MCM Post-game thoughts thread
shovel replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Here is a perspective from across the field from you all. Anything Barrow called would have worked. I was impressed with all facets of the Nederland offense. Hopkins is a hoss running back. Raines plays smart QB and he has very good recievers. Defense is top-notch too. Now that MCM is over, this ol' Indian fan is pulling for y'all too. Good luck to the Dogs for the remainder of the season and into the playoffs. -

Review of Provost Umphrey Stadium

Great post Cheermom, and I do agree. There are some great food options, as you mentioned. If you are looking for Cajun cooking, add Floyds or Pappadeauxs to the list as well as the Schooner restaurant. The author may not have know to look at any of these places and that is not his fault. Maybe we need to do a better job tooting our own horns. I think Lamar University and the city of Beaumont could certainly do better as well. Otherwise, a fair and well written article. -
Hello Yankee Dawg! You have been missed. I do hope you are doing well and look forward to more of your posts.
- The dancing indian forgot his little bells for his ankles !!!
Smoking Baby is gonna get you for stealing his lines. C'mon BigDog, you can do better than that!

Is that the best you can do? Wait... I see the Longhorn helmet... It probably is the best you got. Nevermind.

**OFFICIAL** Mid-County Madness Thread!!!
shovel replied to GoDogs27's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Big Ned has an excellent team this year and is my pick to win district. With that in mind, the Dogs should win this game easily. Buuuttt, on Friday night, especially at Mid-County Madness, anything can happen... The Indians performed a lot better this week than they have in the past. I'm hoping they can step it ups some more. I'll take the dark horse in this race and go with my Indians in a close one. By the way, nobody in purple is calling for coaching changes. Y'all are dreamin' worse than I am! Scalp 'em! -
This was a helluva ball game. Not much defense at all, but the kids on both teams played their hearts out. Congrats to the Central Jags for well deserved win. Congrats to the Indians for a hard fought game where they never gave up. An awesome halftime performance from both bands. A great night for football in Southeast Texas.

I wouldn't say LC-M is better than Vidor, but they are no pushover. Sezar is a phenomenal athlete, backed by a good offense. LC-M has a balanced offensive attack and a credible defense. I'll pick Ned to win, but wouldn't be surprised to see the Bears win either. Should be a really good game.
-
No predictions here as well. I did like that our kids played hard against LC-M, even when the game was out of hand. As long as the boys dont give up on themselves, I'm not gonna give up either. Good posts Soulja.

Sorry hipster, but our votes do not count. From what I understand, the large donors to the program are very happy with Ray Ray. Those are the votes that count. I guess our votes would count somewhat if we chose not to support the football program, but I cant do that though... Win or lose, I'm glad football is back at LU. Just for fun, lets compare apples to gooseberries. UL-M is a school half the size of Lamar with a fraction of the resources. They are having phenomenal success! The University of South Alabama is about the same size as LU, started a football program about the same time as LU and are on track to an FBS conference in 2013. The only thing holding LU back is not fans, facilities or donors. It is coaches and their recruits. I'll be happy if Woodard steps up his game; otherwise, I'll be comparing LU to what could-have-been.

Linebackers key shutouts for WO-S
shovel replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Lynch and Woodson are Beasts! Both impressed me against PNG. These young men will make a lot of noise this year. -
Cant crown a district champ before district play has even started, however, cant argue with a single post. I do look for Nederland and Vidor to set the pace for the title with Ozen & Livingston in the mix. I'm still not giving up on my Indians, but the've got a lot to do to run with the pack.

WOS Best Bet To Represent 3A In State
shovel replied to Kville_Kats's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Kville_Kats, I sure do like your optimism! Yes, WO-S does have the tools... It just that the season is getting started. So good, so far. I was a fan before they manhandled my Indians. They are an impressive team and I hope they go all the way too. -
SUMMER CREEK AT PORT NECHES-GROVES BROADCAST/SC wins 53-14!!
shovel replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I dont know biaplayer, it looks to me like our Indians took a step backwards. Tackling was poor, at best last night; although SC has some big, strong, FAST running backs. Walker looked more comfortable at QB, but his passes were bouncing off receivers hands all night. The whole team looked sluggish and flat-footed. Not what we are used to seeing in a Faircloth coached team. Saying all that, you have to hand it to Summer Creek; big, fast and athletic. Fortunately, we wont see a team of this caliber in district play. The boys in 19-4A better get ready for these guys. I'm not giving up on the Indians either. We have a couple weeks to get ready to face a struggling Lumberton team. -

You cannot quit everytime things get tough. If I had gotten pissed at a coach and ran my mouth and quit you can bet there would've been a price to pay when I got home.
does anyone know why he quit? reason I ask, Vidor had a kid quit after the wos scrimmage that was a potential starter. been playing ball since pee wees. was a senoir. he quit to go to work to help out at home. the kid is working two part time jobs after school. not saying this is the case here, but don't knock a kid for quittting if you don't know the situation behind it. and as a parent with a kid playing, we would discuss it, but ultimately it would be his descision, one that he would have to live with and i would support him no matter what.
Just say a disagreement with the coach and there is no I in team.
then that is a little different. sounds like attitude which imo is unacceptable. don't misunderstand my previous statement though. just pointing out that sometimes kids give it up due to certain circumstances beyond their control and until now it was only stated that the kid quit and the reason why had not been revealed. if he really quit due to a disagreement with the coach, then life is really gonna be hard for him.
Well, if thats really is the reason then he'll regret it in the long run. What if PN-G makes the playoffs? Heck what if they get in the playoffs and make a long run somehow? :o
What!!!! Are you saying there is a CHANCE that PNG will make the playoffs and I wont have to buy you dinner?
-
I dont know badndn. We got through the middle a couple of times, but the linebackers started sniffing it out and shut us down. PNG was fortunate to be able to score twice on the Mustang defense. The WOS offense could have easily scored half-a-hundred. This weeks game wont be a shutout, but Soulja will go home unhappy. Mustangs by 20.
-
I'll pick PNG, 'cause that's how we roll! I know nothing about Summer Creek, but honestly, I'm just looking for improvement from the Indians. WOS exposed our weaknesses and corrections will be made. If y'all will remember, PNG started slow out of the gate the last couple of years. This year is no different.
-
This was not a pretty game, but I got to see a very good WO-S team. The 'Stang defense is everything y'all said it would be ... and more! Outstanding LB play from Lynch and Woodson. I swear our announcer just got tired of calling Lynch's name, as he seemed to be in on every tackle. Yes, Our Indians have a lot of work to do. I cant remember a more penalized team. Thats not something we are used to seeing, and I'm sure it will be corrected. Congrats to the Mustangs. I too, am seeing a deep run in the playoffs. Good luck, and we'll play it again next year.
-
I'm going against the grain here and picking the Indians. After all, they are playing at home! Yes, they are going to have to step it up from last weeks performance. Yes, its going to be close, but the Indians will prevail.

PORT NECHES-GROVES AT SILSBEE BROADCAST/PNG wins 21-20!!
shovel replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Had trouble getting flashplayer updated on the 'puter. Finally got things going and listening. Good to hear Joe and Paul again! biaplayer, you know PNG starts slow. They will be OK. Big test next week though... Go Indians! -
If your team changed its mascot ?
shovel replied to raidernaytion's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This thread is funny and entertaining! I could see tying the schools to their surrounding areas. Barbers Hill Billies is a winner! I can see the goat mascot in a pink tutu. PN-G could be the Benzene. Swap our headdresses for hazmat suits... All Beaumont schools would be named after Dr. Thomas and all three teams would be the Butches. Lumberton could be the White Flight with a white dove as a mascot. I cant see Nederland changing anything. Their name change would be tied to a bond election and wouldnt pass... However, they could use the newer empty prison complex for a school and change the team name to Convicts. I guess I've offended enough already. Just kidding y'all! -
PNG vs Texas City Predictions????
shovel replied to dmeast11111's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
PNG fan here... This is just a scrimmage. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the outcome. We will see soon enough. Before Mr Buddy Garrity makes his post, PNG WILL make the playoffs!
