The Doc is saying Brock will be out 4 - 5 wks. He sustained a Pronator muscle tear in his lft forearm. Apparently, this is a very rare muscle to tear. They are thinking he will be ready by district. Big loss off the line. The Dogs will have to respond and step up their game to fill the void.

Dayton / Ned scrimmage ~ conflicting dates ?
cooligan replied to jayhawk's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Biggest Blow for the Dogs tonight. Pryor will be out. Apparently, he injured a bicep on the last play Tuesday. They think it is just bruised or strained. An MRI is scheduled for today to make sure. All prayers appreciated. This young man has worked very hard to get to where he is today. Good luck to the Pryor family. Not sure about any other Dogs. Washington did miss practice yesterday so he is perhaps questionable. -
Thoughts anyone? I can't wait to see how Ned matches up with a very good Dayton team. I say-- LET'S GET IT ON! :o

Interesting program. Just for fun I looked up Nederland(my home team) It had us going 0 - 10 this year. Now I know that can't be right. I say we will win at least 1 or 2 games. ;) :D

X did not play. He is supposed to be back practicing Monday. The Dayton scrim shows it is set for 6:00 on the 18th. I hope it changes to 7:00.

The young man comes to Nederland by way of Las Vegas. His father graduated from Ned in 1974. Dad is retiring and was ready to leave Vegas. I expect the young man to be a starter and play along side Weisbrod as a shooting forward. He is 6'5" and about 185. Good ball handling skills and a good outside shooter. I have only seen him play 2 games. Lucky catch for English. Of Course, a good program will attract good players, when they are considering a move to mid county. Roll on Ned. ;)

Question about Mid County Madness
cooligan replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The PNG - Nederland game last year had 12k in attendance. No doubt the playoff game would explode to 20k - 30K. I believe Lamar holds around 14K -
If there is any quality we admire about Vidor football, and all sports in general, it is their heart, fight and determination. No doubt the team displays those qualities every year and it is thus that keeps them competitive and in the game. However, without the size, there is only so much pounding one can take before the body wears down.

Anyone getting new uniforms this year?
cooligan replied to BMTSoulja1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The Hill needs to wise up and take that piano off their back. Once they do they might be able to score on Dayton. Who designed those ugly things anyway Elton John? :D -
MVP went to a player on the West Brazos team. I believe his last name was Romero. He pitched 8 innings went 1 - 0 and batted over 500. I thought they said .554. MVP could have easily went to Preston White. He also pitched 8 inn went 1 - 0 and was very impressive at Short. He also hit the ball well, but I feel certain he didn't bat over 500.

I try not to pay any attention to Dove and his Nederland comments. He is still upset that HF's best freshman, from last yr, transferred to a real BB program. He just needs to wise up and move the Little Doves. That move would get his 2 further in the playoffs than any HF team will go. :D

Last year PNG had a very good OL. No doubt they were the best in district and probably the best in SE TX. If I'm not mistaken they had played together 2 yrs. Next yrs group may be adequate, but they won't match up with last years. Unfortunately, that equates to not as good of a year for Bertrand. Chase is a good strong runner, but he won't see the massive holes created like last years group did. Bertrand will still get his 1000 yds. I can see somewhere between 1200 - 1400 for the year. Miller appears to be a good runner and his talent will compensate for any inadequacy on the OL. He will move in the pocket well and throw on the run. Keep in mind he will be throwing to Nelson and a newcomer by the name of Chipman. I was most impressed by Chipman in the spring game. I still think PNG has a long way to go on D. They seemed smaller up front and coverage was questionable in the spring game. Faircloth and company will have them prepared for next year, but I only see them grabbing the 3rd or 4th spot in the district. Unfortunately, after the up coming year, it will be all up hill for years to come. Good luck to the NDNS

You are correct Dogs 1218. I should have clarified last yrs team will be the best English will ever coach in Nederland. After coach's 8th grader graduates he will be looking for something much bigger than Nederland and a district champion. Keeping it real, I just don't see a state appearance in the next 5 yrs for Ned. Unless we draw some fabulous transfers to go with the group we already have.
-
Jags I agree with you on many points. First off, I believe Neds 2010 - 2011 team will be the best team English will ever coach, barring some unknown fabulous transfers in the future. You just can't replace Kelvin Smith every year. Not to mention the power game of Forney and the athleticism of Cunningham. For those who are coming on here and projecting a state appearence, I say it is nice to dream, but you are delusional. Clearly, you have not seen the top teams in 4a play. Need I remind you of Ball's domination last year against the best team Ned has ever put on the floor. Now, with that being said, Neds next year team will be a good competitive, young team, who I see ending up no worse then 3rd in district and who will have a chance at the title if the youngsters mature quickly. Make no mistake, they have the talent to be in every game and there will be some battles with Ozen and Central. Although the new dogs won't have the speed of Cunn, the power of Forney or the pure greatness of Smith, they will offer much better team ball movement and much better outside shooting. After all, the core of this group has been playing ball together for the last 9 -10 yrs. They do know how each other plays and work well together. Next yrs 3 Bigs will range from 6'4" to 6'6". The tallest being the Vegas transfer. Vegas, as I call him, will be a good addition to the team. He is more of a shooting forward with a nice outside shot and good ball handling skills. I have only seen him play 2 pu games, but he never drove the lane for a shot nor did he work for a rebound so I am unclear as to what he will bring inside. Weisbrod will be the best down low scoring threat. He is just hard to stop when he wants to go to the bucket. The 3rd Big is a 230lb hard pounding football player who loves when it gets rough inside. I, like you Jags, see the size, but these three play a different game than Forney and Smith. By far the biggest obstacle, for this team, and there own worst enemy, will be their maturity. They will have to stay composed to get the job done and win district next year. The last time they played Central, in summer league, they had 4 T's called against them and just had a major meltdown. It will be an interesting year to say the least.
-
Why wouldn't Central shake hands you ask? I call it poor sportsmanship on the part of a coach who didn't allow it. By the way, I did say, perhaps one of many reasons and that is not the same as saying the only reason the coach was removed. Actions can and do speak louder than words. I do find it ironic that a guy who has been to every district game in the last 10 years does not remember the first time in history Central came up short to Nederland. Is it possible you missed this one?
-
3 yrs ago Ned beat Central at home. It was a big win for the Dogs and perhaps the turning point of the program. I also remember Central's coach refusing to allow his players to shake hands, after the game, and they all abruptly left the court. Class act. Not a good lesson for young men to endure. Perhaps, this is one of the many reasons the coach was kicked to the curb shortly thereafter. :o

Now it all makes since why Phil Jackson is steeping down. :D :D

Last game of the year for many. Good luck boy's
