.....and I am positive in 2026 the U I L will again move Lufkin around like a pawn, south, north or west to fill out some 7-8 team district. We are stuck in 5A DI for the foreseeable future, too big to fall to 5A DII and (2159) not big enough to move to 6A. The best fit for us would be 5A DII as far as having an East Texas district and decent travel. Enough schools to have two 5A DII districts. Enrollment precludes this happening of course, for us and Tyler High. We are the only 5A DI schools in all of East Texas. Tyler had to stay in that 7-5ADI district. It was a bum deal for them too, although they are at least 2 to 2 1/2 hours closer round trip to those South of Ft Worth schools than Lufkin. It's 86 miles from my home to Rose Stadium in Tyler.

Yep. Well I'm not the one trying to find a Week 3 game. That will be solved one way or another by Coach Quick not myself. We have had to travel longer distances for years, but it's NOT normally a disadvantage, it's more so for the school groups coming TO play in Lufkin. The folks from THW, New Caney and the Dallas area never liked the long trek to Lufkin. Those two games in Baytown and Galveston are not close to the distance and time to have played those South of Ft Worth schools, that's both ways. I'm positive none of them wanted to travel to Lufkin,. Things have not been a perfect situation for Lufkin in a long time, you have to go back almost 10 years the last time Lufkin was in an all East Texas 5A district, and for only a couple years at that, 2014.-2015. Even then, most all (except Nacogdoches 30 min) were 1.5 -2 hour drives to play. You have to go back to 2003 to find an all East Texas set up for us. Having to travel has always been the way for Lufkin and for that matter, all 5A or 6A teams in East Texas. The folks who really have to travel? Those are those West Texas and the Panhandle. teams, all classifications. I can't imagine, that is a different wide open spaces experience altogether.

Solved everything for us. What do you mean? Lufkin has always had to travel, for 50 years or more to play the bulk of our district opponents. We are stuck in the middle of East Texas with a bunch of smaller schools. Not like you guys all within spiting distance of each other. It's been many years since Nacogdoches was in Lufkin's district, all other opponents are around 100 - 150 miles from us. Going to Beaumont and Baytown is not any different than past district opponents like THW, Conroe, College Station, Longview or Tyler. However, going to play 4 teams South of Ft Worth, there is a big difference don't you think? Thus why we did not' want to be there. It's like the UIL making PAM or Beaumont go to Tyler or Longview to play a district games. Playing football that far away was not the main issue, it was our fans and all the support and performing groups getting there. It was playing the sub varsity games on a Thursday night getting home at 1 AM or later, and the kids needing to be in school on Friday.

Lufkin still looking for a Week #3 game, had some offers from 3A teams in LA, don't want those guys. 6A Eagle Pass and El Paso Coronado offered IF we would travel half way to San Angelo to play, too far and neither are contenders. Both ended up scheduling each other for non-district. Have been looking around in OK and ARK. The things is, schools are still hiring new coaches, and actually you can sign up for a game as little a weeks before the season begins. Hopefully the coach is able to find a game worth playing to help the team become better. Lufkin fans always travel well, except now they need to learn to travel in a new district. Seems every 2 to 4 years the UIL plays their pawn game, moving Lufkin football around so much we can't form any real district rivalries. One alignment we go North, the next go South, just a pawn to fill out a 7 or 8 team district for the UIL. Whatever UIL nut placed us the first time around in 7-5A with Cleburne, Joshua, Burleson and Waxahachie has no concept of time and space in Texas. To us it's like playing one big non district schedule every year, then we are moved again. The only constant with Lufkin is we do play Longview practically every year, whether in non district or district for the first time in many years these past two seasons. Longview has pretty much owned our tails the past 5 or 6 years. We don't know much about you guys, we have just left a two year stint in a highly talented district up North 8-5A DI with Longview, Forney, Lancaster, McKinney North, Tyler, North Mesquite and West Mesquite. It's going to be interesting to see how things play out this year. I'm not making any predictions for Lufkin because the program has missed the playoffs the past three seasons. There are not good vibes here between the fans and the coaching staff because of this lack of winning. After all we missed those playoffs with a P5 RB who went to Notre Dame. Read into that what you want. Will find out in about 3 months. Anyway, if you know someone looking for a Week #3 game, have them give Coach Todd Quick a call in Lufkin.

I really liked the PAM band, they are a mini Gambling style. Loud and Proud. Now, as far as the game between Longview and PAM, Wakeland did not run the ball much and didn't have much success when they tried, FW threw at least 50 times in that game last night. PA is a good tackling team and Wakefield had an outstanding TE who made big catches all night from lining him up in various positions. So, I can't say how good PAMs run defense really is because WF did not test it much. Longview will be favored in this game by at least 21 by DCTF. I just think if Longview comes in and doesn't shoot themselves in the foot with penalties and turnovers, they will win comfortably by at least 21. Wakefield was no Longview by any stretch, and they took PAM to OT?? Longview's dynamic run game may be a problem for PAM to control. Just saying, since I've seen both play now.

Just telling you Crosby folks, if you have never played in Longview, your in for a Lobo experience. Everything is Lobo there. The wolf calls and the Longview fans and band on the visitor side. Your down 14 before you get off the bus. The indoctrination is loud and long. Few visitors ever leave Lobo Country with a victory, and if by miracle it should occur, it will be a close nail biter because Longview never goes down easy. My prediction is Longview 56 Crosby 13. Longview is better than anyone you have seen this year or last year. Mark my words.

Well, I guess someone from the opposition should jump in here. Lufkin needed a game after last week in Tyler. 6A Legacy has one of the best teams they have had in a number of years. They are very good. It will interesting to see what they do the next couple of weeks, but if I were a betting man I would say watch out. Lufkin played about 10 sophomores in rotation last week, I guess you do stuff like that when you haven't had spring football or 7 on 7. Anyway, it cost us on some plays and here we are today. There are some folks who have been moved around this week, some sophs are back on the JV. So we will see if Lufkin has found a combination that works or not. Nederland should provide a good test on the road. Lufkin goes on the road next week too, to Magnolia West. The Panthers won't play their first home game until October 16th. Looking forward to see if we squash again or click things together. If you guys have any questions about Lufkin, maybe I could answer something for you. I think the SETX site has a 2020 run down on Lufkin. When you lose 70-32 the week before, I dare not make any predictions. PhatMike19 needs to change the topic to Nederland and Lufkin.

Texan Drive Stadium is awesome. Lufkin played Westfield there last year in the playoffs

Carthage screen is 1200 sq ft. Seguin and New Caney have new 1400 sq ft screens. Lufkin has a 36 ft W x 21 ft H (756 sq ft ) NEVCO LED HD video screen installed in 2016. Everyone is trying to get into this game, not to be out done by the other. Thinking about moving our current stadium screen next year to the new state of the art baseball - softball complex and getting a bigger one for the football stadium. Lots of new stuff going in over at Lufkin. New multi Purpose competition Gym right next to the home side stadium seats, all on campus for the first time ever. New Middle School and all. Listened to the game. Good game, tough loss for EC. Low scoring for sure, they just could not find the scoring tonight. Probably the best two 3A teams in the State though. We will see if Kountze can keep the ball rolling.

EC wins. Any chance EC and Kountze will meet in the next round or two?

Time for me to say , I was impressed with EC and underestimated them.. They had the best defensive pressure I have ever seen in a 3A or 4A or 5A classification. Great coaching. If you guys keep that up, you guys will be in Austin in a few weeks. If your not, I will be surprised. -
East Chamber vs Pollok Central
PackAttack replied to tennisbc's topic in High School Boys Basketball
We recognize them as the Central ISD Bulldogs around here. Pollok is an unincorporated community in Angelina County, Texas. I guess the UIL uses it as a point of reference even though the Pollok area is a few miles North of where Central High School is located. You cannot control the strength of schedule you end up with but the comparison I tried to make earlier is EC played 20 of their 33 games against teams with .500 records or less, while Central played 11 of their 32 games against teams .500 or less. It is win or go home Friday night, you only have to beat a team once in this part of the season. -

What makes EC the better team? Based on your observance of Central and Aransas Pass? I thought you said season results don't count. -

Central only lost 67-64 in that game with Aransas Pass, it was a close game through out. Plus they are a 4A team. I will be in Livingston tomorrow night to hopefully watch a really good basketball game. -

Don't be over confident about your press. I have seen Central break good presses all year. They play smart basketball. -

I don't see your point. I said nothing about about weak or strong. I fully understand you have to play who is in front of you, whether they are having a good year or not. I just stated how the schedule happen to turn out for EC this year. It could happen to any team out there. Play the hand you are dealt. That's all you can do. -

Well, you do have to look at season and similar opponents to see a match up level. Which in this case shows the EC and Central game will be a very competitive game . Look I am normally not a Central fan, mainly follow 6A Lufkin , now 5A. However, have some friends out at 3A Central about 5 miles from Lufkin who got me involved a little bit watching games. It is not 6A ball by any means but much more fundamental in most cases, which I like to watch. Should be a great game and the best part is I really don't have a dog in the hunt.
