does dayton have starters not playing this game?
Dayton is going to sit all the starters on offense and defense.  Games against 20-4A are always viewed as a good opportunity to get the JV some experience.

Whoa Dude! Careful, or you'll have all those injun fans over here.

Trying to figure out our (Central) possible playoff road.  Who is the winner 24-4A Division 1?  I hope not Friendswood. ???
Yep. They're not listed yet either for some reason, but that's them. Just wouldn't be right if it was anyone else. But you better be more worried about Humble.
  3. Martinez is a blur, no doubt. But that's it. I said from the beginning of this season that as soon as the other teams figure out how to stop that zone read, or he gets hit by one of the big boys, that scheme will be ancient history. Looks like it already starting lose its effectiveness. Martinez couldn't go anywhere against the bigger faster defenses such as Texas.

Cody still has a ways to go. But he needs playing time. He's improved alot already just with the time he's got. Seems to me you would want the bigger, stronger QB who can pass and run, being groomed to be the #1 guy for the full three years. Just think where Cody could be if he'd been starting the whole season. I understand the Nebraska coaches are trying to win a championship now and not two years from now, and Martinez gives them another weapon out of the backfield. I guess they made their decision. At some point though, in the big game against against a real defense, Martinez won't be able to run or get hurt (again), or both. Then what. Zach Lee? A rusty, inexpierenced Cody Green? Just my two cents.

What made the Livingston offense click the last time Dayton played them is that there running back got to the line really quick and was through the gap before the linebackers could read them.  Can't wait for Saturday.  Weather on Saturday looks to be FANTASTIC!

Our safety had 19 tackles that game, 12 solos and 7 assists.
He was a good one alright! How's he doing anyway? Is he still playing ball in Louisiana?
wow... that kid must've been good.  ;D
I thought he was pretty dang good.  ;D

He (Dylan Bethea) went to Abilene Christian, broke his hand, currently attending San Jac, tranferring in the Spring to play ball, hopefully.
Ford Smesny is who you must be thinking of that went to McNeese, he graduated in 07'. He is still their, starting Buck Safety.
I was thinking of Smesny. They were both great ball players though. Thanks for the update.

Hey some guy from Pearland Dawson said the same thing on some other site, but he was dead serious.  Lol.

What site might that be? Like I don't spend enough time in front this screen already! Lol! I still want more.
  7. They don't have it filled in but isn't Manvel the 24-4A div. 2 winner? I'm pretty sure they are. Manvel is my dark horse pick to make it to the quarter final (regional) game. Maybe farther even. I've been watching that team for a couple of years now and they are stout.

Actually, they're not really a dark horse. Just a real solid team that doesn't get much publicity due to the stacked district they're in. They manhandled Sante Fe and almost beat FW. The other district loss was to Lamarque. Not sure what happened in that game, but hey, it's Lamarque. Manvel will be there to face either Brenham, El Campo or Dayton in the quarters.

thought this would be the place to find out !!! but it seems that no1 knows what i am talkn about, so that kinda answers it 4 me !!!
the part that got me was the "soon enough" comment. It just seemed you were enjoying the fact that something negative might be happening. I suppose I misunderstood. :)
No you didn't misunderstand. I got the same vibe. Pot-stirring plain and simple.

Does Rip have more left in the tank when playing linebacker or when playing DE and TE/T on offense.  Less running is involved with the offensive and defensive line line scenario, but he is really good at LB.  What do you guys think?

I REALLY like the Defensive line when Rip, Wright, and Toussant are playing.  Don't forget that Booth can play a little Defensive End as well.  Can you imagine how nasty the combo of those four players would be subbing in and out on the Defensive line?
I know what you mean Dude. I like the looks of those big three on the line, but I think it will depend on the type of offense we're facing. Playing LB will give him freedom to rome to whichever gap he's needed. I would think LB against Livingston would the best spot for him, but who knows. The other LB's are playing tough now also. Duff, Bugsby, and #35 (forget name) are pretty stout in their own right. I'm gonna trust the coaches on this one, but if they call me to ask my opinion, I'll be ready. ;D

I'm glad I put a little life in this thread!  ;D  Playoff football is awesome!  Does anyone have a link to the 4A small school bracket?  I want to see who we play in the 2nd and 3rd round before we beat Brenham in the regional final.  LET THE SMACK TALKING BEGIN!!!
I'll make a deal with you. I'll give you this link if you promise to put down the crack pipe.  ;)

"What Happened", you posted while I was typing.  So, your starting QB is out, numerous injuries down the line and you still think you can hold on to win by 7?  The Indians with a 6-4 record can be beat.  It's happened 4 times this year.  The bad news for you guys is our defense is getting exponentially better week by week and even if the D layed down this Friday you'd better be able to put 40 on the board and that's not gonna happen this Friday.  The same goes for any team we face in the playoffs.  Our offense is the best you've seen all year, no question,  and possibly the best you've seen in a decade.  So, be prepared to leave Beaumont unhappy at around 10:30pm Friday night!
That was the friendliest verbal abuse I've ever heard.
  12. Okay I gotta know if anyone else saw this play. It was early in the game, first quarter I think. Broncos have the ball and they're driving. Somewhere around mid field. King is lined up in their 4-3 defense. Herrera drops back to pass and all the Dayton offensive lineman step back to pass block. Then the magic happens.....all the O-linemen, at the same exact time drop down low and take out the legs of the King line. The whole defensive line dropped to the ground like a curtain on a bad one-act play!

Herrera then completes a 15 yd. pass over the middle for a first down. I'm telling you it was a thing of beauty! I don't know if Wadzeck or Hamilton said anything on the radio, but you could hear me hollering. I've never seen anything like it. I was sitting behind one of the offensive lineman's Dad, and he heard me commenting on the play. He said they had practiced that to help the QB be able to see better.

The excellent coaching of the offensive and defensive lines has really been superb. That one play was worth the price of my ticket.

Who started the fight? Do we know? I understand frustration, but this is getting out of hand.
From what I saw, #14 started the whole thing. After the kick return was over, for some reason he went all prison yard on every Dayton player in the vicinity. After that, everyone got involved. I think # 84 and # 5 were ejected for Dayton. Not real sure about 84 though.

    Did a little research.......

Here is the UIL exception to the NCAA rule:

9-2-2-d-pen UIL: Disqualification is for remainder of game only. UIL District Committees may apply additional disciplinary action.

According to the UIL, the players are eligible for the next game.  Now the question is, does BH have a more harsh local policy regarding player ejections?
Yes. They make them do 54 push-ups.  ;D
  15. Wow. Sad to hear it's that bad down there. I remember seeing the real Lamarque Cougars beat Denton Ryan in San Antonio for the title back in 02' (I think) and I thought they looked like Michigan out there. Just an overwhelming display of discipline and talent. I always hate to see a once glorified program go bad. Especially from our region. Kinda like Baytown Lee. I guess it happens. Still sad to see though. Good luck in the playoffs (at least you are in the playoffs) and in the future seasons.

And by the way, thanks for the scoring updates on 24-4A throughout the year.
