I am so proud of the boys and the coaching staff. Newton has a great team this year and I wish them the best in their playoff run. EC would not be able to handle Deweyville's huge front. The Pirates would still be in the playoffs in that district. All this may be fun to talk about, but Deweyville needs to get ready for Elysian Fields in the area round of the playoffs. The Pirates will be to physical for the Yellow Jackets. Pirates 63 Yellow Jackets 31 GO PIRATES!!!! GO EAGLES!!!!! Congrats to the BUCS on their overtime win over Troup!!!!
I think you're mislead about the talent difference in these two districts. Deweyville is good. And should go far. But EC and Newton would both have good sized wins. And there's three or four other teams that could beat them in this district.
;D ;D ;D ;D :o ;D ;D The Pirates would smoke EC this year. Fact EC lost to HJ: Fact HJ barely beat HF: Fact Deweyville rolled HF up in scrimage, yes I know it was a scrimage but it was ugly HF could not even think about stopping them, much less doing it. as far as anyone other than Newton beating them? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

A 32 point win is a little optimistic.
I understand your hesitation, but we watched them play last night. Line backers are small and defense is very spongy we will win by 30 they can't stop our offense, however they are explosive on offense but will will stop them some, I look forward to a 60 to 30 win. remember we have punted 3 or 4 times all year. No turnovers and the Pirates win this one BIG!
Well, I haven't seen a bracket that picks Deweyville to win yet. In that regards, they are probably considered the underdog. However, Deweyville has definitely flown under the radar so far. I won't be surprised at all if they win it.
I understand, why would they LOL! we have never gotten it done before. We need to take it a game at a time, but I really do think we take this one by a sizable margin, but we will see!! :D
456 is very impressive. Deweyville had 498 in thier last game against Groveton.
But 498 is a little more impressive, lol! Gonna be a great game. Are y'all going to any other area games tonight? My tribe is going to see Garrison vs Paul Pewitt in Carthage, Pewitt was our last game in regular season, and we have a pretty good history in the playoffs vs Garrison.
I am going to go 4a and watch the Vidor Pirates!
One fact about Deweyville, the Pirates have not won a district championship since 1983. Babin has done tremendous job. I agree that Coach Spears at Community Christian should be mentioned as well. Building a powerhouse in the second year of a school is a great accomplishment. Neuman and Mathews are great coaches also and have done great work this season. If you get excited about about Neumann winning back-to-back undefeated district titles, then you have to be excited about WOS's Cornel Thompson. LC-M's Randy Crouch had a very young team that looked absolutely terrible against WOS in the opening game and almost took them to the playoffs.
You are right about all these coaches, personlly I am a huge mathews fan also, but let me tell some of you what some of you don't know. I won't mention kids names, but 4 starters were not on the starting line up this year as Babin came in to look at the depth chart and 4 or 5 key changes were made in position changes in a system which had won 3 district games in 4 years and now are District champs, Neuman won it last year and Mathews went three rounds (if not mistaken), deep last year. Babin WINS!!! LOL!

When you have guys trying to inject knee poison ( cut blocks) every play you tend to slow down on defense. Vidors offense will score in bunches
Vidor is gonna need to score slowly... You don't want a shoot out. It's gonna be difficult to break long runs with consistency. The team speed with SC is too good to let that happen for very long. Vidor will have to keep moving the chains.
I agree, and I think Jeff does also that is how his team is built. -

Alto or Harleton wins, plays Hull-Daisetta?
captainclaude replied to H-D BOBCAT 55's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Alto is pretty banged up from what I hear. As long as Whitaker is healthy, they are gonna be tough. I think Alto pulls this one out against Harleton by two scores. As far as HD vs. Alto, I think HD shocks the world (except the community of HD) and beats Alto in Rd. 2. Yes, HD had a weak district, but they dominated like they should have. The scores may not reflect that, but Finney likes to let his foot off the gas when the victory is well within hand. HD has won 5 games in a row and here's what the scores were at one point: HD vs. O'Connell - (34-0 2nd qtr) HD vs. Normangee - (43-6 3rd qtr) HD vs. Iola - (36-16 4th qtr) HD vs. WH - (44-6) HD vs. Colmesneil - (27-0 2nd qtr) Alot may be surprised when they meet the Bobcats!!! (if they beat Harleton)
I think Hull can beat them! -
Babin hands down!!! Hell, I will give him coach of the decade!!!

VIDOR vs SUMMER CREEK D1 ROUND 1
captainclaude replied to dustoff03's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This will be a challenge for the Pirates no doubt, but they have a good shot with jeff's wing t. People forget and under estimate the effectivness of a ball control offense because it isn't popular and flashy like the spread, it is perfect for Vidor, they can't get into a track meet and win. Vidor dominates time of posession and pounds the ball in the endzone, causes a turnover or two and they win in a close one. 30 to 24 Vidor. -
Awesome game boys to hold this explosive team to 14 before the starters were pulled is amazing, enjoy this moment you all deserve it, but we are not done yet. I am very proud of each and every one of you and think of you all as my own. I would also like to say that we are blessed to have coach Babin and coach Webb coach and mentor our kids and show them how to be good sports and young men, I see these two men pouring their hearts out teaching not only football but life lessons to these young men with extraordinary dedication and passion, and I thank you and pray that my youngest son will have the opportunity to play for you two, may God bless you and Go Pirates!!!!
Correct me if I am wrong, but I remember a lot of complaining when DV hired Babin from DV people. I thought ya'll wanted another guy? Seems like he has changed ya'ls minds
I don't know where you heard that from but I assure you myself and lots of others fought our a--! off to get Babin and he was the only candidate we wanted.
What I don't understand is why ya'll keep talking bad about McDaniel. He is gone and you are happy with Babin. Leave the past where it belongs and stay positive about what you have.
You are right, I apologize for being tacky! It is just rediculous that we can't give these kids some simple respect for doing well or a little appreciation for a new coach that has done an outstanding job, without making bull ----! excuses about us being a good team and now we are going to tear down everybody in our district. Kepp playing hard Deweyville you boys know what you are capable of and I support you all the way!!!
-
Clint obviously this is an ex coach who's pride is hurt just let it go cause this Falcon dude is either McDaniels or a tennis coach, a couple of weeks ago we couldn't beat Corrigan and when we out rushed them by 147 yards and had three turn overs we got lucky by playing them close then we couldn't beat NW now groveton isn't any good. Everyone forgets when these kids were 12 they beat everyone in the triangle including the mighty WOS mustangs and won in junior high and won at the JV level, then they fell to the NO coaching era and by the grace of God got Babin and are doing what they have done their whole lives, now we have a week district, they will prove themselves under the direction of Babin and then the haters and week minded Falcons will be grounded to the reality that this is an awesome group of young men who finally have what they have lacked, A COACH
Lets not get ahead of ourselves they are ranked in the state for a reason. They are also like number 3 in region 3. Lets just worry about Groveton first. Lets not get to cocky. But I do believe Deweyville will be crowned district Champs Friday night.
I agree with that, LOL But we will beat them due to the play of the line and from what cc coaches said, they win if not for 4 turnovers, and rankings mean nothing when you are a team like EF with a tradition of winning, we dominated NW and they are still ranked ahead of us and rightfully so, we still need to prove ourselves so to speak. I am not cocky, just very confident, coached these kids for years, watched them play for years, we are bigger and stronger, we have an awesome coach, WE WIN!!!!!!!!!
Any idea who they will play in the first round?
Looks like Elysian Fields, and I bet my new deer rifle they WILL NOT be one and done!! They will not be able to stop our offense.

Does Lumberton need a coaching change?
captainclaude replied to beaumontballer44's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
1. Almost entirely new varsity staff still learning the system. (Difficult to find coaches that will come to Lumberton or stay in Lumberton for the pay) A total of 8 Coaches left in two years for an average profit margin of no less than 5,000 more a year. 2. Whoever said in an earlier post that the students over look the fact they can win at the middle-school level because they are playing other schools that are devided in two needs to tell their parents. Its unbelievable how nieve some parents are in Lumberton. 3. Someone touched on it earlier, you would have to be blind not to see the average size and weight differance on the O and D-line. O-line avg.= 220lbs (3 at 200 or less); D-line avg. = 190lbs. This might be ok for a 60's or 70's team, but not even Saban magic could overcome this big a margin! There are other issues, some that have already been stated, but not any that i can tell are the outcome of poor leadership, coaching, or decision making on the part of Coach Credeur. Honestly, the folks in Lumberton are fortunate that HE has chosen to come and STAY here. And dont forget, 6A is coming and there is certainly some talent coming up. The L-Train will be back on track before long. I guarantee!!
I agree, just to add to your point Deweyville has 201 in high school and our line avg. is 252 Lumberton is just small right now and if you can't match up in the trenches you usually lose. -

How can you not go with Nederland? ??? Just saying!! -
In the larger schools the talent level is more equal as they pull from a large student population. A talented group of players is more impactful in the smaller schools which is why teams such as Groveton with 17 seniors in 2010 was very good and then went back down. Deweyville has a very good junior class and they have done well this year and will do better next year. SA has 17 seniors who have been on varsity starting as sophmores, they were 3-7 that year, 8-3 last year, and will make a deeper run this year. Next year SA will step back. Alto is where SA was last year, they will be better next year. Good coaching will always maximize what is available and minimize the damage in lean years. Keith Gardner will not be a better coach next year but he will make it deeper in the playoffs than this year. Wayne Gandy was no less of a coach the last 2 years than he is now , yet everyone was questioning his offense and coaching abilities the last 2 years. Now Joaquin is undefeated and ranked #5 in the state. He is doing the same thing this year that produced losing records the last two years. The only thing that changed was the talent level on the team. Every coach knows that success comes down to the players. Without players who can play they will not have success.
I agree, however there are great coaches, good coaches, okay coaches and bad coaches, the question was do they make a differance and the answer is for sure YES!
