Nederland has only sophomores, JV, V teams. Most of sophomore team is freshman, however. Most of our teams in our district are the same. However, when we play BC, we might face Varsity players pitching to our freshman. Still scratching my head on those games. Don't mind our little guys seeing the heat early in their hs career.
Please elaborate on this if possible??? At this time of the year it's very common for players to travel from Varsity to JV during tournaments, but not from Varsity to Freshmen. Sounds like someone got some bad information. Rake1
technically BC does not have a soph team. They do have two JV teams. It gets confusing because some players are playing on all their teams including varsity.
The above statement that is high lighted is not correct. BC has 5 or 6 guys that have gone between JV and Varsity to get time on the mound, not anything new right here and certainly not a call for the "conspiracy theorists" to unite. Nearly every team in the area has practiced this for quite some time due to the fact that there are simply not enough innings to get everyone the much needed early season work that all pitchers should get. This area is blessed with some exceptional young arms and not all of them can throw at the Varsity level all the time so in order to get work in they often go between teams, especially during the tournament season. I have seen this practice quite a bit this year from more teams than just BC. No BC pitcher who has thrown in a Varsity game has pitched at a lower level than JV. The young pitching at BC is so good it just seems like they have. 8) 8) Rake1
Ooooooo Stating that no BC pitcher has pitched lower than JV is INCORRECT!!! They have pitched against Nederlands sophomore/freshman team. The date was February 7th. FACT!!!! They were missing the night their V played Nederlands V so they used them against the freshman team!
I guess my question would be since it was the first "game" (actually scrimmage) how would one know who was on what team when the coaches don't even know at that time? Maybe you got a text from Nostradamus and knew before the rest of us!! If that's the case can you please get the lottery numbers from him for me when you talk to him again. The reason those guys weren't there was because of a basketball game. Both BC underclassmen teams were combined for that SCRIMMAGE WHICH WAS A MONTH AGO! I somehow doubt a SCRIMMAGE had anything to do with Nederland coming to BC last week and getting beat and no hit. Again I believe my previous statement is indeed correct. Your statements would lead one to believe that BC has one group of pitchers who throw every game from freshman thru varsity which is obviously very laughable. You have tried to take one VERY SKETCHY example and pass it off as common practice. Not even close!!! Rake1 -

Which Nederland team played BC friday morning at BC and lost 6-0? Soph or JV? It was reported here, and confirmed by "Bulldogbacker", that it was a game between both BC JV and Ned JV. Just by looking at the players from both squads I would have to guess that's correct. I know guys from both teams and I would have to believe that was a JV game. A far as the other game between BC and Ned, the soph teams, I can't speak to that one because I was not there. Rake1 -
Haven't heard of them until your post. Will certainly check them out. Rake1

No issues with vibration that I have heard him speak of. I know that insert acts like a harmonic dampener similar to what you see on compound bow limbs. I may be mistaken but it seems like there is also some dampening technology inside the handle as well but I may be mistaken. I was good friends with a rep from Louisiana when they were still Albin bats and he was giving me all the low down on the features but I have slept since then and had one or more cold beverages as well. :D As for us we like the bat, it has held up really well. I was going to get him another one just like it but we have seen no obvious sign of "losing pop". Rake1
-
My son has been using a -3 Marucci White Cat 5 BBCOR since last summer without the insert in the knob and we have had ZERO problems. As a matter of fact it makes it easier to find his when they are all laying on the ground next to one another! ;D Seriously though we have seen no drop in performance, he has hit several home runs at high school and college parks, no worries here. JMHO. Rake1

But I have heard rumors that Jannise is on track to break the UNBREAKABLE record at HF of strikeouts set by Phillip Lynch
I know this should probably be on another thread but with all the talk of the strikeout record at HF what is the record? And also where did Logan Johnson rank on that list? He had a ton of K's it seemed like.
I believe that it is 135or 136, I may be wrong. Logan never had a bunch of strike outs he just had the ball put in play to eaves team in 09. I do know for a fact that he is the current leader for wins in a season.
I guess I must be mistaken because it seems his senior year he had several games with 12-15 K's in a game. I think he had 16 one night against WOS at HF, he had a pile of them the night he lost on the 1 hitter at BC when Menard hit the walk off HR. I could be wrong though????
I'm really not sure either. He may be up there. I'll ask him next time I see him. Wish you could have rephrased that heartbreak walk off by menard too lol some of us here are still sensitive when it gets brought up.
Probably no more sensitive than the folks from WOS are when they remember that ABSOLUTE MISSILE Tommy Wendlent (sp?) hit as a walk off against them the same night Johnson a gazillion K's. That should put a smile on your face!! :D

My predictions 1.BC 2.Silsbee 3.HF 4.OF 5.HJ 6.WOS I could certainly see a couple of upsets along the way, for sure. BC vs Silsbee will be a war as always, BC can pitch and Silsbee swings it well, look for fireworks. HF is always a tough game, they always swing it well, if their pitching stays healthy and stays solid they will be a tough matchup for anyone. OF will benefit greatly from their new coach, he is a small ball specialist and will have those guys ready to play. HJ also is heading in the right direction, a nice influx of some talented younger players will keep these guys in a bunch of games and certainly make them a thorn in the side of every team in the district. WOS will struggle but they will also play you down to the last inning, new coach has them playing the game the right way. Looking forward to some excellent and exciting games. I have been watching a bunch of these guys since they were very young and it puts a smile on my face to see them play well for their respective schools. I for one am hoping for an injury free year for all and a deep playoff run for 21-3A. Rake1

Buna vs. Hamshire-Fannett Game Thread/H-F wins 6-5!!
buna will be fine next year in 3a and the Franklin kid will be in the top 3 best players in the dist. he might even be the best one in the dist as a fresh andd he is better than any kid on the hf team right now too
Easy now big fella!! Those are mighty big words for a variety of reasons. 1. Heaping praise like this on a young player is not fair by any stretch. These young players put enough pressure on themselves without anyone else adding to the mix. 2. I know the Buna faithful are excited about the young freshman but you also have to be somewhat realistic as well. There are some very talented players in the district and many of them are underclassmen as well. I'm sure the young man in question will be a good player for years to come but to elevate him to the status of top 3 in the district is not only a stretch but also a misinformed statement. To be completely honest if was in 21-3A now he would probably be one of the top 3 freshman in the district but not top 3 players and that's not a knock on him at all because he is a legit player for sure. It just reflects how deep the overall talent, especially young talent, is in the district. 3. There is no doubt the younger players that Coach is playing will be the cornerstones of the Buna baseball program for years to come, these young men can play and it's very clear there is amazing support and excitement from the Cougar fans. As long as that excitement is tempered with good judgement the sky is the limit. Lets all just step back, take a deep breath, and enjoy some good baseball. Good luck going forward. Rake1 -
Let's hear your Top 5 baseball teams?
We've played a couple of weeks. Don't be a looky lou, register and give your opinion. It doesn't matter what classification. Our new poll will be out tonight, here is my Top 5 that I submitted this morning: From last week's action only, 1 LCM 2 PNG 3 Barbers Hill 4 Nederland 5 Goose Creek
1. Barbers Hill- Talented on both sides, offense and defense 2. PNG- Solid squad with a very underrated pitching staff. 3. LCM- Fundamentally sound. A good showing in next tourney will solidify them as a legit contender. 4. Nederland- Extremely deep and tough throughout the lineup. 5. BC-Handling a tough early season schedule very well without 2 main players recovering from injuries. No disrespect to any other schools, I have not seen everyone play yet. I will give some others a nod of recognition for sure because they will certainly be in the mix. Silsbee- They can swing the stick and have some top shelf pitching. Vidor- Good athletes that seem to always find a way to be in every game. Orangefield- New coach getting it done with young pitching staff. Rake1 -

Rake1 Way too early to make that call! Looked like a combination of many things to me. Extended layoff due to rain, cold, maybe under estimated WOS, lack of on field and live game reps, BBCOR, and certainly the fact that WOS played hard and smart baseball. Make no mistake, LCM is talented and has some really good, young, power arms for sure. Like all the other teams who are behind schedule right now, give them a few games and then make a determination. My guess is both LCM and WOS do just fine. Rake1
Thanks Rake just looking at the box score had me scratching my head a little lol
Coach Landry should be proud of an EXTREMELY young team for their performance last night. 3 freshmen started for the Mustangs and 2 of them pitched during the game. Pushing a team like LCM as far as WOS did has to be a big confidence builder for the younger players. The LCM faithful were scratching their heads for most of the game waiting for the Bears to break out, which they finally did in the 6th and 7th innings. The youth movement for the Mustangs will suffer some bumps along the road this season but it looks like Coach Landry has them pointed in a positive direction. Should be fun to watch in the future. Lost in that box score is a very nice performance by OF Soph pitcher Blake Permenter who entered the game after Ozen scores 7 runs in the first and proceeds to go 5 1/3 innings with 7 K's and 2 earned runs. Although he didn't finish the game it was certainly a bright spot for the young Bobcat squad. 3 Sophs and a Junior on the pitching staff spells brighter days down the road. Rake1
