Cannot stand the "if" Dayton would hang on to the ball talk....probably gonna make my fellow Dayton brother's mad but if Dayton doesn't find their offense then it's going to be a long season, period.  Hopefully they'll get it going this week.
It doesn't make me mad to hear the truth. You are right keem-o-sabee. I saw signs of improvement against Angleton but then the fumbles started. We did move the ball pretty well in the first half. We didn't have the ball much in the second half. Good job by Angleton.

I thought the sophmore running back did a good job but he is small. The Broncos have to go back to Jakari at RB. He is the most explosive player on the field. He is big, strong, and very, very fast. He just has to get over the fumblitits.

I'm thinking we start to see a much improved offense on Friday. Broncos by a TD.
  2. This Dayton team is basically the same team that lost a close game to Brenham in the regionals. I'll be the first to say the offense has not looked sharp yet, but I've said that every year in the beginning of the season. Even the state year we looked terrible in a beat down at FW.

0 - 2 or 2 - 0 really doesn't matter that much. What matters is how strong this particular team will be come playoff time. I realize that to outsiders, it may be starting to get old hearing us Dayton fans talk about our slow starts and strong finishes, but as someone stated earlier, thats REALITY 101!

I would like to see GCM abandon this pistol formation and go to a more spread type offense. This allows a second or more time for the QB to throw the ball and not have to do the short two or three step side roll out. It still allows a zone read on the run and you can even have a two back set. The defense it just crashing the QB and RB very play and there is really not a passing game that the defense needs to defend. The receivers do not run any crossing patterns that I can see. It is almost all vertical routes where they all run 8 to 15 yards down field and turn around like a curl. They will run some short out routes but nothing over the middle. I would love to defend this. I know that the line is also struggling but I am hoping they can work with what they have in some way to generate an offense. There are a few athletes at receiver that could help get into some open space if allowed to run. I think the QB can get them the ball saving a little time.

I am not the coach so it is just an opinion. These kids need to be challenged and motivated and encouraged that quiting is not an option. There is really no Senior leadership that you would expect someone to step up. The coach can encourage someone with this ability to step up and motivate this team as they are dead. Get excited to play the game and have fun.

    I thought they might.

I don't know, maybe I'm reading more into it than I should, but I got the distinct impression from this article that the coach isn't exuding a lot of confidence himself.
I think there were a lot of questions coming in to this season that they were hoping would get answered by now. I am not going to blame the coaching because it can just make matters worse and there are enough issues with this team. The offense has to know which direction they are going. You do not have a chance if you can line up and run right over the line at will. If it takes taking some D-linemen and moving them over, then do it. We already have some injuries and it could be worse. I would venture to say that the JV line may be bigger than the Varsity line. Move them up and teach them the game as it will not be worse than now. I am not saying the kids are not trying, it is just not working. I think the Soph. QB moved up can play several postions if they elect to not play him at QB the whole game. He looks like he could help out at receiver or slot receiver now. Give them a chance and we should have the Junior QB back for district and from what I saw last night he throws the ball better and  is the better leader on this team after seeing the Sophs have some trouble. The RB postion is fine and even the backup should be on the field somewhere. The best athletes need to be on the field on both sides of the ball. Heck, play the RBs and QBs on both sides, Dayton does it and they are not worried about injuries.

No Dayton does not do it. It has happened in the past...some. But it's not the norm.

Is there alternative parking in case that fills up?  Is it even in danger of filling up?  I seem to remember having trouble last time I went, but that was 13 years ago.
Visitor parking is still an issue (to say the least). That side hasn't changed much in 13 years. The old visitor side is now the home side with expanded seating and parking. You shouldn't have too much trouble if you get there early. If you don't, you may have to walk a little.

This game is in Dayton correct?
Where is Dayton's stadium located now?
Where's the best place to park?
Hard to miss, it's the largest structure in the city (except for the rice dryer). Stadium is one block east of hwy. 146 as you come into town from the south. Best parking is on the home side behind the Jr. high school. (Enter off of hwy. 146)

Manvel has been tough for a couple of years now. Sounds like they've really put it together this year. Hope they go Div. 1. ;D
I'm pretty sure they'll be D2.
Yea, I looked it up after I posted and I think you're right. Unless something really weird happens in 24-4A. My guess is FW & Dawson div. 1. Manvel & whoever steps up div.2. I'll go with Manvel as distict champs.

Hey does anybody know why the Broncos never try to block a punt? It would make more sense to me if they were setting up a return, but they never return it either. Just wondering.

    Broncos 21
    Kitty Cats 14
I've often wondered this myself.  Maybe we are saving our super secret, highly indefensible punt blocking plays for later in the year?

Broncos D gets it done and the offense comes alive....
    Dayton 31
    Diggs and kittens  13
I kinda lean this direction myself.... Remember the punt block against Brenham last year... HUGE and it looked like they'd been working it all year.
Maybe that's true, but it kills me when I see the other team muff a punt snap and we have no one back there to capitalize. He's probably playing it safe. No roughing the punter penalties, and after all, the most important thing is to just get the ball back. Not many high school punters are going to kick it 50 yds and pin you back inside your own 10 yd. line. Except ours!!!
  8. As an unbiased observer I have to point out that the officiating was not as bad as some people on here are saying. There was a couple of questionable calls (both ways) but it did not change the outcome in my opinion.

The interference call in the fourth quarter on WOS was definitely interference. The ball was in the air and the defender made contact, pushed, whatever you want to call it, the receiver. It did look like there should have been one or two seconds left on the clock after the last play.

The worst thing about this whole game was when that official got knocked out and the WOS fans were applauding. That was inexcusable. And it wasn't just one or two people in front of me.
  9. I also predicted FW would blowout WOS.(3 td's) Ooops. My bad. WOS looked light years better than they did in the Dayton scrimmage. One would expect improvement, but they looked like a whole different team! Great game to watch. FW offense was effective as usual. I was really surprised that WOS ran so well on them. It's like FW had no linebackers on the field. Congrats to both teams and coaches. Well done on both sides.

"Looking good" is subjective. To a Barbers Hillonian, that would simply mean; looking better than the person next to you.  ;)
Now why else would we turn out in droves to watch a Dayton game?   ;D ;D ;D
Touchee! There may be nicer cars on the BH side, but when it comes to the teams on the field....there will be no contest. Unless those stripes somehow hypnotize and mezmerize their opponents!

    Epic blowout brewing.

So who is going to blow out who Hawkeye????
I predicted earlier in this thread (somewhere) that FW would win by something like, at least 3 TD's. I couldn't find that prediction due to the 23 pages of banter between you and Gassila. You're right, that was fun to read! I wish I could say FW would be getting blown out, (as most SETX fans wish) but I can't. I think the much larger (and slower  ;D) FW team wins this easy. I also think this game ultimitely helps WOS more than it hurts them. Good luck to both teams tonight and may the game be inury free. I will be there.

haha its sad who goes 6 to 7 hours early for a HS football game that you know your gonna get beat like yall did last year normally they let us buy tickets at the hs for half price before the game they didnt let us cause yall took them all so ppl that it was sold out and yall have like a 20 to 30 minute drive or probably less we have a 1 hour to 2 hour drive at the least
You really don't have a clue what your writting about do you?
Do you even know where Port Neches or Groves are?
Brenham to Aldine - 72 miles
Port Neches to Aldine - 103 miles
Do a tiny bit of research before you write non-sense.

Did you know that each team was given the same allotment of tickets?

Now who has the most fans, while it is fun to be a part of, doesn't win or loose ball games, but to state that Brenham blew out PNG last year (27-21 PNG driving very late to take the lead) is ignorant or idiotic one, not sure which, but Penny could correct me!  ;D

BrenhamBaseball, Did you actually go to the game, or were you one of the ones that thought it was sold out with out actually taking the time to find out the truth and stayed home??
Alot of times the schools have to return the unsold tickets a day before the game so they can be sold at the ticket booths. So no we didnt take all your tickets last year. From what i remember on the Brenham side you could have laid down on the bleachers and still had more than enough room. Don't be so envious of the fan following that PNG has. Also Nederland has a hugh fan following. Why not go start some trash with them as well. Besides I feel your living in the past. This is a new season and anything could happen. Injuries, floods, hurricanes etc That could affect anyones season. If you really want to trash talk then go to your next opponents website and trash talk there. The possibility of PNG and Brenham meeting again is still months away. When that time comes then come on back and toot your little horn !
I was at the game and your right there was a lot of room on the Brenham side. But I seem to recall there being another Brenham team (maybe volleyball?) in a state playoff game of some sort. Some of their fans told me quite a few people were at this "other" event. They seem to have a full house every time we play them.
