impact them as greatly as one might expect? Besides they had an outstanding HS QB a few years back and didn't make the playoffs. Central without Mitchell? With Washington?? Livingston had a very good JV. I think they compete for a DC soon, but youth will take some lumps much like PNG next year. This leaves Lumberton. Hey the Lumberton Freshman team will be good next year! Or maybe not as many of them may be on Varsity.

So Leander Rouse, Georgetown and Cedar Park all still alive in 4A, all neighbors.
-
Georgetown reminds me of the PNG 1999 team. Unranked. Got little notice. Had a great QB that was under recruited before the playoffs, but earned a Big 12 scholly via play in the playoffs. Had an under-rated defense. Good Luck to Georgetown.

Nederland VS Georgetown.....REGION 3 SHOWDOWN
badndn replied to thedogs1987's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yea, I'm the one who looks like a fool. Again, ONE playoff win in three years. In that same time, Vidor, PNG, Ozen, Nederland, Dayton and Crosby all won more playoff games than SC. Oh, and West Brook won a 5A State Title in its FIRST year of existence. Who's the fool now? -
When was the last time Highland Park won a football state title? That didtrict is loaded! Lamarque played for a 4A state title two years ago. Have you been to Lamarque? Coldspring ain't Beverly Hills!
-
On another note I saw today that an Old Dominion program that started in 2009 was playing in the FCS playoffs for the second year in a row and were going FBS next year as an Independent.

ONE win! Heck even Barbers Hill has one playoff victory.
