Tekoa Academy is a STEM school. Maybe he decided that wasn't the route he wanted to take. Whatever reason was given shouldn't have been challenged in my view as it's a private charter school, not an ISD one. That reason alone should be good enough. More opportunities and programs
-
Only HF it seems. There has been others, but it does look as if some want to control the flow of talent only to specific schools in the district. They have no problem with kids leaving HF to go to other schools, just when they come back apparently lol.

I would be willing to bet my entire paycheck that if he was a trash player or irrelevant on the scene, no one would say a thing. Just like they didn't challenge the transfer of HFs leading scorer last year because he was an unknown that hadn't played organized basketball before. Now all of a sudden he's relevant to the argument because he turn out to be coachable and athletic. Smh

It is a private charter school. No UIL affiliation at all
-
I can see that as part of the thought process. I just never heard of a kid being denied leaving a private school to go where he is zoned to. I can see frowning upon those who don't live there and transfering in, but not denying a kid who does. UIL should overturn this. That would be telling the parents that their kid can't take advantage of the opportunities at the school they pay taxes to.
-
If a kid has proven he has lived in the district, went to school in the district before, and is coming from a private school to finish high school, would any of you vote against him? That's the real question here folks. I don't know about the previous kids at all or their reasons, but their situations shouldn't be the factor to base a vote on this kid. Based on the facts of his residency, prior attendance in HF school district, and coming from a private school, would any of you vote against him?
-
The only particular that matters is that he is from the district area and coming from a private school where his dad works. What UIL rule has he broken? How is he leaving a private school to go to a school he's zoned to any different from the others that has done the same? Keep in mind his residency wasn't an issue at all my friend so they simply voted against him based on their own feelings and not the facts.
-
Doesn't matter in this last case as he could transfer for whatever reason he wants as he has lived in the district while attending a private school. I can't speak for the others, but one did sit out due to UIL rules so that means the others live or moved into the district. But they did come from another UIL school so yeah that is a little different. The kid from Tekoa isnt in that same category as he is from the HF district and was going to a private charter school where his dad works. He's just going back to finish at HF. What rule has he broken?
-
That's understandable but they laid on a sword with this one. Should have left this one alone in my opinion. It doesn't look good on their part and if the UIL upholds it a precedent will be set that a kid who attends a private school will not be able to transfer to the ISD school they are zoned to and play varsity sports. That will be huge!
-
So is Tekoa my friend. It's a private charter school with no affiliation with UIL. That's what makes this interesting to me because of that very assessment. I've never seen a kid get denied to play varsity at the achoolhes zoned for coming from a private school.
-
I'm going to assume this was actually an attack on the HF basketball program and not this kid. He's just caught in the middle. HF had 3 new players last year, 2 played varsity and with him coming over some folks got upset and think recruiting is going on. But to deny a kid who is legit over your assumptions and anger is silly
-
I would assume the ones we see in here lol! All I know is he was denied due to transfering for athletic purposes not his residency which is what I thought at first and folks in here have been assuming. That's not the case from what I was told. It was due to athletic purposes which makes no since if you agree he has lived in the district and coming from a private school. That's like a kid who is zoned to WB but has been going to Kelly and decides to leave Kelly in High school and go to WB. That's exactly the case here.
-
I don't think it was main factor or even running acrosssome of their minds, but they definitely went on rumors and not facts presented. The optics don't look good and apparently weren't thought about at all. That's what I'm saying
-
One of the two didn't play at BU at all. He just went there. He was basically a park baller who decided to play last year and apparently was coachable.
-
The kid is a Texas top 100 ranked player who averaged 27pts 10 rebs and played against some top UIL schools last year at Tekoa. The only teams from that district that would even be competitive with HF is Huffman and HJ. HF beat Huffman last year in the playoffs without the best player at the school on varsity, he was playing JV due to UIL rules averaging over 30pts a game Lol! So he'll be on varsity this year and Ardoin coming over would make them very hard to beat.
-
The kid that was denied didn't come from BU or any UIL school and he lives in the district. There was no residency challenge and no discrepancies on the PAPF. They voted against him purely on rumors despite letters from prior and current schools stating why he made the switch. This is the information I was given and knowing that Dr. Augustine is an honorable/respectable man and does his do diligence, it would seem that some schools did hand together and vote against this kid. UIL would lose some credibility if it allows the DEC decision to stand. What you have to understand is by those schools voting against this kid, they are calling Dr. Augustine, this kids family, and the administrators from the prior school liars. And from what I've been told his residency was proven as he went to HF elementary school and both parents worked for HF at one point in time. Those who voted against this have some explaining to do. Doesn't matter what happened last year with other players. This kid is a former HF student who lives in the district and was returning to finish his high school there period! I don't know the make-up of the superintendents from the other districts who voted against this, but I do know all those who verified and submitted letters on this kids behalf are African American. Tekoa is an African American owned school, Dr. Augustine is African American, and the family is African American and they were all called liars. I would hope the UIL overturns this for their sake because this can get ugly quick
-
Doesn't matter if the kids live in the district and HF are following UIL rules. They are an open enrollment school and as along as the players who aren't in the district sit out a year, then there's no violation. As far as the kid in question he's from that area and was going where his father worked which is a private charter school, not UIL or ISD affiliated. So him going to HF was perfectly within guidelines. Like I said in a previous comment. It seems as if some folks got together from other schools and decided they were going to vote no regardless of the facts. That's chicken shit and cowardly in my eyes that adults would attempt to hamper and kids career for a better opportunity at their school winning. The kid has every right to go and play where he's zoned too don't you agree?
-
That's the thing, the residency was never in question. I've heard from a good source that his residency was never brought up or questioned that it was solely on the transfer for athletic reasons. Which is crazy if he's a resident of HF coming from a private school and going to HF high school, then it should have never been brought up to the DEC at all and definitely not voted against. Sounds like a coordinated action from some district foes who are running from competition. Remember only 4 teams can move into the playoffs and adding HJ and HF bumps two teams who would normally go to the playoffs out! It also makes the title between 3 teams instead of just two and with Ardoin, HF would have the slight advantage over Huffman the defending champs who lost to HF last year in the first round. They might split like last year with HJ again. They are pretty solid/well coached and return their key guys.
-
I heard they challenge coming for athletic purposes, not his residency. That means they actually voted against a kid who lives in the district who is coming from a private charter school on the reason he left the charter to come to his zoned school. That's just silly and very suspicious honestly
-
Who said that? He lives in Cheeks, that I know.
-
I would like to know as well because if it went to DEC that means H-F ISD and it's superintendent put their reputations on the line and I don't think Dr. Augustine would do that if he didn't have factual evidence to counter the accusation, he's a stand up guy and well respected. That would mean some folks from those districts called him a liar. That's interesting
-
If it was the DEC and he has proof that has lived in the district and was just going to a charter school, then why would the UIL not overturn it on appeals? Seems like a waste of time from some coward and scared schools in the district to me. I'm going see if I can find out what happened. Sounds like some back alley politics went on with that DEC vote. Lol
-
Denied by who? UIL or DEC?
