Whoa. Sorry. I just had to pick myself up off of the floor because I was in such shock that the big decision hadn't been made yet. WOW!

District to charge fee to athletes
stang4life replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Ignorance...every where I tell you. Some of these posts are so...don't even have a word for it. Trust me when I tell you that there are quite a few kids who DON'T have cell phones and who COULDN'T afford to pay a fee. Heck, if they could, they'd probably be in some batting class or pitching lesson somewhere. The comment about the costs of various programs such as free/reduced lunches, busing, etc....love the subtlety. There are as many kids who benefit from these programs who contribute as much as the kid in the next district with a cell phone in elementary, wearing Abercrombie, and receiving brand new cars on their 16th birthdays. Sure you have some who don't necessarily want to be in school because unfortunately they may not have that stable household who emphasizes the importance of an education, but blame can be placed on more than just that kid. In the wise words of Gandhi...if you are not a part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem. Step outside of Lilly-white and maybe attempt to make the world a better place. -
Great athletic talent is enhanced by coaches who can coach that type of talent, just like great coaches usually have great talent to work with. I don't have to KNOW Bryant, but how ungrateful and blinded to just think that he had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with how BC's baseball program has performed in the last however many years. You know, it's Wednesday and I was under the impression that an announcement naming the new coach should have already happened, right? Is your name in the hat? If not, perhaps you should call the school board and tell them that you are interested because you will bring something that the program has lacked (whatever you believe that to be). Oops, I apologize...are you on the school board...

Let me know when you can find those kind of deals on batting practice and pitching practice. -
VIDEO....BC Still Looking For New Head Coach!!!!!!
stang4life replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Honestly, if you look at the big picture, he may be better off staying in Vidor. I don't really know much about that situation, but if he can actually COACH without all the drama and not have the interference from outside forces (and we all know that it's not just the "fans" involved), I think he should pray about it and make the decision that's best for him. Looking at the big picture, it might be better for him to stay where he's at...I dunno. I'm sure that there are quite a few coaches that would love to take over the baseball program at BC because of it's history alone (which was enhanced with a pretty decent coach from what I can see), but when you have to take all the baggage that comes with it...the decision is not as easy. I definitely have to agree that cost is probably the biggest obstacle. -
It would seem that Ex-Coach Bryant might get a little credit with getting his players scholarships, but like his coaching, I'm sure that he had absolutely nothing to do with the process, right? 8)

VIDEO....BC Still Looking For New Head Coach!!!!!!

Perhaps, this and any other coaches pondering whether to take the BC job are coming to understand that BC had a pretty decent coach who took their baseball program to the playoffs and still it wasn't good enough. Doggone...my bad...I forgot that he didn't play a part in the that whole playoff thing for the past several years because these kids didn't need him. -
Unfortunately, both years...they fell short. I don't think that his coaching career should be judged on those two losses. Sometimes, things just happen. I would hope that the players would not be judged on not winning those two games. ???

Great post. Perhaps the school board could comprise a list of possibilities from the little league coaches who are responsible for these kids' greatness and then vote on it. Hey, there's not yet a reality TV show on "HIGH SCHOOL COACH SELECTION"...now, that's an idea!!!

Wow...ignorant runs rampant. Whoa, nelly! I agree with several posts on here and the others...well, I'll just tell ya...I wasn't shocked by your responses. You know, I have taught my children growing up, you may not like this person or that person, but you should respect them. To every coach who sacrifices what they do to coach, many owe you so much, including myself. Not just at the school level, but at every level. Unfortunately, I was a single parent and these coaches stepped up and taught my children something about baseball, but more importantly...about LIFE. The Mustang coaches have been my boys' other parent and I owe them eternally for that. In no way was I trying to down what little league dads and others do for their kids nor did I ever say that any ONE person was responsible. I'm not a fool, but are you because you think that most coaches have the difficult task of molding and harnessing these athletes? Sure, parents are to be credited, but I just happen to firmly believe in the saying: it takes a village to raise a child. My whole point to the initial post was this: I am so tired of hearing people down these coaches. They are but human and I am sure that most will tell you that they are fallible. For all who believe that they can do a better job coaching...GO TO COLLEGE, GET A DEGREE, TAKE A PAY CUT, AND GIVE WHAT THESE OTHER COACHES GIVE TO THESE KIDS. If anyone still isn't comprehending the post, I'll try to break it down some more (if that's possible!) -

I don't know whether "it" is locked, but I do know that the particular thread that I was reading (Mark Dunn's article...) was locked when I was reading it. -
Perhaps Coach Bryant has a little more class, couth, and suave' than some of his critics on this board. We all know that politics CAN play a part in high school sports and that unfortunately it does. I agree with the poster who said that parents coaching these kids growing up and making it this far and that far in whatever sport is totally different than school ball. And to all of these great-parental coaches who complain about their kids not getting to be a starter or playing time, get your teaching certificate and give up your plant job and GO COACH! Sure, all parents want their kids to do well in whatever endeavor they attempt, but truth is...many try to live their lives through their children. That's what's so sad.

Here I sit reading the boards and I go to put my two cents in and the doggone thread gets locked. Just wanted to know if there will be ANY threads allowed on this FORUM discussing COACH BRYANT, BASEBALL, and POSTERS' OPINIONS about what went on in BC? If it gets locked, then I guess I know the answer to two questions...NO DISCUSSIONS regarding COACH BRYANT and why I HAVE BEEN GONE SOOO LONG!!!

Nice showing Mustangs!! -
Not soon enough. As far as forcing anyone to partake in the testing...the player has a choice whether to test or not test. I know that there will be those parents who advocate for their children's rights, but this parent says test my children when you want, as much as you want because they should have nothing to hide. That's part of what's wrong with our kids today is that there parents try to be friends vs. parents and trying to give them rights that they shouldn't have just yet. If testing saves ONE life...it is worth every penny spent because if we keep going...that's exactly what is going to happen and we'll be reading it on here, in the newspaper, or seeing it on T.V. My opinion is: if you aren't doing anything wrong, then you shouldn't have an issue with testing. As a parent, I would definitely approve of the testing because if my child is engaging in these activities, I want to know (of course, if parents are informed and active in their kids' lives, then they should suspect something's not right). Also, it gives the kid an unfair advantage compared to the kid that busts their butt in the weight room everyday and WORKING for it. It's unfair to the team, individual, etc. when a kid is juicing up and that particular team, individual, etc. is beaten and unable to advance in the given competition.

Well then, maybe I should correct the statement to: most SETX team sports are not respected by other Texas areas, except for Ozen's boys' basketball.
-
Quite honestly, none of SETX sports get much respect in the state of Texas. Seems to just be a fact of life. We're kind of used to it. :

I don't know how Alexis Brannon is in basketball, but in track...isn't she a beast? And, only a sophomore? Didn't Allie Beach play last year? Just wondering because her name sounds familiar. Congrats to all of the ladies who made it (and even those who didn't). Looks like this list makes up for all of the other ones....
