Three teams you don't wanna see in the playoffs...
badndn replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Any team can beat any team on any given day/night. Football playoffs are scary at all levels. One bad game and you're done.
And one good game against a better team and you done! Brenham and Manvel. Two BIG teams up front that will give us he!!. Not sure about Lamarque without Wright. Angleton looks to be tuff at 10-0 with wins against Terry and Dayton, but they give up a lot of points (score alot too, with lots of weapons). Terry beat Lamarque in week 0 and there only loss was one point barn burner to Angleton. -
If Ozen Makes Play-Offs?
AMn its been 6 yrs.. I remember when Ozen 1st started they were in every season.. I really believe i they can get in things will start turning around real fast BMT I.S.D is like a mini ncaa the jr. kids pick which schools they wanna play for by who makes it to the BOWL GAMES in this case play-offs
Ozens decline did coincide with two things...WB's rise and the move into 20-4A. -
Jones is good, but he ran wild against us and we beat em 35-7 because we were able to contain Green. In the two games Green was out they averaged 7.5 points. With him at QB they are over 20 PPG. Maybe he is not District MVP. He is without a doubt the most important player for his teams success. If Green is not MVP then Bertrand will get it. Usually goes to an offensive player with the top stats on one of the top teams. Chase will have over 900 yards in district and 16 to 20 district TDs after Friday Night. Thats around 15 to 16 points and 130 yards a game. The Vidor offense will hurt Quirantes chances. He is essentially a RB in that offense. His stats are good and would be right up there with Jones and Bertrand as far as RBs if he was a feature back, but its not the case due to the Slot T scheme.

Livingston District Alignment???????????
The range is way larger in 5A. Memorial has 2100 or so kids, Katy and some of the Dallas schools are pushing 4000!
Actually Katy may be the smallest school in the Katy ISD at 2700. For some reason people think Katy is one of those MEGA schools, when it is not. North Shore was over 4000 last allignment. Point taken though. Large differences from bottom to top in 5A. -

So explain to me again why 20 4A has to have 8 teams? There are 7 team districts all over this state. With the Houston schools going 3A you could see North Forest and/or CE King moving over into the Houston districts. This would open up 19 4A to have 7 or 8 teams with Livingston. 4 non district games is not a problem.
Unless a miracle happens there won't be a NF next year.
If this is true and they still put Livingston in our district, we will all know that the UIL is nuts! -

Much better watching a team play interior defense. Not a lot of easy buckets for SGU last night. On the offensive side, we gotta shoot better, but I am sure with time that will come. -
If I had to guess what the coaches will pick. MVP - Green - Ozen Offensive MVP - Bertrand - PNG (16 District TDs) Defensive MVP - Carr - Nederland (best player on best defense) Coach - Neuman - Nederland QB - Miller - PNG RB - Jones - Ozen RB - Benjamin - Ned FB - Clark - Vid WR - Nelson - PNG WR - Michaels - Ozen WR - Shaw - Ned TE - Hanks - PNG OL? Nicotre - PNG and I would guess a couple from Vid, Liv and Ned.

Quirante Vidor
Didn't impress me Friday night. They actually moved the ball better when they switched QBs. Before you Vidor folks start flippin' out, I'm not saying he is not a good player. Just saying take him off that team and Vidor is still pretty good. Green gets my vote. As Green goes so goes Ozen.
Your right. He did have a not so good game against yall. But isn't every player allowed to have a bad game? I mean passing wise your QB and receivers were held to 99 yards when yall were averaging almost 200 passing a game. And We held your offense to 282 yards when yall were averaging 395 yards a game but that doesn't mean your offense is loosing it. IMO Montana is the MVP because of what he has been doing this entire season. Playing both sides of the ball. In the top three tacklers in the Vidor defense and until this week was leading the rushing yards and passing yards in the Vidor offense. And all this while playing Middle Linebacker. Oh and might I add that this is his first year to ever play QB or offense for that matter.
Maybe, but I still say Green is more improtant to his teams success.
They were not good last year in district, why in the world did some folks think they were going to be better this time around. It wil take the coaching staff more time to get everyone on the same page.
Gotta agree with you on this one. They had the best QB/WR combo they have had in years and still couldn't make the playoffs last year. What then would make anyone think that after losing those two they would be better?
Most of yall gotta remember. Jeff Mathews took a team that was 2-8 last year and basically with the same players except for a few lineman made them a 7-2 team this year. That takes skill right there.
If you have the same players, you should win. He took a bunch of returners and they finished either tied for second or in fourth place. Gotta say Neuman on this one. Nederland has a boat load of Sophomores and they should go through undefeated. Thought Neuman should have had it last season, but they gave it to Crouch at LCM, who didn't even make it to the Playoffs! I will agree that Mathews would be my second choice. -
I'll go out on a limb and say....Purple and White team with a W!!!

Has anyone else heard this?
I heard it was a 3 for 1 deal, not an even 2-2 split.
Thats fine. Wouldn't expect it any other way.

Correct and if PNG loses and Vidor loses and Ozen wins it creates a three way with PNG, Vidor and Ozen in which PNG and Vidor go due to the fact that they both beat Ozen. Ozen losses out in any three way involving PNG. They only get in with a PNG Win and a Vidor win.
-
NO!!!! You don't have to play them the whole game (and you won't need to against LCM), but get them some reps and a healthy lead for the sake of finishing what you started strong.
-
If Vidor tanks the game and looses a second game in a row, then Matthews has lost it. You can not go into the playoffs on a two game skid! It will resonate into the first round... Bringing JV players up is normal just before playoffs. However I can see how this would be big news to someone from Vidor! ;D Allright, Allright I couldn't resist. It is good practice. One reason why alot of top teams remain top teams in the state is because they get the next class extra reps for 3 to 6 weeks each year. It makes a big difference in sustaining a good program.
i agree with most of the posters on here the coldsprings coach barbe is is a very very good coach and i do understand where you all are comming from and i do belive thay have not lost a game and are in the top 10 teams in the state but on the other hand you might take a look at coach thompson at wo-s he took over the this program from coach hooks and put in a new type (O) with a almost a complet new coaching staff and with kids getting hurt all season he keep them togather somehow.his mustangs played some of the best teams around friendswood who was rated in the state at that time oh i should have put nederland in first dis champs in 4A and then came giddings who are still rated in the top 10 in class 4A so being a mustang fan i will cast my vote for coach thompson IMO PS SORRY FOR THE SPELLING
I think it may be more remarkable in that District that Price has gotten HF to be competitive again! -
I was watching the game on TV and happened to hear that Sam Houston didn't have any recruits that came from the local clubs while Lamar was continously calling players name from Lumberton,Kelly, WB etc. This is not a knock on local clubs but it is impossible to build a successful college program when you recruit that heavily locally.
Mcneese and SFA have been winning with SETX talent for years! SHSU has 32 players from the Greater houston area. I'd say that's pretty freakin local to them. They have 5 players from Huntsville or surrounding towns. Considering the size of Huntsville, that's quite a few. SHSU may not have any current players from the GT, but the best team they had outside of this season in the past 20 years was led by a GT QB and had several other GT players on it. Besides it's year #2! What did you really expect? The fact that they are even competitive against the bottom of the conference is remarkable. Do you really expect Lamar to outrecruit the second and third tier schools for top Texas prospects in year two??? Get real.

No one said anything about poster boy scholl of Texas. Actually currently Euless Trinity, Katy and SLC are the poster boys. Just stated facts that people do recognize PNG as a brand. That makes us proud. We feel like we must be doing something right. Vidor Pirate fans should be very happy about the direction of their Athletic programs. Great strides have been made the past five years in most sports. When your athletic programs are good, your student base takes more pride in all things scholastic, which is a great thing to be a part of.
