Y'all need to quit having a poll. Those two teams would beat any of the 4 teams in front of them by comfortable margins.
and some folks continue not to get it. ::) These rankings aren't necessarily about who could beat who. When you combine 3 classifications, you just cannot rank the teams in that regard. Other factors are considered in these rankings.
;D
See how much of a difference a talented sophmore class becoming a talented junior class makes? When they become seniors they will be better, then after that DV will take a step back and it will not matter who the coach is.
The MVP of the team is our line, I agree that the Junior class is a bunch of awesome kids, I coached most of them and i still hold a close relationship with them. Last years team was as good or better and we got beat by NW 56 to 7, let me tell you coaching is the difference bottom line, we have Mc Daniels we get ripped again, PERIOD!! Babin is the best thing that has happened to us in a long time. GIVE THE MAN the credit he deserves. There are 24 spots on a team a kicker a punter 11 offense 11 defense of those 24 spots on the team there are 15 seniors 2 sophmore's and 7 juniors acording to my math that is 8% soph, 29% junior and 63% senior starters. Also there are only 4 kids off of the Jr. High team you mentioned and two of them during there eighth grade run were suppose to be in High school, the (running backs), it is not hard to dominate when you are 15. These are great kids but the fact that they won district is the reason they are winning and don't need a coach? Come On! Mcdainels first year here we had the biggest line in 2A (FACT) and a group that won district not only in Jr. High but JV also, and they could not buy a win against a good team. The kids are great but they have been, and yes talent in a couple of years will fall and then it will pick up again as it does anywhere I agree, but lets stay focused on the fact that we have an awesome coach and support him because I promise you it does not matter whose kids are out there they won't be sucessful without coaching. Deweyville went years until Bickham came without going to the playoffs and he brought us twice, think back at the coaching before he got here, remember the talent after him and the horrible games we had to endure and let's thank God we got Babin and for our talented kids in all the grades. -

This year New Waverly is 7-1 so far. What has changed to think that Deweyville can win this by double digits? Just curious.
Deweyville lost to Corrigan last year 49-0. This year we lost by 3 points. This will be a close game.
Well, New Waverly beat Corrigan by 21. However, New Waverly could be overconfident based upon last year's result. New Waverly has a stout running game and a very solid defense. They also appear to be 100% healthy. I think Deweyville has a shot at this but they absolutely will have to bring the A game.
We beat CC every where but the score board and out rushed them by 147 yards and had three turn overs, Babin will be the differance, and cc had injuries and a freshman QB when they played NW and were full force when we played them. We WILL BEAT NW!

They are like the step brother to Newton and it just drives EC fans crazy. LOL.. Newton gets all the love because they are year in and year out a powerhouse and EC is not a powerhouse sorry yall are a good 2A team but you will never and have never been a threat to win a state title year in and year out. Sorry to stating the facts. Yeah you may have won the district the last few years but as always you make an early exit in the playoffs every season. EC hasn't in a long time even made a threat to win a state title.
Last 8 years Newton 80/22 EC 67/24

This is the hardest 2a district in the state. A whole lot more competitive than the district they just came out of. Yes they will win a few but won't beat ec, anahuac, and newton.
Anahuac????? in the last 8 years they are 500 with a 42/41 record?

I hear some are coaches from Katy and such; my fear is we will get star struck because they are from a big town, the problem with that is what we have been through since Bickham left we will be running systems like the spread that don't suit our talent base. We need a power football system of some sort to be successful like Nederland, Vidor and Lumberton run; if we take a big school guy from a larger talent pool they will only know the more flashy big play systems that are not favorable to our kids. Let’s hope we finally realize coaches learn football from the Coaches they are or have been under as they come out of college and that is what we need to focus on not the fact that they were at a BIG or even successful school. The Brook can win with the spread but they also have 2000 kids in High School. What are your thoughts?
I understand what you are saying, but maybe a little fact that will ease your mind. Katy does not run the spread. They run the I and may run farther outside than off tackle maybe 2-3 times a game. Katy is THE ESSENCE of power football.
I did not know that and it does ease my mind because I have already heard some (Oh MY we had an applicant from KATY!!!!!) crap. I think Coach MAC is a super person I just don't want to see us trying to run that sort of offense anymore. Just my opinion and thanks for the info.
One consideration that needs to be remembered is that the UIL like to keep close to a equall number of teams in each classification. So while the numbers at some schools go down you have to factor in that the only classifications that are adding schools in almost every case is 4A or 5A. But howmany schools will be added is unknown at least to me. Just because the numbers drop does not mean that a school will drop the addition of schools at the top will mean that the numbers in the lower classifications can increase as well, so the numbers in classifications and even divisions for 1A & 2A will increase. In the case of Deweyville with a 79 student difference that is likely going to mean a change, but without dramatic shifts like that it seems likely that teams will not make as many shifts as most of this thread seems to think they will be making.
If I understand this right it will only help Deweyville as we are traveling in some cases 3 1/2 hours now to play schools that have say 335 and our count right now is 196. what are your thoughts? -
I'm sorry....but I think this whole thing is kind of stupid, and going to backfire in the worst way. First of all: Each team is going to have a few kids fresh out of school (probably skill positions) that just dominate the offensive side of the ball. Everyone else is either too old or too fat and out of shape to catch them. Second: I'm sure that there are a lot of people signed up to relive some glory days of high school, that are just going to get injured (probably pretty serious). I would hope that most of these men need to be working and might have a family to support. Why would you risk getting hurt and possibly missing work...or worse. Third: Most of these games are "rivalry" games. You KNOW that there are going to be fights break out. Either because of the rivalry itself, or because 1 team has more young, athletic guys than the other and are just beating the crap out of the other team. I doubt there is going to be anybody there that will stop the bleeding if a game gets out of hand. THIS IS A BAD IDEA!!
What?????????

The STJFL pee wee and Jr. make up I feel is awesome we just don't have the numbers to field that.

Lonstar JR Football All Stars?
What do ya'll thing about having All Stars for the league, we have two divisions and enough teams to pick two all star teams and play a game. I remenber being chosen for all stars in the Orange Memorial League what a thrill. Still remenber the game played at the field on 16th and Strickland. LETS ADD ANOTHER MEMORY FOR THE BOYS AND GIRLS JR. CAREER.
I think it would be fun we have done it in the past but it is hard to get every one on board after the regular season is over, if we start now and let everyone know ahead of time we can probably do it. If you are interested in it come to our next meeting and lets try and organize it. March 14th in Silsbee at 6:00pm call if you need directions. 880-0431 -

Why is that acceptable?
Their best back was 8 years old, Mc Cain and he weighed 70 lbs. what games were you at? look nobody is making excuses they whipped Silsbee just as I said they would. WOS looked great but, they were as big as our seniors with there 10 year olds and thats fine cause thats how STJFL is built nothing wrong with that but don't bash us cause we don't do it. The reason is simple, we need 3 year age brackets to have enough kids we are smaller most of us anyway, STJFL is awesome and I love what you are doing, but it just doesn't work for us crap, and we have been playing with larger ten year olds in seniors for ten years now as did some of your towns when we started STJFL. When will all of the hard fellings and animostiy die? As far as the seventh graders they are 12 for the 900th time we feel that 12 is 12. We play 12 year olds to fill out teams reguardless of the rumors no one ever has more that 4 or 5 unless there is some freak year somewhere but they still are 12 . I personally have not held a gun to anyone and made them play in Lonestar if you don't like 12 there are other options. Again I like STJFL and have alot of friends over there and look forward to the day we can get along and work together.
Captain, I think you stepped off of the deep end. 92 was simply asking questions that he didn't know the answer to and thats why he asked. He didn't accuse anyone of anything or bash Lonestar for anything. He simply didn't know the answers nor did I for that matter. I think you had a flash back to the days when there were hard feelings between STJFL and Lonestar. Maybe there still are some but not with 92 or myself. Good luck next season.
Sorry if I took it the wrong way I just get tired of the crap on 12 year olds when for some reason they are supposedly stronger than a kid that failed and is in the sixth grade now I see that there are some proposals for 13 year olds to play against 11 year olds. How is that okay for a teenager who has reached maturity to play an 11 year old and we get it for a 12 year old to play a 86 lbs and bigger 10 year old.?. As far as the other I was against this game because of the eight and nine year old running backs on Silsbee's team so I did not understand the comment about nice size kids when our 10 year olds are 85 and under and his backfield didn't even have a 10 year old in it. And I am not making excuses WOS is awesome I just did not think they matched up well enough to play without serious injuries and thank the good Lord I was wrong they were only a few minor injuries. Good luck to you also I hope we all have a great year next season.
I think maybe there were some kids brought in. The kids we played weighed more than 85 lbs. The other reason I thought that was they had way too many "too many men on thefield" calls. They seemed very unorganized and I attributed that to the fact that they may have brought some kids in to play with them. Which was perfectly fine because that's what was agreed upon. Again Good Luck.
They were, and they did bring some kids in but it was off the Jr. white team thats where the QB came from when they tried to throw the ball which wasn't a good idea. lol
