  1. I don't know that I could hop DOWN a hill or stand on TWO FEET! Roll...maybe! Hop...no way.
  2. Straight-leg deadlift (if not done properly) can cause the hamstring to snap the ischium (butt bone that we sit on) if you're not careful. The fracture mimics a hamstring injury and usually is misdiagnosed as such delaying healing. Just FYI for those athletes who do them.
  3. Amen to that Pogostick. ;D
  4. Houston has put out some high-caliber tracksters with the likes of Carl Lewis and Leroy Burrell. If their program is as it was 18-20 years ago...Mr. Carter should excel. Good luck to both of these gentlemen in their collegiate careers.
  5. I have the same concerns. Doesn't seem fair especially when it comes to issues with their ability to "recruit". Is it true that private schools are not required to administer the TAKS test? I mean, I guess my point is that if they want to be treated like public schools then there needs to be adherence and compliance with the standards expected of public schools across the board.
  6. 1. WO-S 2. Silsbee 3. Jasper As for Tobe...I hope he is a fixture at WO-S for some years to come. He is really good for the kids, not just in football and track, but as a younger coach that can relate to them better. Maybe we could brainwash his sister into wanting to moving back to this area so we can have his daddy back too! :-\ I know...wishful thinking!!! ;D
  7. Straight-leg dead lift! My son says it is essential for speed? :
  8. Hey guys...if you are bored after the game, you might run over to WO-S' cafeteria for the Ms. Mustang mock beauty pageant. It should be fun. ;D
  9. Talk about some tired young men...and ladies too. But, most made it and looked pretty darn good for having to rush home and do in 30 minutes-2 hours what others had 2 days to do!!! 8) I too cannot wait until April 11th and 12th....Earl, Jacoby, Josh, Nique!!!
  10. Good luck at the state track meet Dayton.
  11. Congrats to the Mustangs advancing to State...Jacoby, Josh, Dominique, and Earl in the two relays; Earl in the long jump. Incredible showing at Regionals. First Regional First in 3A track...awesome. Congrats to the 4X400 meter relay team of Josh & Jerel Gloston, Corey Bell, and Nick Reid...I know you guys were upset with your place...but you will continue to improve so don't be too hard on yourselves. Congrats to the 4X200 meter relay team of Van Jordan, Dominique Riggs, Brittney Scott and Hannah Mobley for getting to the finals today. You were probably the prettiest ones out there today... 8) 8) 8) All you Mustangs...have a great tonight at Prom!!! Congrats to Silsbee's Donovan Harris will also represent Southeast Texas at state in the 110 hurdles. Kudos to all of the other regional qualifiers from District 21-3A...you represented this district well the last two days. 8)
  12. Poodie is a beast. Reminds me some of Adrian Steen from the late '80s. I look for him to do well this season...and he deserves to do well!!!
  13. You know what...we are blessed to have the talent that we have almost year-in and year-out. To those who think we "underachieve"...thank goodness the ones who count (our numerous, quality athletes) know that they have not underachieved. My thoughts wandered where one of the previous posts...for whoever to say that we "underachieve"...you go to school WHERE? I am certainly curious. Say what you want, but WO-S is one of the best programs probably in the state of Texas. Sure, we have some issues, as most do, but our kids bust their arses in the offseason like noone I have seen around here and leave their hearts on the field almost every night. WO-S will continue to thrive and perhaps to the "overachiever" who's has called us "underachievers"...we prove what we are made of darn near every Friday night from August until November-December...want to know why? Because they are DISCIPLINED and know the consequences of making stupid mistakes (for the most part).
  14. I guess she's not coaching or anything? JW
  15. '87...you never cease to amaze me with your knowledge base. Pretty neat stuff.
  16. To the Orangefield girl's basketball faithful... whatever happened to Barbara Hickey? ???
  17. Well put jmspears3!! 8)
  18. April 27-28... Is there a schedule available for the regional track meet?
  19. Oh, BTW...we should have quite a few standout players this season. #24 Garrett should excel this year!!! ;D
  20. Ok. You are confusing me. First you say we need coaching and athletes to advance, then you say we have athletes and it's ashame that we can't make it far in the playoffs. Which one is it? There are no excuses for losing...we just lost. You will see many people on here blaming coaches, etc., but last season...we lost to the better team that particular night. Same the year before. The point is...it didn't happen. Just like with BC when their qb wrecked...just wasn't in the cards for them either. Call my posts stirring up the pot, but I post my opinion like everyone else on this website. Our coaches coach one game at a time... not a big secret. No, we didn't have a true field goal kicker (not for lack of trying), but we did the best we could with what we had. Field goal kickers usually need more than the course of a season to develop and we have lacked in that area more than we have had one. I can tell you that we're not "content" with "just making the playoffs"...but if our kids leave everything on that field...that's all we can ask them for.
  21. Wow...I seem to remember this thread being MUCH longer! :
  22. Read it backwards? Yep...that's it!!! ;D
  23. We have two D-1 players and then at least five more who are going D-2 or JUCO (and one that turned down a football scholarship for academic scholarships). I wouldn't call that "unsuccessful". We went to the quarterfinals this year and semi-finals last year. I wouldn't call that shabby either. And I suppose you should say that until any high school varsity team in the state of Texas makes it to the finals, their season is considered an underachievement. We have nothing to be ashamed of because we do still hold title of "Winningest high school football team in the state"...and these kids helped to contribute to that!!! That's something to be proud of! The point to my previous post was we do have class...Class 3A District 21. ;D
