Understood. The conversation continued with other participants and took different turns which were not chronicled in the quote you cited. SLC is ranked #3. DV is ranked #4. It is common for the higher ranked teams to "match up" with lower ranked teams in "real time". When teams are ranked "higher", someone, somewhere believes the higher ranked team to be superior (an at least match up) to the lower ranked team. DV has done very well in the last few years which is why they are impressively ranked #4. Dave Campbell's Texas Football believes that only three teams are better than DV. One of the teams that Dave Campbell's Texas Football rates higher than DV is SLC.

Agreed. 2021 doesn't mean anything going into this year either, as it is a new season. The genesis of the debate was whether SLC could "match up" with Duncanville (and later Katy). Duncanville is currently a strong program as is SLC and Katy. The hypothetical between Duncanville and Katy can currently be nothing more than hypothetical. Regardless of who "would win" any of the match ups, there is absolutely no rationale case to be made for Katy or SLC "not holding their own" or "matching up" against any team in the state on any given year (I know that was not your statement but others). Katy and SLC were winning big, long before and during Duncanville current hot streak. And SLC is currently ranked 3 with DV ranked 4. Someone, somewhere thinks SLC is better to some extent.
-
Especially when someone is making a case against Katy and Southlake Carroll football accomplishments. Particularly against a school (DV), that has won a "single" championship in the same competition for 20+ years. I missed the rule about "changing the subject" or "conceding the last word to Dirty_but_Dazzling".

Katy has won multiple ""6A/5A" titles. North Shore/Duncanville/Katy/SLC have competed in "6A/5A". Katy actually has a "head to head record" vs North Shore that indicates that Katy "can" match up. Duncanville does not even deserve to be in this conversation. Duncanville having "playoff appearances" does not place them in the conversation with Katy/SLC/NS who have won multiple State Championships at the highest level in Texas.
-
Agreed. Katy doesnt match up either. Instead of "matching up" they just "pile up state championships" in the same division with Duncanville and NS. Duncanville in particular, has a case full of "match up trophies".
-
Yep, SLC is ranked #3 and DV is ranked #4. Both have recently made it to State Championships. SLC can definitely "match up".
-
Understood. Apparently, "the guys/staffs that rank the 6A football teams" agree with me. How about Westlake? Does Westlake "match up" with Duncanville/Northshore?
-
Every school in the state "might" catch everyone. SLC has been in a 6A State Final as recently as 2020. They match up with anyone.
-
Definitely going to be a "pillow fight" for the ages. I have faith in the legacy and tradition of HD to get them in position for another first round exit.
-
I like HD chances. I am always amazed at the low level of football that comprise HD football districts. Expect another playoff appearance to be added to the historic HD record book.

WOS is the clear favorite.

More colloquialisms? For clarification: "Local intellect(s)" such as yourself but also indicating "others/plural". Your contemporary whom "you" quoted, invoked "dumbass". Do you recall "reading it" before you "quoted it"? It is just a few posts back. Its the one where you were referencing "fart".
-
Impressive addition. I always enjoy when local intellects such as yourself resort to invoking "fart", "dumbass", and other vulgarity into discussions. It definitely strengthens your position. Are you a "Jasper resident/alumni"?
-
Agree about SLC. They dont match up with Duncanville. If Duncanville can win the next 7 State Championships in a row they will catch Southlake in Championships.
-
The next time "terrible programs" come up; I am going to surprise everyone with a new example.
-
Understood, profanity and vulgarity. Well done.
-
Ok, I have a "hang up" on Tarkington as well as every other school that fits a particular topic at any given time. If the subject pulls in "terrible programs", Tarkington, Huntington, WH, etc. can all be useful examples. Let me know if anything I stated was "incorrect".
-
The record you are quoting now indicates exactly what I said. Dont care about "other teams" or "blood sweat and tears", "Most teams beat Tarkington". It is completely settled and undisputable fact.
-
No hatred, just a relevant example for the topic. There is not a single person (including yourself) anywhere on the planet that does not believe "most teams beat Tarkington".
-
Not at all. With some teams (such as Tarkington for example), everyone "has a chance to beat them" and "almost everyone does beat them". By way of comparison, "few have a chance to beat Carthage" but an even smaller "actually beat Carthage". An example of a team somewhere in between would be Silsbee, who "many teams have a chance to beat" and about half of those usually "follow through beating them". In summary, having a chance to beat Tarkington is almost automatic to result in a win. While having a chance to bet Carthage very rarely equates to a win. A good way to view this phenomenon in a more quantifiable method would be to examine the win/loss records over extended period of time such as a "10 year sample".
-
No question they are the favorite in the Region. Floks predicting the WOS demise dont understand the "Jimmies/Joes" concept.
-
Big difference from "having a chance to beat Carthage" and "beating Carthage".

Jasper has outstanding talent in the pipeline. Cant wait to see what happens with the Freshman DE that played 1B on the JV baseball team. He is among the most impressive looking kids I have ever seen. Had a couple of similar in 8th Grade as well.

It has to do with "this year" not being "last year". Teams do not always perform the same from year to year. There have been scenarios where a team "won a State Championship one year" and then "did not win a State Championship the next year". In extreme case, teams that "did not make the playoffs one year" actually "made the playoffs the next year".
