1.
I think Matt Cross is worth looking at. He has done well at P.A.
He did well at Talladega College and Texas College before LSC-PA. Read below from LSCPA Bio: "Cross moved to Texas College in Tyler as an assistant coach in 2006. Six months into the job, the head coach resigned and Cross was asked to take the job on an interim basis. Starting with a 1-11 record and a depleted roster, Cross was able to lead the Steers into the Red River Athletic Conference postseason tournament, highlighted by an upset win over the regular season conference champion, Houston Baptist University. After the season the college took the “interim” tag off Cross’ title. The following year, Texas College compiled a 21-13 overall record and won the co-championship of the Red River Conference, the first-ever conference title for the school. It also was the Steers’ first winning season in three years and a NAIA Division I-best 15-game improvement from the previous year. In 2008, Cross moved to Talladega College, where former Texas College president Billy Hawkins wanted to resurrect the school’s sports programs that had been inactive for more than a decade. During the 2008-09 season, the first-year Tornadoes went 25-7 overall and won the national championship of the Division-I US Collegiate Athletic Association. Along the way, Talladega also made college basketball history by defeating five NCAA Division I teams."

How is it brutal to expect to be at the very least one of the top 8 teams in quite possibly the worst DI basketball conference in America year in and year out?
Just so you know, it's teams like Lamar (this year) that helped make the conference one of the worst. UTA - 269 TAMU-CC  - 280 Lamar - 294 UCA - 340 You can't get rid of the bad teams, and moving to the WAC won't make your RPI any higher. Take out Utah State, and every team is about 115, even when you add in TSU-SM and UTSA. The conference will only get better when teams stop scheduling the worst teams in the country.
So what's your point? It's not like SHSU is burning it up at 179! Who said anything about the WAC? We are talking strictly SLC here. How do you think the SHSU fans would reacto to not making the SLC tourney 3 years in a row? Especially this season when the top team in the conference is 163 and only two in the top 200! Last year 5 teams top 200 and one top 100. Year before that 6 teams top 200 one top 100. The SLC Champs this year would have been 5th two seasons ago. The conference sucked this year and LU could not make the top 8. 29th ranked conference. 4.
Lamar fans are brutal.  I'm a Lamar grad and have been a long time Lamar season ticket holder who would love to see them winning and competing again.  I can see both sides of this, but knowing Roc is a local son and his experience under Tubbs, I would give him another year.
Your in the minority big time here! How is it brutal to expect to be at the very least one of the top 8 teams in quite possibly the worst DI basketball conference in America year in and year out? For some perspective on the situation. Rocs winning percentage at Lamar is 49.4% (48.8% in SLC). This places him 5th out of the 8 coaches since the Tubbs (including Tubbs). Take away the one good year when Skelton was doing the coaching and he its 46% (40.6% in SLC) which means only Mike Deane and Branchhad worse records and Deane had a 46% winning percentage in SLC. Take away the 4 BS wins against sub DI teams for those 4 years and Roc's winning percentage is a wopping 38%. Now tell me again why we should give this guy a 6th season when we didn't for any of the other guys that put up better numbers than him? ???
 5.
But they actually interviewed Floyd.
Yeah imagine that...They didn't even so much as send a letter of interest to the other guys when they were available. ::) Point is every program passes on someone that makes it big at some point. Even the big dogs get it wrong sometimes!
 6.

Tim Floyd?????
Don't put any stock in that Sleepy.  UNLV's only trying to dredge up an old argument about how LU passed on a coach who went on to later have success
LU passed up on Coach K, Roy Williams and Tom Izzo also at some point!!!  ;D
 7.
KEEP ROC I would like to see some adjustments, but I think Coach Roc should stay.  He does need help with the x's and o's so add a good offensive coordinator.  He's doing good with the recruiting and he learned a lot under Tubbs and Calipari.  Another coaching change will keep this program in constant dissaray.  Lamar ain't no Kentucky, Duke or UNC.  The program needs some stability.  A big name coach will not stay in Beaumont or at Lamar very long.  Look no further than Tidwell, he's a keeper too.
Is Roc's son named Ryan? Either that or this guy is a McNeese Alumn. What you fail to realize is that Roc's problem is his EGO! He won't let someone else take charge and his players don't believe in him for obvious reasons.  He needs to go back to doing what he does best and Recruit for one of the big time programs. He could probably make as much if not more money as a top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Kentucky or one of the other bigs. 5 years is more than enough time in the SLC!!!
 8. I second Skelton!!! The guy is a winner wherever he goes and some of the best players, hustlers on the court and fan favorites we have had at LU over the past 5 years were guys that Skelton recruited at NWMiss, which tells me he recognizes talent and hard workers.
 9.
Proven Head Coach:  I say go after Bubba Skelton, won at Miss Juco, baby sat Roc to win SLC East and winning again at 2nd Mississippi JUCO
Thats my guy. Prooven as a recruiter and X's and O's coach. He went back to Miss to be closer to home, but Money talks!!! The guy "Just Wins Baby!" He is one of those mine and his'in coaches. He'll when with mine and he'll win with his'in.  ;D And his players seem to really respond and believe in him which is 99% of the battle.

Someone mentioned Forney containing Balls bigs!!! ::) He will be in foul trouble early.
You don't have a clue about what you are talking about! Forney has not fouled out of a game ALL season, and Kelvin Smith has only fouled out once (against Huntsville). Even if ONE of them does foul out, you forgot about our Freshman, Weisbrod, who can fill in for either one of them!!!
First off I never said anything about fouling out! What I said was foul trouble early which is worse than fouling out late!!! Point being that Forney would have trouble with the speed of Balls bigs. Turns out I was correct...Sort Of. Forney was injured and I was not aware of this when I posted that. Ended up that Smith got into foul trouble early and Ball went off in the second half. Coincedence? I think not. Great run Dogs.

No clear cut #1 in 20 4A. Livingston will be stout, but that offense will struggle deeper in the playoffs. Central might be a year away from another run to regionals. PNG returns alot, but Doty & Schexneider will be hard to replace. Nederland was young this year, very young and will probably be a year away from big things. Thats my playoff group, but no particular order. Ozen returns the best player, but they have no line and LCM looses Misters everything, Gonzo and Sonnier.
Ozen returns 3 on the line so what r u talking about ?
I will repeat Ozen returns the best player, but they have no line.  Returning a bad OLine is not necessarily a good thing! ;) That's what I have been trying to impress upon us PNG fans that keep pointing out that we return several DB's. May not be a good thing!
i will say ozen still needs work but to say they have a bad o line after they put 42pts on yall's defensive is a wow statement,  and yes green is a great player but no one does it by their self.
Putting up 42 on PNG's defense this past year was nothing to write home about!!! And I was there, Green spent all night on the run, making plays outside of the pocket because that Line was B A D bad. Spin it any way you want to, I think you will find that the rest of 20-4A will agree with me.

He just don't have the X and O skills. However what if ROC win out, then win the SLC tourney, then win a game in the NCAA.
They would let him keep his job for another year.....BUT, we would be a 16 seed and get someone like Duke, or Ohio State....BYU or Kansas...Do you really think we can't beat one of them?
HEck yes we can beat them................ ::) ::) ::) :D :D :D
That would be the only way LU could win over any of them...BEAT Them with something!!! ;D
 17.
Not so much as a qb but as an overall football prospect, I could def. see Merka in the top 5. He'll have a good college career IMO.
I can agree with that. His size speed combo should afford him a chance to play somewhere on the field. As I have said before he could be like the Phillips kid from Waller several years back that played QB in HS, but switched to LB at TCU and had a very good career.
 18. Similar issues with SFA, but the home crowd may be enough to get them by. I say LU in a squeeker and it all depends on who is going to the line late in the game!!!
Says in the story that the Dad was none existent.
 20. Anyone who thinks that JJ transfered because he was "above the program" is mistaken. The kid got homesick. It happens. He was just lucky enough to be able to come home and get a shot and it appears that he is trying to proove himself by example.

 24. I predict a route by SFA. SFA allways plays the best defense in the conference. They will shut us down and we will struggle with their bigs Scott and Glenn. We have gotten much better at defending the three especially with Minor getting alot of PT. Problem is SFA shoots the least amount of threes in the conference by far. They score inside and do it well which has been a problem for us in the past. Could be the same problem we have when we face SHSU also with Clavelle. However I can see us defeating TS due to our improved perimiter defense, which could make for a do or die re-match with MSU in LC!
 25. I thought BH was better this year than last and they return a good squad. They will be tough, but it really is all about matchups.
