Plant wont be their for long, Also IMO the people who pick some of these rankings are only picking some of the teams so some States wont be left out,,Not bashing the other states , but Most Nation Wide polls should consist mainly of TX,FL,CAL, and Ohio..Witha few outsiders..theirs no way A state like, Utah or Navada can beat Tex,Fl and maybe Calis top 10 teams..
I bet Skyline (washington) can hang with anyone in Texas. I've seen them play numerous times and everytime it turned into a blowout.
My niece went to Skyline HS in Washington. She said they were good, but not like in Texas! Again the Private schools that recruit heavy and get to play for the main title in their state versus the public schools that are bound by their district lines (Texas).
 2.
Basically all but three pitches. There were 10 girls that made the trip to Lufkin, but the other two pitch as well.
Herein lies the problem...Only one ball! Very difficult to get pitching time for 7 girls in one tournament!
 3. There is enough talent in this area to field two very good competitive teams at each level. I know this because it has been proven recently. Last year (2010): 12U Crush 97 and Thunder 97 both competed in Houston regularly against some of the best in the nation and beat them. 14U Crush Collins and Young Guns did the same as above. If you go to Houston and ask the older groups about these four teams you wont get any  ::)! One question I have about this team that went to Lufkin...How many pitchers were on that team?
 4. Never any love for Central??? To have Nederland over Central to start the season is very suspect. Also they have no mention of Humble, who is dropping from 5A, in region 3. I gotta believe they will be a player before Galveston Ball!
 5. My big question is why the Astors have said that Brett Myers is "untouchable". Why would you not trade the guy if the right prospects were available? He has been great this year and could help to replenish the farm. Teams would be more willing to make a good deal for a guy like Myers who is not hampered with a large over-extended contract! Also anyone else notice that Ed Wade has only had success in making deals involving his old club in Philly? ? ?
 6.
This has been a good thread to read but am I correct in saying we are talking about "Southern Nationals",  "Southern Nationals"  come on  "Southern Nationals". Is this not the tournament for all the teams that did not qualify for the REAL Nationals. Anyone who plays ASA can attend this one. Will not be any coaches watching this one. May be time to start Volleyball practice.
Not the point. AD didn't say "those attending Southern Nationals and missing practice can't play". What he said affects a whole host of kids that could be playing in a National event. Again I ask if the OF kids from the BC LL had played in the LL WS and missed a few Football Practices would they be kicked off of the team? or even expelled from school for missing a few days?
 7.
Your team traveled here from California to play in the IFA Nationals. During the rain delay, you've already hit the highlights by visiting the Babe Didrikson Zaharias Memorial and Gladys City; Any other suggestions on what else to do until the fields are playable?
Sports Center is on at 6!
 8.
ok so this AD is willing to banish these girls from an entire season of VB over a few practices. sounds like he is the one taking the mile with his inch of authority. its not like these kids are calling in sick because they don't want to practice, which would not carry the same penalty, they are playing in a national tournament that is the culmination of an entire year of hard work. you cannot govern every scenario in life with rules, at some point common sense has to be factored into the situation. I'll bet if one of these kids would happen to be a football player that could run like the wind and could be a game changer, the rule would be amended.  JMO
Very good point. I got it...Any OF kid that will be missing the first two Volleyball PRACTICES this season for Nationals, just call in sick! ;D
 9. I think it has been proven at the smaller classifications that it can be very successful because it tends to wear down a defense that has a lot of two way players, which is the case in most sub 4A schools. It is an equalizer against a faster team because of all the misdirection it creates a lot of overpursuit. That being said, not very popular at the higher classifications. A disciplined defense that has depth will eat it alive (don't even have to be extremely athletic, just disiplined and have enough players to rotate in and out to keep fresh).
 10.
Any smart HS coach understands that atheletes that participate in summer sports has tremendous benefits for his HS program.  I often see HS coaches at the area tournaments and they support their players in addition to gaining an abundance of information just by observing.   What you dont see very often is HS coaches coaching from the stands and getting involved directly with the players which while being a common courtesy, it also is frowned upon by UIL.  On the other hand, it should also be the same common courtesy for Select coaches to refrain from coaching outside the dug out at a HS game.   Also, the same should apply in situations when it is not the same sport.  As long as atheletes are staying in shape, multi seasons and or multi sports should be acceptable.
Great Post As I stated before it was deleted, any educator (Coach) that would force a kid to choose between a couple of pre-season practices and going to an event that could enable him or her to showcase their talents in front of a large number of college recruiters with the possibility to earn a college scholarship, should be questioned. The goal for educators is to help get the students to the next level, whatever that level may be. It's not like the kids are missing practice for a trip to Smith Lake! If the BC LL team had made it to the LL WS last year and missed a few days of school, would the OF kids on that team have been kicked off of the Middle School Football team? Hell no! They would have had a parade for them (and rightfully so).
 11.
As soon as PNG get their full recruitment list completed I will post it. They are waiting for 2 hold outs from PA Memorial and they are walking them through the facilities today .
?? Wrong. Go back and look again...PNG hasn't had a transfer in ages. Now Nederland has had a few kids come over from PA the last few years (Grogan & Roy), but they have this whole Stonegate area thing going on where you can go to PA or Nederland. Not sure how that works?
 12. If I were an unbiased fan (had no affiliation) these are the local games I would have as must sees:                   1st                      2nd Week 0: WOS @ Ned                Central @ PAM Week 1: Newton @ KVille          Crosby @ PNG Week 2: Angleton @ Dayton      Dawson @ Crosby Week 3: Katy @ WB (9/18)        Jasper @ WOS (9/17)            Eisenhower @ Dayton not far behind Week 4: Giddings/WOS (Conroe) Tyler Lee @ WB Week 5: PNG @ Ned (10/1)        WOS @ KVille (10/2) Week 6: NS @ PAM                  Central @ LCM Week 7: WB @ NS                    Ned @ Central Week 8: LCM @ PNG                Jasper @ KVille Week 9: Crosby @ Dayton        Newton @ Anahuac Week 10: Central @ PNG          LCM @ Ned
 13.
Right now, I say the Katy vs. West Brook game is the best. But as the season progresses, things could change. ;)
I'd have to agree on this one right now.
 14.
Port Neches Groves should win they play against that style of offense 2 times a year.
If they run one of the variations of the Tee, then our coaches showed a pretty stout defense last year to slow those offenses down. Livingston 39 rushes 85 yards 2.2 ypc (93 total yards) 7 pts Vidor 37 rushes 182 yards 4.9 ypc (250 total yards) 13 pts - that was against the very good three headed monster they had last year.
 15.
Unfortunately I heard the GT Shockers dropped there first bracket game 6-1 to a team that should be competing in the "A" division.
Shouldn't all second year 10U's be competing in the "A" division? How is PCB? Is it crowded? Hoping it will be pretty quiet next week when we get there with all of the non-softballers staying away due to the media beach scare! ;D We will be there Saturday. If we get there early enough we will come out and support you gals.
 16.
Yes, we can agree on that. but that wasnt the point you were making.......it would have been better said, no team from the GT is going to ASA Nationals. Thats why Houston tourn, ASA qualifiers, and OK, and CO tournaments are the best place to play in our region.........not Bmt and West Lake.......but that is a whole DIFFERENT subject.
Now this we can agree upon 100%!

So it's a dead issue. I agree it is splitting hairs, but in the softball world PCB is not considered Nationals. Until you play against the California teams you haven't played in a National Championship. USFA is more of a Southeastern thing.
It could actually be THE issue. What if some of them would like to? "In softball world" Not sure what that means I guess. There are players in this area that would probably disagree being you just took a "National Championship" away from them. We played and beat California teams in the Colorado Fireworks 2 years in a row, in fact, we have never lost to a California team.......what does that mean? NOTHING except we played in a tournament in CO and won some games. BUT it wasnt a National Tournament...........
Would you agree that to be the best you should have to beat the best?

 20.
There will be at least two teams in Panama City Beach playing in the USFA World Series that are mostly 99 birthdays at that time.
1st...Panama City is not Nationals...Anyone can play in that tournament. All you have to do is pay and play in a state tournament.  Nationals is ASA or IFA, where you have to qualify by placing in state or regional tournaments (we are going to PCB this year). And yes I was well aware that OOC and GT Shockers are going to PCB next week. Hope they have a great time. Should be fun. We can't wait for the week after when we will be there. 2nd...The 10U World Series is next week.
 21. PNG 2010 OLine LT - 6'2" 250 - K. Nicotre (Jr. Returning Starter) LG - 6'3" 310 - G. Langlois (Sr. Returning Starter) C  - 6'2" 250 - B. Parks (Sr. Played some last year) RG - 6'2" 265 - P. Braud (Sr. Played some last year) RT - 6'3" 270 - G. Lunceford (Sr. Returning Starter) The lines on both sides of the ball are your foundation. And PNG will be stout on both sides of the ball in the trenches, with loads of returning impact players.

 23.

2009 PN-G vs. Central (25-22 PN-G, 2 OT) 2009 PN-G vs. Texas City (22-16 PN-G, OT) 2009 PN-G vs. Barbers Hill I (21-20 PN-G) 2008 PN-G vs. Crosby (28-27 PN-G)
The Central game is the only one in which PNG was down inside a minute and came back to win. The others were the opposite. PNG was up and held on to win. Crosby was a second half push to take the lead, but not a score within a minute. The one that stands out the most outside of the Central game is that 1999 victory over Schertz Clemens at Kyle Field. RC Slocum said that series made him a D. Long believer and he offered shortly after.
I seem to remember our last touchdown at the Crosby game coming at the very last second. As for Texas City, we may not have been behind in the last minute of the game, but we weren't ahead, either, and I believe that Barbers Hill was ahead until we made the final touchdown of the game and scored with the PAT, although that may not have been in the last minute of the game. Then again, I could be wrong. That was a while back and I tend to catch the last few minutes of each game intermittently due to certain responsibilities I have to the band.
Barbers Hill tied the game at 14 in the 3rd Q and PNG scored early in the 4th to take a 21-14 lead. BH scored about halfway through the 4th Q, but missed the XP. Our boys held on late on defense to get the W. TC actually scored with about 30 seconds left, then converted the 2 pts to tie that game. We won it in OT. Against Crosby two years ago PNG scored 21 pts in a 3 minute span at the begining of the 4th to take the lead 28-21. Actually Crosby scored inside of a minute, but missed the XP to tie it. All exciting games and PNG wins, but none were actual come from behind victories for PNG in the last minute. WOW...We have had some real heart thumpers the past two years. Include the Central and Brehnam games as well as the LCM game and the allways exciting Nederland game and it has been a crazy time!
 24. Yea, I don't think the Little League folks are out to punish a kid from All-Stars because he got hurt! That would be insane. ::)
